Ah me too, I'm too much of a perfectionist. I'm always correcting people's french.

@ Justis You did the translation well. But UP's usage of the present tense when he said "les gens parlent trop vites" is correct iirc. (Though yours is correct as well, but if it was, he would have to have written the entire paragraph in the past tense)

Yeah, it's a bad habit of mine. My friends always get really pissed off when I'm correcting their missing auxiliaries/genders/adjective endings and such while they're trying to write XD

"Trop" is 'too', not very (EX: 'Cette tasse de thé est trop douce.') Very is 'tres'. and parlent is actually fine considering he's using it as a general statement for the people of France.

And dear god, it annoys the shit out of me when people overabuse 'moi' in French sentences.

Sandwich knows his french. Ugghhhh I can't stand that, especially because when you're actually speaking, you don't use "moi" that often. .__.

No, as far as I'm aware, they still do. I wouldn't have said spoke were I using english. I guess I could have used l'imparfait and said "Les gens parlaient trop vite", as in the people were speaking too fast for me.

And to those saying they wish to correct me, please do. In French class we learned very narrow topics, and so outside of that I make it up by botching it together with no idea of whether I'm being gramatically correct. It may not be elegant, but it does the job. Usually.
I am keen to learn.

Yeah, I suppose that's what I meant. I was going by the fact that you were using the past tense when you started your story, and I was expecting the story to be in past tense the whole time, though in retrospect both work.

Well I'm not perfect, but here's what I think would be correct.

That's what I could correct, but I'm not a native french speak and I am still taking secondary level french, so I apologise if I have made any mistakes in correcting you. :>

(some vocab I wasn't sure with-- such as the correct word for golf club. I'm not sure if un club de golfe is the correct phrase)

I agree with most of those. I think I was right to use college, because it was high school. We were always taught to use college, but with some accents I can't do on here without trenching through the symbols.

And I'm pretty sure club de golf is right. They definitely use the words club and golf, so it would make sense. I may have made up the e though XD.

And I don't know why I added the accent on the a when it's a form of avoir. But thanks, the rest makes sense to me. It's just the little additions that take it to the next level.

Most of that seems fine :edgy: Personally I'd have said "mais c'est très difficile de comprendre" though. Also in the last sentence, the imperfect isn't really needed because you're describing a single event in the past, rather than something that used to happen regularly.

Also joining the French speakers, though I'm moreso on the waiting list in a sense. Taking it at school right now, but the pacing is really slow because the class is huge and there's a speaking test every other week.

I also somewhat know Hakata-ben, which I was kinda forced to pick up since I'm in Fukuoka. :V

Anyway, I really, really, really adore languages!
My native language is German and I take English in school for about seven years. For 3 years I also started learning french... which is a pity. -.- For example, in French it's "La table", so it's feminine. But in German you say "Der Tisch", which is masculine. But I got used to it.
Then I take Japanese lessons in Volkshochschule (Google says it's called Adult Education Center in English-speaking countrys... but in Germany non-adult people can go there too) for one and a half year, but I only have one lesson per week and the recesses between two courses are waaaay too long.
Next year I can choose either Spanish or Italian, but I think I'll take Spanish. (With that, I may stop going to physics!!!)

And some day I'll learn another language... like Swedish or something.

Personally, I would choose either Italian, Portuguese or Spanish. But must be because they are similar to Spanish, so they seem easy to me XP
In your case, maybe German? Since English is a Germanic language. No idea.

I originally felt that way- but if you give German a chance, you might love it. One warning though, it has VERY strict grammar rules. Italian, French and Spanish are all romance languages, which is kind of a benefit- since if you speak Italian, you'll probably be able to understand a bit of Spanish too.

I'd suggest taking classes if available, since you'll level up much faster. If not, then you'll have to work ten times as much as the next guy if you wanna get good at learning it and NOT just end up thinking you're the shit because you picked up some phrases from anime like "omae wa mou shindeiru" or something.

I speak Dutch (en ik ben geloof ik een van de weinigen hier) and English. They also teach me French and German in school but I really, really hate that. Especially grammar. I can speak little bits of German but absolutely no French.

I hate French.

Waarom kan iedereen niet gewoon Engels leren. Of Nederlands, nog beter.
