I am sorry. I know this is a tad bit off-topic, but...someone here thinks the Harry Potter books are...good.

Really.

And that the last book was better than the first.

Excuse me?

Even though it goes all

"WHEREDID HORCRUX GOOO?"
"O. FORGOT TO MENCHIN, CURSED FIRE KEEL HORCRUX TO."
"CELBRATE!"

and then later,

"I IN WORLD WITH CLOWD...OHAI, DUMBLEDORE. YOU DEAD, NO?"
"YES. YOU NOT THO."
"WAI?"
"LOVVVEEEE."
"OWAIT. I THOT BCUZ HORCRUX I DIE FOR HOOMANTY?"
"NO. LUUZ FANBASE IF DO THAT. YOO ALAIVE."
"O."

I'm sorry if I'm messing up details. I do believe I started to fall asleep near the end?

In any case. I do not like the Harry Potter series, regardless of which they are better than the Twilight series or not. My favorite book was HP3, and that was because...

wait for it...

it described food in it. No, seriously. I had an obsession when I was younger with books that described food.

More on-topic, hey, it amuses many in its demographic, okay?

And I personally believe that Pattison was a bad choice for the movie. He will always be Cedric to everyone. And Cedric/Bella=nogo.

Harry Potter got very....peculiar in its last stages, but it far outdoes Twilight. The characters (for the most part) were well thought out and flawed by the author, the story was far more interesting and thorough, and (as Lolita Kitten as said) tons of effort was put into them.

I find it very unfair. I slave away for months just to perfect a literature class assignment, and all I get is an A in the class. This woman spends three months cooking up a tedious romance novel for the teenage demographic, and gets praised by the teenybopper masses forever. Many other professional writers with tons of talent spend most of their lives writing amazing works, and they don't get a quarter of the acclaim she gets.

It just seems so unfair to me in retrospect.

It has a lot to do with the rabid 12 year old fangirls who don't even read good books and wouldn't even know what they looked like if someone shoved one in their face and screamed at them that it was a wonderful book. Erm yeah it has pretty much everything to do with that....

My friend showed me some pretty hilarious stuff on Livejournal that amused me more than the books. I forgot to bookmark them, though :(

Wow, I'm amazed and surprised that most of the people here don't like the Twilight series. The girls at my school... Let's just say they used to be these punky rocker girls, now they're "OMFG IM GONNA RAEP EDWAAAAAAAAARD" "ILL HOLD DOWN BELLA WHILE YOU STRANGLE HER SO YOU CAN RAEP EDWAAAAAAAAAARD!" "LET'S SHARE THE EDWAAAARD LUUUV BY POORLY VANDALIZING THE SCHOOL WITH SUNSCREEN!" *facepalm* And the leader of that group of the mouth foaming masses used to be my best friend. Used to be.

D8 The only thing worse is that, because I dress lolita, I GET LUMPED IN WITH THEM SOMEHOW!
Teachers reccomend them left and right. Our librarian always said. "You know, you look like you'd like Twilight! :D :D"
Twilight is an insult to vampire literature. SERIOUSLY. Vlad the Impaler is probobly weeping in his casket right now, for being an inspiration to vampires, which means, an inspiration on Meyer for Twishit.
Twilightsucks.com is fun to got too. The hate mail they get is even better. "ZOMG, LIEK U DO NOT LIEK LUBU RAPEU EDWARD SO LIEK EO DIE BECAUSE OMFG EDWARDISHOTANDYOURJUSTJEALOUS!!!!111ONE!!"

Quote:
No he's not. I'll always think 'Gawsh, you died in HP4 HAHAHA'.

Holy crap I agree. Everyone is always like "HE BEAT HARRY IN HP4, AND HE WILL BEAT HARRY IN THE BOX OFFICE"

D: Voldy killed Cedric, and Voldy will beat him in the box office. (SINCE THE NEXT MOVIE CENTERS KINDA AROUND VOLDERS, DONTCHA KNOW!?)

bibliomaniac- Well, Harry Potter is something that makes SENSE to like. Its a pretty decent book plot wise. I just tend to ignore the weird parts and skip right to Snapey and Lucius goodness 8D. If you didn't like the series, why did you read all of the books?
I still like the 6th book the best, and I don't care what ANYONE says.

