[laughs] Ah, the fickleness of fashion. What's in one month is out the next. It might just be because of the way I was raised and the kinds of things I took interest in, but I never saw much point in shopping for new outfits unless my old ones are beaten up, too small on me, or just uncomfortable. In a way, fashion can be a way of showing off how much money you have--a form of elitism. If you're always wearing the latest fashion, chances are that you have a fair amount of disposable income. On the other end of the spectrum, people who need more money just to live a decent life are unlikely to keep up with fashion. I suppose that's one reason why I endorse the idea of school uniforms; it prevents discrimination based on what students wear to class--not to mention it makes the way students dress much less of a distraction for students who can't keep their eyes where they belong.

You do realize that what's "in" is never very different than what it was last time, there are few polar extremes that necessitate new purchases, nobody honestly gives a shit about it anyways and a lot of good looking things will be good looking for a very long time. I am pretty sure there actually is no "in" at all even (let alone a universal "in"), unless we're going by 90's pop culture cartoon worlds, in which case yes, fashionable people wear all kinds of wacky costumes with elaborate themes that change weekly and spend most of their paychecks up-keeping this bizarre hobby.

It appears I stand corrected, then.

One thing I have noticed that I don't think is misrepresented, though, is how big the fashion industry is. The mall that I use for my shopping needs (which are few), for example, has a veritable army of clothing stores. I don't know the exact numbers, but I'm guessing at least 75% of all the stores there are clothing stores of some sort. To be blunt, I find it disturbing. A shirt is a shirt; does it really matter where I got it?

I find the cheap, mass-manufactured non-brand shirts to be most comfortable.

@johnny: mm, i like it, but you need some better fitting jeans, or pants. uniqlo has them, and i know how much you love them~ you have serious potential, and you're attractive, so i feel like if you got a few pairs of nice skinny or slim-fit jeans (dark wash or raw denim) or pants (go for thicker material; cotton doesn't make for the best pants) that'd really tie your look together.

@lolita kitten: i love your boots (what brand are they?) but i'm not big on lolita.

@polkadot: great dress! the jacket looks reallly excellent too, very cute

@luigi: once you start shopping seriously, you will find that one brand is very different from the next. although it's not always immediately distinguishable, the differences are there, and people notice them.

I have yet to see said differences. Then again, I never bother with brand names to begin with. I couldn't tell you the brand of at least 90% of the stuff I wear without looking at the label.

I love fashion, however it can be tough for me in the morning to see what top goes with what pair of pants. And the fact I go to a comic book school, you don't tend to be surrounded by a fashionable crowd.

But usually, the simplest outfits I throw on in the morning, is a tank top, jeans, and a zip-up hoodie.

Everything has to match though. If it's a blue or pink top, I wear it with a brown hoodie. If it's white, or red, etc., I'll wear it with a black hoodie. And a black top I'll wear with a red one. If the shirt has a pattern, the jacket will be a solid color. And visa-versa.

With the cold weather coming up, I love wearing cute sweaters and blouses.

These are just some of the things you'd probably see me wear
Spoiler:
Image

My roommate complains I take too long getting ready in the morning for not deciding what to wear since she can get ready in 5 mins. Meanwhile her wardrobe consists of the same few things she mixes together. She'll just run out in a large Invader Zim t-shirt with black elastic waistband pants that rise all the way up to the middle of her waist to the point of being able to see her white socks while she walks. D: She also doesn't believe in wearing makeup so...I'm not one to judge. Although, once in awhile she will go into Charlotte Russe with me, but always picks up the tops that are black and "gothic looking" :/

My favorite stores are:
Mandee's,
BeBe (the sale rack since they can be so expensive D:),
Guess? (also sale rack..)
Charlotte Russe (the prices they have there are wonderful<333)
DEB
Express
Dots (also wonderful prices)
Forever 21

I also tend to wear black a lot, but I've decided to mix up my wardrobe this year with some more colors. Unfortunately, dark colors do seem to look better on me than bright ones.

