^^ I wonder how it came to that... maybe lazyness or allergy to vowels or something like that.
The Australian English isn't bad either, but I still prefer the British one.

Well....I speak English mostly. I know Greek, but I'm better at understanding it than speaking and writing.
I'm learning Japanese currently, not too bad at it. :edgy:
And i also know some German, I had to learn it in elementary school.

Over the past four months I've been studying basic Japanese. I'd like to continue, and I might do if I get into Uni, but next year, as part of my Oriental Languages course, we switch to Mandarin.

Poultry XD It's currently my favourite German word, though I'm fond of "Meerschweinchen" too. Literally "little piglet of the sea"- in other words, a guinea pig.

"Eichhörnchen" (squirrel) and "Backenhörnchen" (chipmunk) are quite cool/weird looking words as well.

Well anyway, I'm thankful that I live in Germanland. I always pity those people who have to learn German in school and such. The whole grammar is just kinda shitty and the pronouncing can be a bitch sometimes.
Although, I love all of our umlauts (ü,ä,ö) and ß (ss).

Now that you mention it... Geflügel, what a word. XD
And how are you able to write the ü with an english keyboard? Copy&Paste or is your keyboard a magic one?
"Strumpf" (sock) is - in my opinion - also a funny word... but you can also say "Socke".

And I always have to laugh when someone says the Japanese word "tokidoki", which means "sometimes". :gant:

Oh wow everyone in my Japanese class laughed at that one too the first time we heard it.

Yeah a lot of Japanese words are really funny XD

I think I laughed the hardest at てんいん (Tenin) which means "Clerk" (as in a store clerk), ぺこぺこ (Peko peko) which means "to be really hungry". Whenever the teacher told us to say peko peko during drills, everyone would just say it over and over again.

I like どきどき (doki doki) too. (it's a Japanese onomatopoeia for a heartbeat)

Hmm. Well, naturally I speak Finnish which is my native language (aside from that reason I don't understand why someone would want to know a language that has words like "käkkyrämänty").
Swedish, mostly because we're obliged to study it.
French, which I personally find the most f*ucked-up language ever. :D
Six years worth of Japanese.
Lately I've been studying the basics of Korean. Still suck at it, though.
I guess that's about it. ^^;

Haha, I love Finnish. The words look so weird and every time I try to pronounce a word, I usually fail.
and yes, French is the devil's language.

---------------

Hmmmm, this whole thread reminded me of a story my old teacher told me once. It goes like this:

It was around the time when U.S.A. recently got independent and became their own little country, with its own silly rules. There was a voting going on about which language should be the official language of the United States. There were several languages to select, e.g. German, Spanish, Italian, English etc.
However, most people voted for English.....BUT very very close second was German. If a few more people had voted for German, the people in the U.S.A. would speak German instead of English now.

...no idea if this story is true though. My weird old and sarcastic teacher told us the story, so it could be easily a lie as well.

Italian is the Mafia's language, therefore it's cool.
Meh,to be honest I'm usually not that good at learning any latin-based languages, including Latin.

-------

On another note:
My sister told me that Hebrew is quite easy to learn, since it only has like three tenses. The only letdown is that you have to learn new letters and to write from right to left.

It may be cool, but it's bloody hard; there are pronouns but nobody ever uses them so it's really easy to get mixed up.

Maybe I should just learn Hebrew then? Although the whole right to left concept sounds pretty tricky.

Get more used to saying "onaka ga tsuita/tsukimashita" instead of "peko peko". That's the proper way of saying you're hungry.

My native language is Spanish, of course, and I also speak English. My first school had it as a subject, but I took 3 years of private lessons and now I've transferred to a bilingual school. I also know a bit of French, but I quit the class as soon as I was permitted to.

I never spell the words correct, my teacher can't figure out which words are capitalized, and i can't pronounce them.

Yes, I'm Chinese. Problem when learning Chinese, the way you say it means all sort of things. Ex: Chicken washing clothes= washing machine. I actually thought it meant that, er, it was the washing machine.

Other than English (which is my main language of course), I know French (we are taught it at school of course).

However, since my grades for it sucked, I'm not really that 'good' at it. Same goes for speaking French (or writing it). But I do know thew language (and understand most of the simplest words of basic French).
