The Crucible was amazingly well done. I think that was probably Arthur Miller's best work.

Dare I ask .. have you read V FOR VENDETTA, or just seen the movie?

I've read the graphic novel, and own it. The movie probably actually did a better job expressing the points though.

I think that happens with a lot of obscure books that get turned into movies. I bet most people never realized Princess Bride or Stardust were novels.

I do! I wanted to read the Princess Bride.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator was the worst book in the history of children's lit.

Or indeed LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN and FROM HELL. The latter of which was horribly simplified for the movie and is in fact a deeply complex text dealing with all kinds of issues.

Heh, Alan Moore.

Not really - he just doesn't bother with conventions :)

I don't think he rused to care much about Hollywood until a couple of years ago - he's not daft. And he's apparently cool to work with, provided you're not an arse :godot:

I'm divided on it. I dislike the portrayal of women in it immensely and detest the climax with a vengeance, but I do love his examination of Rorschach and generally of how power corrupts (which led to me looking out old issues of The Question among other things).

I'd be amazed if they make a decent movie out of it that doesn't just skim the surface though.

Spandex movies are a different kettle of fish, sadly. I had hope for the genre after X-Men but thus far it's not been fulfilled.

I just wonder why they insist on making movies out of Frank Miller (who I am not a fan of) and Alan Moore (who I am slightly more a fan of) when they could be focusing on comics that are actually, you know, cinematic.

Yeah I have no idea. I do think 300 was a gift for a film, and so would've been Miller's DAREDEVIL, had they actually made his arc into a film rather than the Godawful mess that they made of that paricular foray into Marvel canon.

But there are a bazillion other comics that I would place way up the list ahead of Watchmen, for sure. Including Transmet and The Invisibles (although arguably The Matrix *was* The Invisibles, thinly disguised).

Generally I don't trust Hollywood with comics properties as they usually fuck them up royally and seem unable to treat them with any kind of respect. "They're just funnybooks". *Shrugs*. It's why I can't fault Moore for his attitude to the whole charade.

To be fair, some creators DO have the same attitude. Such as Troy Hickman.

I suspect quite a lot do, privately. Most can't afford not to take the money though, unlike Moore ;)

I love how no one else wanted to question the fact that this string of short sentences does not make logical sense.

"I feel bad for this man and his life's history, therefore his book is garbage!"

Also, I have to admit that while it pains me to read what many of you consider "worst" books, I also love the fact that you all singularly reveal your mental and physical ages with your taste in "bad" and "good" books.

To a greater extent, I at least realize I don't have any major professional competition rising out of this forum.

If my game is to have you form incorrect sentences by using 'capably' not 'capable' then...yeah I guess so?

I'm not commenting on the 'worst books' thing as a bad thing--there are books even I don't enjoy reading--but I always love statements like 'Ulysses is the worst book because it is hard to read' or 'I don't like old writing styles because it confuses my 13 year old txt msg based brain with long sentences' as if those are valid criticisms of literature.