My position: better that her socks are visible than her underwear. I never approved of "low-cut" pants (I think that's what they're called).

One brand is very different from another. I have sensitive skin and I do notice a significant difference between one brand to another. They could all be 100% cotton, but after a few washes - you could tell some (often more expensive) brands hold the colours, texture, softness, etc. better than other (often cheaper) brands.

On a side note. Johnny has really long sexy torso. Totally jealous.

My general style is a combination of stuff I got from Hot Topic, stuff I got from thrift stores, and stuff I got from Ross.

Sometimes I get clothes elsewhere, too.

Also, skinny jeans suck. They make my butt look big. ;_;

@lyss: your roomate is dumb, and i like your style. the boots don't really do it for me, but everything else looks great. also, what do you know, i used to wear black a lot too but recently i've been branching out into more colors

@anna: thrift stores are great, ross can be okay, hot topic makes me a sad fashionista. also, skinny jeans are great; they're supposed to make your butt look bigger. they're also meant to be worn with tops that go down a little farther than your hips, so if you're wearing a longer top you should be fine.

anywho, this is what i wore yesterday:

The thing is, I already have very wide hips. So skinny jeans just make me look fat.

I like looking at fashion. XD I'm not really big on wearing anything fashionable for myself. I usually don't like shopping for clothes so my mom always tries to get me stuff but I usually like only half of it. -_-"

I like anything comfortable. I usually wear jeans or some comfortable black pants. Lately I've been buying t-shirts from Hot Topic because a lot of them have anime or movies that I'm into on them. Most of my regular shirts are colorful, but kind of plain besides that. I have a lot of polo shirts in my closet because last year we were only allowed to wear collared shirts at school... :payne: I don't like it when shirts are too short or pants are cut too low.

Lately I've been kind of desiring to develop my own style, but lack of motivation and my usual dislike for clothing stores don't help much. >_>

I don't think all people like fashion out of a sense of elitism. I think it's also a lot about self expression, finding a look that compliments you and represents your personal identity. I'd even hazard that most people get into fashion for that reason; to better express themselves.

That said, I'm too broke to express myself with fashion. It's literally so bad, I have to wear clothes until they are falling off me. Aside from the odd Christmas shirt, I haven't really had a chance to buy clothes for five years. All of my stuff is from high school... it's kind of embarrassing, really. It doesn't really represent what I'm about or what my interests are, any more.

This thread got Justice stuck in my head again. (It was the video with the Tshirts.)

Hahaha, well I like uniforms too but not really for the same reason. Growing up, I wore a uniform to school every single day. From pre-school until HS. Then College came and BOOM, you need to be in civilian every single day. My closet was pretty shocked since I have a very small collection of clothes due to my scholastic upbringing. I only needed casual clothes when I either got home or if we had to go out, but never for school. So yeah, now my mom and I now go shopping every week D:
It's really tiresome going around the mall. I mean-- that's my mom's thing, not mine.

And now for the topic. I don't really have a great range of stores that I go to. Most of my stuff are from Petite Monde, Get Laud!, Unica Hija, Liz Claiborne, Zara or Mango and all of those are stuff my mom buys me. The non-branded ones are just random things that catch my eye. I never really look for brands, it's just "Oh. That looks cute. *grabs and buys*"

Fashion is more of an irritation to me more then anything. I wear school uniform from Monday to Friday (except for holidays, of course) and then rarely change from a long-sleeved shirt; grey/black trousers; possibly a hoodie - much to the disdain of my sister. I don't have a lot more to say on the subject; my unfamiliarity with fashion is a little bit of a limiter in this regard.

Why take the easy way out, and just get rid of the factor, and instead teach your kids to not be bullying little shits? Kids are jerks. They tease kids based on their weight, looks, hair color/cut/style, or anything. Simply putting someone in a uniform won't change that.

And, if girls dressing slutty is a problem, just make a stricter dress code.
