You guys don't know what laughing gas does?!? I rarely go to the dentist and yet even I know that it's a type of anesthesiatic thing that makes stuff hurt less by making you laugh.

So why's it called laughing gas? Does it make you laugh too? That's what I always thought it did. :eh?:

Yes; laughter releases some endorphins or something that'll help dull not only emotional pain but physical pain as well. Incidentally, does this mean Calisto Yew barely feels pain?

I went to the dentist earlier on today. After inspecting my mouth he says to me "There's some good news and some bad news: I won't be doing your filling today, but I will be removing one of your wisdom teeth". So he injects me with some anaesthetic and proceeds to to remove (more like rip out if you ask me) the wisom tooth in the upper left back part of my jaw. So my jaw now aches from having one of my perfectly good (as far as I could tell) teeth being removed.

And you know what's even worse? I have to go back sometime later in the year to get another one of my wisdom tooth removed! :ack:

It's something to do with food particles being trapped behind the teeth, which could potentially cause an infection. So I guess that they'll have to come out then, as I'd rather not go with the alternative.

That sounds horrible, NinjaMonkey! It's really annoying when you need a filling or teeth pulled out when in all honesty you can't see anything wrong with them.

I went to my orthodontist's today and decided to ask her why my teeth don't seem to get dirty enough after brushing them for only once a week.

Apparently, the "Quality over Quantity" Rule applies.

Also, I got Gold and Silver color bands for my braces. <3

I have a question that maybe someone here can answer for me. (Kinda related, kinda not.)

I got braces... about 5 years ago. I wore them for almost 4, and got them taken off a year ago or so. I was given retainers to wear (you may already know where this is going), and I wore them most of the time, and my teeth were fine. Well, I neglected them the past couple months, and they shifted a bit on the bottom (like two are out of place). If I wear them again (they'll fit and everything, just a bit of pain accompanies them, which is to be expected), will they shift back, eventually? I'll wear them all the time, if that's what it takes, but now that I noticed it it bothers me, and I'm sure someone's done the same thing.

Hmm, since Iv'e never worn retainers or braces, It's hard to say. But I do think that if they've gone out of place, it may be for a while. but really I'm not the kind of person who should be answering this question.

Hmm, I have braces but haven't gotten to the retainer part yet.

I think the best solution would be to see your orthodontist about that.

I agree with the above.
On a different note, I was wondering, has anyone here ever vomited on a dentist before? (I'm not trying to be rude, I'm actually serious!) I went to mine yesterday and he stuck something down my throat (can't remember what) and I couldn't really breathe, so I graced him with the sushi I had had for afternoon tea... and then laughed my head off for the rest of the appointment :godot: . Has anyone else ever done that, or is it just me?

No; I haven't, but I think I might've weird-ed my dentist out.

Whenever she does anything to my teeth, I look at what she's doing through the reflection in her eyes. I didn't even know I was doing it. I just realized how awkward that must've been if she noticed that I spent a couple of hours staring right into her eyes. I hope she was just intent on fixing my teeth for her to notice.

*BUMP*

Hey guys remember me? That boy wonder who magically didn't have to brush his teeth every day? Well it turns out I still don't have to do that but this new dentist I'm seeing is making me do it at least once every two days if I must.

Apparently I have mild gingivitis, which isn't as bad as TV makes it out to be. Periodontis is when the teeth are so decayed they look god-awful ugly, but gingivitis is only when the gums are slightly swollen and completely unnoticable. It also makes the gums more likely to bleed but only when I brush my teeth. So since I haven't been brushing my teeth much, it ended up causing a vicious cycle which makes me even more unwilling to brush my teeth. The dentist was actually surprised that my breath smelled perfectly normal too.

Before you say this is disgusting and that I'm disgusting, keep in mind that not even my orthodontist was able to tell how bad my teeth were, which means it wasn't even so much of a problem in the first place. Hell, the dentist even said that if I continued not brushing my teeth often enough, nothing serious would happen until I became age 30. Which is almost twice as old as I am now.

But yeah, since I'm young and 16, it turns out I can easily remedy this just by brushing my teeth more than once a week.

One more thing to say, I'm getting my braces off soon! I just need to get some Wisdom teeth removed and the gums around my canines untwisted (before I had brace, my canines had this tendency to twist sideways to appear like fangs), after that, it's retainer time and then FREEEEEEDOOOOM!!!

You're still disgusting, and your dentist is obviously a money grabber. Not having you brush your teeth every day means more problems for you which means more trips to the dentist which means he gets paid more.

