one of you guys must be a bassist here

Okay so as a "we're a musical collective family" gift, when my bassist gets back from France next month to record with me, I am going to surprise him with a new bass because I love him very much.

For the classically trained and very funky bassist with a great love for his instrument, what do you suppose he might appreciate more in both the playability category and the "nice stylin instrument dude" category, because he is using a generic fender ripoff at the moment and I can't bear the thought of him not owning an instrument he can be proud of. I have two choices.

a Music Man Stingray:

or

a Fender Jazz Bass

As far as I'm aware they're both classics in the bass department and I have access to purchase one of them.

I purchased the Music Man Stingray. I know that a lot of guys like sunbursts or crazy colors or just black or white, but I've always been really fond of the Natural appearance. I just think there's a lot of personality that goes into the simplicity of it. Not only that, but it's also relatively unpopular appearance-wise. It looks like...

I do hope he likes.

ermmm..i started piano when i was kindi and i'm still doing it? (yeah, so i'm young. go away -.-) FAR OUT I STARTED IN KINDI. wow. anyways. does anyone have musicianship exam remembery tippy things for italian terms~? :payne: WHY DOES EVERYONE DO THEORY TT-TT i'm kind of pissed off, cos piano is so natural to me it is not FUNNY. i learnt music instead of mandirin TT_TT being totally completely modest, i'm so damn good. i danged wish i did guitar or something...i'm so crappy right now.

i used to do oboeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...cos i was so "good" my teacher let me do grade 3 exam and then i QUIT. that was ages ago...actually, i was having a lesson and an angry mother barged in and said "I HAVE PAID FOR MY SONS LESSONS BUT HE HAS HAD NONE!" and they had a verbal fight, VERBAL, and then my teacher got into her car and then the mother stood in front of the car. xD and then my dad came to pick me up and we drove the hell off, and she stopped teaching. hahah. <3

apparently i sing well. :godot: see kids, listening to songs in a language you don't konw over and over again is good for you!

as for drums... :redd: no lessons for drums but. just..good.

TO ANSWER THE BASSIST QUESTION BECAUSE I R BASSIST:

Um...that Jazz Bass looks quite fuckable |D go with it. Though if he wants a great sound with a great set of pickups, see if you can't find a long neck Squire. I do love my Yori, he always gives me great sound. And the strings for it never ever die ever.

Oh, looks like I'm too late, sorry! But next time, a) REAL rock stars play on a five string. Nuff said. Drop D tuning is becoming all too popular, and that extra low string really comes in handy. B) long necks rule imo kthnx. Yet again its all on preference. If you are crazy with your fingers, shorter frets are the way to go. But if you want a stronger and MOAR BASS sound, long frets will do you well. Jawsy prefers long necks, because I'm pretty damn tall and have obnoxiously long limbs. My fingers are womanly though lol so I have to train extra hard to keep up with the pros. But there's something about the length of the strings on a long neck that just make it sound more full to me.

Okay, my opinion, it has been spoken. The one you chose isn't bad at all.

Heh, maybe I should take pictures of the instruments my band uses, they're all so nice and pretty~

ORPHEUS is being a big ol bitch though. Looks like we gotta replace the bridge on it since Kazu plays the hell out of it and its all worn down. And its our newest guitar next to Edward. And I don't know how much that's gonna cost since like...its never happened before. Just hope it doesn't cost me up my ass, cuz I need that money to travel to out of state gigs, DAMN IT.