...
Its a pretty decent book plot wise.
Except for everyone knew what would happen before it happened. People like it because it was the stuffy father of modern YA fantasy. I appreciate that. It's just JKR took seven books to a) say what essentially could have been said in, say, four b) killed too many people to keep the intrigue c) made the fifth and sixth especially only lead up to the seventh, which essentially went camp-attack-setuptent-final battle and d) made the much waited for and anticipated and predicted ending rather anticlimactic.

I just tend to ignore the weird parts and skip right to Snapey and Lucius goodness 8D.
Wellthen, how much did you read? 0-0 The seventh has few of both.

If you didn't like the series, why did you read all of the books?
Except for some series that lose my interest in a fantastic way (read: books like Pendragon and the Warriors), I like to follow things through. This is also why I'm reading the next Twilight book. Plus, I hoped for improvement after it all went downhill when Harry went beyond angsty (around 5th.)

I still like the 6th book the best, and I don't care what ANYONE says.
She killed Dumbley and made them sail through a lake of spiritual goo, and for that I shall never forgive her for that particular book. But believe what you want.

Look, I'm not saying it isn't better than Twilight's premise, I'm just saying that the extreme fanbase with "ITCHANGED THE WAY I LOOK AT READING" and "I LUBB HARRY" and so forth is somewhat unfounded based on some things in the book. Just like Twilight.

I do, however, like Dobby. He's adorable, loves socks, makes Harry-centric ornaments, and has large ears. What more could one want?

One thing that I think made Harry Potter really lovable was the characters. Twilight doesn't really have that aspect. There really are only a few to like. Bella's all whiny, Edward's all whiny, hell, most of them are like that. So yeah.

I'd rather have a bunch of fantards screaming "ZOMG HARRY DRACO FOREVERR", than 12 year old girls SCREAMING, about how they want to rape Edward. =/

I actually read all of the books, just, when I went to re-read them, I'd just skip to the juicy stuff.

And, HP intelligent fanbase, vastly outnumbers the intelligent Twilight fanbase.

Most of the Twilight fans are rabid 12 year old fangirls who are crazy. Harry Potter fans tend to be a lot more sane and intelligent. I just found that towards the end, quite a bit of the book wasn't extremely necessary (Like in the 7th, the whole camping parts. That was just really dragged out), which is why I don't consider them very good books. The writing just wasn't up to par in my opinion.

I think that one of the things that gives Harry Potter a lot of fans, too, is that they contain well planned out characters with quite a bit of depth. Twilight does not have that. Seriously. The main characters are all angsty (I'll admit, Harry got rather annyoing), and most of them don't have too many redeeming qualities (Beauty is NOT a redeeming quality). So yeah...

Yeah, but, Bella's reason to be angsty? "ZOMG EDWARD DOES NOT LUUUBU ME! D: D: EDWAAARRD"

Harry has a bloodthirsty, power-hungry wizard and his minions after him and his friends. And, everyone around him is dying. D: So yeah.

Harry Angst is more reasonable then Twilight angst.

Teehee, that kinda looks like "Edward, I shot, and you're just jealous." Haha.

Bella is a clumsy, obsessive angsty little bitch. The said girls have been labeling people as Twilight characters. When I heard,
"Ehmagodd, Mina's SO TOTALLEH BELLA!"
"Ehmagod, I totalleh agree wit' you! We should, like, totalleh go tell her that!"
"Like, yeah!"

I was insulted . :sadshoe: I hope this Twilight phase ends soon... Hell, even some of the guys read it and they claw the girls' eyes out trying to borrow them. It's sad, really.

Twilight is no Harry Potter. =/ Harry Potter was a piece of ground breaking literature. Even if you didn't like them ALL, the books in GENERAL where good. Twilight is just a phase. Like the Eragorn or whatever the heck it is phase.

I've never seen the movie, and I don't plan on it.

Speaking of movies, I'm actually looking forward to the Twilight movie. I think that the characters will work well (They don't have much depth to them anyways), and it will probably place a large emphasis on the actual plot of the story and not 400 pages hours about teenage "love"

Lol at leaked spoilers. I'm SO looking forward to this book XD Rofl.

