6 hours!
You know, it's really only Christmas Eve, which I don't really like at all in retrospect. I find that Christmas Eve is the longest 24 hours of the year. Grr...

While I do love x-mas, imho, the older you get, the 'excitement' of opening those present's and stuffing your face full of sweets drop a little. But it's still a interesting season to celebrate :godot:.

Over here in Scotland, it's 25 hours to x-mas. Is it only me that feels that x-mas eve is the longest day of the year?

Andrew McPhee and Justis-Nah, I love Christmas Eve. It's still part of Christmas, and you still get presents, and it's so close to Christmas Day. Anyway, I'm mad, I like getting ready for Christmas more than the actual thing. :godot:

I'd visit family members that I see once a year on Christmas Eve, and they give me presents. And so do the people I won't see on Christmas Day. XD That's how I get my presents, the most important part of Christmas.

Happy days, my friends! Happy days, indeed! For today marks the eve of such an important date in our lives, Christmas! The days of which we lavish our cohorts with expensive gifts to show we care for our closest and dearest friends through the only important way in our lives! The days of which all our appreciation is in the form of a consumerist machine! Who else shows my support in such a beautiful holiday?

I can't say I agree with the consumerist machine. In fact this year, I made a concerted effort to be really really stingy.

I'm more interested in the bonding aspect, since Christmas is always a perfect time to get together with family. Not that all fussed with this so called consumerist machine, even if it is how most families bond nowadays.

Totally agree with you, Harry Miste. I despise the comsumerist aspect with a passion, but I enjoy giving and receiving gifts in my family. I don't see my family members often and so I enjoy this opportunity to show them my appreciation with small gifits.

I love the consumerist part of Christmas, it'd just be some stupid religious holiday without it. XD

I take the third stance.

I'm not religious, I hate religion. I don't like the money and presents side. I like it as an international day of peace and good tidings, of comfort and family values.

You aren't left with a silly religious holiday, you're left with a great feelgood day.

Of course! You are not alone my friend. Who needs all that spiritual mumbo-jumbo? Useless antiquities. We've already killed God; why should we pretend we're wiping the blood off our clothes and blades by worshipping him shallowly through rituals like a traditional Christmas? Spiritual matters are for the weak and poor!

I subscribe to your newsletter, good sir, except for the part about hating religion. Not a big fan of the presents, but I still stand by having at as a feelgood day.

You will never sever the soul from the material world in which it is confused, and so can never return to the world of forms and the form of the good to which Plato says we all aspire.

I agree fully with the consumerist aspect of Christmas just because it can get people to spend and if it keeps capitalism alive even just a small while longer, the better.

Christmas is celebrated majorly as a religious holiday by all sects of Christianity. By definition, it is a religious holiday and calling it "silly" seems more than a little disrespectful. :lana:

I don't go to church, but I still celebrate it as a religious and traditional festival (my kind of Christianity doesn't require a church). I just love all the folklore and traditions that surround Christmas and I'm sooooo EXCITED that it's CHRISTMAS EVE TODAY!!!!! <3 <3 <3

Yea, I was simply using the tone set by the previous poster. I was countering his point. I was brought up a Catholic after all.
I just think there is now more to Christmas now than a mere religious event or commercial holiday. It's become a benchmark for goodwill.

Not going into it too much, I'm not one to try and convert people away. I just prefer to stay away and stick to the things we know are true rather than repetitively idolise and put all our faith in a potentially fictitious concept.
Maybe hate was too strong a word. I've just never needed it. I hate those who try to convince me otherwise though. Religion for me is simply a pointless endeavour, but you're of course free to disagree.

It's Christmas Eve! Is everyone ready?

This year i'm actually more excited about Christmas itself than the presents. ^^;; That's probably because I haven't asked for anything expensive this year - just a few CDs. I love Christmas because of the atmosphere when sitting around opening presents, the tv in the background, all that gorgeous food cooking in the kitchen...That sounds so cliché, and I do enjoy the presents of course, but the general feelgood factor of Christmas is what I love. :)
