My fears...

Spiders, bees and wasps: I'm allergic... I can die if one of those bite(for the spiders) or sting me..

Chickens: You know, in some od the Zelda games, if you attack a chicken, they attack you back? Well, I don't even attack them first but they attack me, I don't know why...

Playing a water level in a video game: I don't know why, but I HATE playing a water level in a video game. I always had... It's to the point that if I can continue the game without doing this level, I will continue the game instead of trying it. If I can't I'll wait for my friend to do it for me... :payne:

I'm not really afraid of spiders... I just don't like those huge ones. There's nothing worse than having one of those coming down from the walls and suddenly seeing one sitting on your right shoulder. *shudders*

I'm afraid of heights... but I am perfectly capable to climb a tree or cross a huge, damaged bridge when I am tied to a rope or such thing (for example at a climbing park/ rock climbing school or whatever you call it). Guess I am actually more afraid of falling than the height itself, heh.

I'm afraid of letting down the people I love... but then again, who isn't?

I'm afraid of making wrong decisions in my life... I get so worried about the simplest things in life, haha.

I'm afraid of... changes. I really don't like when things change e.g. moving to a new city, finishing school or when a person I knew is no longer.

Oh and I'm absolutely not afraid of murderers, thieves, rapists or anything. So yeah, if a thief happens to break into our apartment, I pretty much would get a knife or anything else dangerous and attack that fucking bastard.

Insects/Bugs/Spiders/Etc - I freak out when I see them. Tiny ones that I can instantly kill, fine. But recently, I turned around on the couch and there was this grasshopper right in front of my nose! I jumped and screamed (mouth closed! Always with my mouth closed, I don't want those bastards jumping in!) and my mom got rid of it. I've hated bugs for years - according to my mom, her friend's son put a ladybug onto my arm when I was a very small child and I freaked out. I dimly remember .... but also repress it.

Elevators - I hate it when they get stuck. And I hate the slowness. Or the jerkiness when they stop. And that weird feeling in my stomach. I remember years ago that I went on a glass elevator that was pretty fast once, I didn't like it .... although I have been trying to get better at it. Elevators I'm familiar with, I can take. Like the elevator of my orthodentist's hospital. That I can take.

Heights - It's so bad, I can't even go on the balcony without holding onto something. I just feel like I lose my balance in a second - and I'm only on the second floor.

Death/Eternity - Uh, self explanatory? I don't talk about it cause it causes me to have panic attacks.

The Sound Of Teeth Being Pulled - luckily, this is getting very rare for me. They had to extract 4 teeth out of my mouth and I still remember that horrible cracking sound inside my head. But also when they took my upper wisdom teeth out that way ... oh I hope they won't have to smoothen out that piece of bone poking my gum with a tool .... it's actually weird, because I find that my teeth look actually quite cool.

Getting Touched - Well, it all depends on who does it and how. For example, I don't mind by boyfriend hugging me. But... example, in cosmetician school, we were learning how to do a thigh massage. Between my partner and me, I volunteered to lie down first - I instantly tensed up when she started to massage my thighs. And when I had to lie on my stomach, to massage the back of the thighs, I was pretty much breaking out in tears. Thank god there was a break afterwards, but I felt numb and very shakey for hours afterwards....

That's all I can think of right now...

I have a lot of fears. I have OCD which makes me think really deeply about things that upset me.
I think my worst fear is that I'll never have a successful life and never make friends.
I'm terrified of failing. I think if I make a mistake, I'll never do well.
I'm also scared that people won't like me.
But of non anxiety fears - spiders. I hate them so much. It's the way they move. But I can't bring myself to kill them.
I'm scared of dying, but more about my parents or my cat dying. I have nightmares a lot about that.
Of films - Slit mouthed woman. I don't get why but that woman terrifies me! :larry:

Strangely enough, I feel more sympathy regarding animals than humans... perhaps because I think what trouble humans get, they get themselves into and animals/pets require our help. Weird. I didn't cry when I was told my cousin committed suicide, but felt terrible when I heard one of my cat's brother had to be put down after living for only a year~ :larry:

This might sound really weird, but .... I'm scared of hearing people having sex.
I'm not kidding, I'm really afraid of that. If I chance to hear it, I always want to curl up into a corner, cry and puke at the same time while I claw my face with my nails and also cut my arms open lengthwise. That last bit hasn't happened... yet.
Perhaps it's repressed childhood trauma. I dunno.