Let me start from the beginning:

I'm a man. My sister kept going on about this book, and saying I should read it, I don't know why but she kept on pushing me to read it, I have read Harry Potter, and quite like it, and my sister was saying it's just like that I wasn't really bothered, I looked it up on the internet, and to me it just seemed like some unimaginative romance story for uneducated teenagers. (No offence to fans, it's just what I thought. :D) I only read up to where she is shopping with her friends in town, the thing about it is, I'm like why is this guy perfect? And he is like Superman? It just seems like some of the stuff happens just for the hell of it, and the way she ALWAYS mentions how PERFECT he is, I'm sorry but that just really annoyed me, I GOT IT THE FIRST TIME, he's perfect. Why did she go on about it. There was no point in it, it didn't make any sense...

That's what everybody's wondering. ._. I read it when I was in the hospital, when I had nothing else to reasd so I just picked it up to see what the hype was all about. I was never the same after that traumatic experience. It's like a bad fanfiction. I mean, I've seen better stuff on FF.net.

By the way, if anyone wants an actually good fantasy romance where one of the couple is dead (well, sort of) and the male lead is called Edward (really Ned, but Edward is the most common name that can abbreviated to that) you should watch Pushing Daisies.

I get the feeling this mania for the books is an American thing. No-one I know has mentioned them.

Well, hope for Anti's is here~! Twilight is set to come out on the 12th of December. Which, is when the highly anticipated remake of the classic 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' comes out, and it stars Keanu Reeves. The movie will fail 8D critics wise and box office wise.

Yeah, it's more of a U. S. A/Canada thing.

And for anyone who cares.

Spoiler: Breaking Dawn. You have been warned.
So essentially Edward and Bella get married, fuck like rabbits, Bella gets knocked up and has some mutant baby inside of her that's killing her. So switch over to Jacob's point of view and HE'S the one to suggest having her get some blood for her mutanthalf vampire baby thing. What's up with that, how stupid can they get. It's also revealed that vampires have 25 chromosomes. HOW DID BELLA AND EDWARD REPRODUCE, THEN! GAH. It doesn't make sense. At all. Plus, Edward's been to med school twice and couldn't tell that Bella was pregnant, even with her rapid development due to her mutant baby. Oh yeah, Jacob separates from the pack and is joined by Leah and Seth because Sam wants to kill Bella and her mutant baby and all that jazz. So that's all I've read up to and there is still like another 500 pages that have been hard to get access to because people on the internet are mean. Yeah. I dunno. Anyways, as a summary of what I've read, the Volturi have some crap to do with it and Bella names her mutant baby Reneesme, Nessie for short. Jacob goes all pedo and imprints on Nessie (WTF?) and it's all happy ever after. Except Rosalie's not in the epilogue and everyone is scared that she may have died because she's pretty awesome, we must admit.

Bella also begs Edward for sex. He practically killed himself over the fact that he gave her some bruises and had to tear up a bunch of pillows to control himself. Lulz. Anyways, she begs him and eventually he gives in and they break the bed. Yeah. So every thing's all perfect with their vamp sex, even though Bella's a virgin, she claims that it was amazing and that he didn't hurt her at all. Nice try. Edward's perfect, he's got to be bigger than that. Not to mention that he's like stone. He's hard no matter what. Plus, his dick is sparkly. Yay <3

AHA, Twilight. XD Twilight, Twilight, Twilight.

I have only read the first book...that was a few months ago. When I was at a bookstore, I thought "Hey, let's get the second one!" Then I found The Host...and put New Moon away. Honestly, I found The Host to be MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than Twilight. I'm not even a gushing fangirl of either...though I will say, that there is MUCH less romance in The Host. I was all thankful for that.

You know what really annoys me, though? ALL the Twilight "pieces of flare" on Facebook. XDDDDD If you just browse, you'll average one per page (1:15), sometimes more. >.> I don't get it...

And, you know, I had to sit at lunch with a girl who was a rabbid romance whore because she was too creepy to find a boyfriend. O_O Hearing her talk about Twilight and David Cook drove me mad...

Bwahaha. I think I'll go and spoil all the Twitards on my contact list. I'll count how many people cry.