Oh and gingivitis will probably end up with you getting really bad breath, so even though it's not bothering you, it's going to bother everyone you dare talk to face to face.

I still think you should brush your teeth two times a day...whatever the case may be, if you only need to brush them once a WEEK to be good teeth, why not twice every day to make some excellent teeth? Seems a bit more sensible to me.

I do see your point though.

And thanks for returining this topic, I had forgotten about it...

I don't think a lot of people would be polite anywhere near me. Would you?

Trust me, I've made a lot of enemies and none of them have ever called me out on bad breath even though they've had plenty of oppurtunity to do so.

You need to stop making excuses and start brushing your fucking teeth. Even 5 year olds have more sense than you.

What are you gonna do when it comes to your first job interview and your mouth smells like a dead animal and your pits smell of old cheese? You're really not going to cope in the big scary world out there if you can't even handle personal hygiene.

Though I guess I am looking forward to you failing at real life.

My dentist is pretty cool. He tells jokes while he's checking your teeth or whatever. I used to go to this really mean dentist. Whenever I would make noises when my teeth hurt(while they were operating on them), they would always go "SSSSHH!" really loud. At almost every appointment I've been to I've been told that I have cavities. There were 2 appointments when I didn't have any cavities. What's weird is that one of my sisters has never had a cavity and my other sister has only had 1. When she learned she had a cavity she asked me what it felt like. I told her it hurt.

There was this one time when I was really scared of going to the dentist because one of my fillings had just randomly come out(I think the piece flew onto the carpet at my friend's house and I never thought to pick it up). So for a long time I just had this hole from the bottom of my tooth to the top. I really didn't want to go to the dentist. But when I did I got that particular tooth out and two others(they had to take out the 2 around it to be able to pry it out) What's weird is that both of the molars that had been taken out since that time have grown, but my canine hasn't. Actually, both top canines haven't grown out yet. My other bottom ones have. Is that a bad thing?
I'm scared.

@Dylia
To me you sound like whenever you get laughing gas you get high or whatever. And you sound so crazed about getting laughing gas it's scaring me. In simpler words, you sound like a maniac who wants laughing gas.

Dentists have nothing on orthodontists. I'm perfectly fine with dentists because I remember the horror of braces when I used to have them... Dentists are so much less painful.

Wanna know what's even scarier? Oral surgeons. But apparently I had an EXTREMELY easy time with it O_O

Had all my wisdom teeth PLUS a rotted tooth that I didn't know about taken out all at once... Never had to take a single pain killer.

Yeah I had braces too from 5th grade to 8th grade. I think they messed my gums up though because in some places they look dented up a little :/

Just had a dentist appointment today. No cavities! Although, I passed this room where this girl was getting her cavities fixed. I passed by when they just started putting the shots in her mouth, she cried kind of loud. Well, they gave me 7 little tubes of toothpaste. I'm not sure if I should take that as an insult or not... :yogi:
I have had my upper canines out for a LOOONG time. When my dentist checked out my teeth he said, "Where are those canines?" They looked at x-rays from last year's appointment, and saw that they were far from growing out. They gave me another x-ray and it looked like if I waited a month they would grow. Then they told my mom that I had to see an orthodontist and possibly get spacers.
Aren't spacers like braces in a way? Should I be happy or sad? I really don't know. *sweatdrop*

DENTISTS! D:
Really, I can say, dentists are very bad.. :larry:

Well, at my last visit in October, I was suppose to do trying to NOT flipping out. Actually, I hate dentists, but we hate them all.
After I've lost my two teeth, I screamed a while: "BAD DENTISTS! BAD DENTISTS! BAAAD..." Then my mom stopped me and then I was very... nice. (: Or not. Whatever.

The dentist scared me a lot.. He looks like Hotti, when he was so.. :hotti:
Yey, I know. Dentists are very cruel people. But! It's good for all people..

YOU. LUCKY. DUCK. GRAH.

I've had a cavity almost every dentist appointment I've had! I used to cry when I got shots, but I had so much cavities I got used to the feel, and now I only feel a slight pinch. I don't cry now, I whimper. It feels so weird when the numbness spreads through your mouth. I remember one time after a dentist appointment I put chapstick on, and it felt so weird because it felt like my lips were fat when I put the chapstick on. Aaaand I couldn't tell whether or not I was putting the chapstick on my lips or not.

Had another dentist appointment a few days ago. No cavities, woo hoo! But since I lost one of my molars they're sending me to the orthodontist because they don't want any of my other teeth closing in. Apparently the appointment is next Monday, which I had no idea about until 2 fucking minutes ago. :/
