I tend to define myself neither by my ethnic identity nor my gender identity. If someone asked me who I was, "A Bosnian girl" would be too inspecific, "Sara" would be too specific. I tend to define myself moreso by my social identity-- the way I was raised and how people percieve me.
It's not as though I don't identify with my ethnicity or my gender-- I do, but it's not important to me. I doubt I'd be any different if I were a man or if I were french instead. The factors do impact me but it isn't defining.
The way I was raised define who I am right now. My community and friends define me. If someone knew my friends, they could tell a lot about me. Ethnicity and gender rely too much on stereotypes to define me, but my community can speak a lot for me.