Definitely weird, but understandable if it stems from some sort of trauma. Doesn't necessarily have to be caused at a young age(though very possible). A horror movie could cause it, relationship troubles, or maybe a close friend who had a bad experience. I don't really know because I'm grasping here, but you might want to talk this one out with a close friend or something. If hearing it already makes you uneasy then what about maintaining a relationship? Not that I'm an expert on this matter or something, but at least try to resolve this issue. Not much else there is to lose no? I wish you the best in any case.

My own fears... I've got 2 and one special case.
1: hospitals
After my appendix burst when I was 12 I was hospitalised for 8 weeks. A standard case takes 3 to 5 days though. The pain I experienced, the pain you cause your family and friends out of worry and the Hospital staff were just awful (staff varies from hospital to hospital, but I had lousy nurses and doctors)

I recovered from my fear of needles. I was punctured so many times for drains and to administer fluids etc. in the veins in my arms that it hurt so bad that the doctors would attach them to my feet. Yup. Artificial food to strengten my body (during my sickes period) entered my body through my foot. I ATE THROUGH MY FOOT.
The fear of needles (originating from the pain and failed try's to properly puncture me) calmed after a few years since I get yearly flu shots.
However everytime when I enter a hospital I feel uneasy and get stomach aches. Those places are just so unpleasant...

2: ladders and step-ladders
I know what you're thinking, but this doesn't originate from the ace attorney series.
These things are just so unstable. Most of the time when you're using one you need to reach high up on the top of the ladder while that thing is shaking like crazy creating the illusion you can fall off any time. I guess my fear stems the first time I experienced this feeling. I haven't been able to shake it off since. The weird thing is though, that I'm not afraid of heights at all.

3 Obsessive Compulsive Disorder regarding doors
Yeah, this is the special one. It's not really a fear but more of a tick/spasm. Everytime when I close a door, whether it's from the garage or my car I need to check it again whether it's closed or not.
It stems from my highschool days, when I left the backdoor unlocked (forgot to lock it) when I rode my bike to school. My parents were furious and gave me a speach to remember. This was the starting point.
A few years later thieves robbed everything of value in our house. The doors were locked but they just busted them. After the dust settled we added additional locks in the house and garage, which encourages the idea of: make sure everything is locked!

So those are my fears freud. What's the verdict?
Face your emptiness don't be afraid. The danger is often smaller than your fear.

I hate elevators. It's because they're so enclosed!
I also don't like it when people touch me.
Sometimes I see upsetting images in my head of animals being hurt. I love animals and so it scares me. I used to ask my mum to check any films I wanted to watch just in case an animal died in it.
I think the most important thing to take from your fears is that it makes you human. It's always best to fight your fears, that way you're never controlled by them. But that's easier for me to say than do (Damn spiders!)

I'm not saying it is definite, but I'm pretty sure if it originates from a trauma, it must've been at a young age. Because shortly before my 11th birthday, I pretty much forgot or simply repressed everything prior to the age of 11 - granted, sometimes I remember a few things. But for the most part, those are things I don't want to remember.

I don't watch horror movies, I have no particular relationship trouble right now and I don't have any close friends that had bad experiences. Also, I have no close friends. Or any friends that I could talk to about this. (Except for my lover, but he already knows and ... yeah. Nothing new there.)

As far as maintaining relationships, well, I'm approaching my 5th Anniversary with my BF. Majority of our time we are having a long distance relationship, but recently he came over for a visit. As one of my previous posts lists "Doesn't Like Being Touched" as a fear, I have to say ... he is one of the few people I don't mind hugging or cuddling with. So it seems I've got a good thing here.

Ladders and Stepladders... I completely forgot that fear.
I don't like them either. We have a 2-step Stepladder and if I ever have to use it, I only go on the lower step. And I already feel uncomfortable. Probably in connection with not even being able to walk onto the balcony...

I am afraid of fear itself.

Which means I'm afraid of anything that causes fear. Horror movies? It's not those that scare me, it's the THOUGHT of having to go see one that terrifies me. THANKS Franklin Delano Roosevelt... :/

Being poisoned. Perhaps because of that, I'm absolutely terrified of almost any animal that I know or suspect can poison me--especially spiders. Since every spider species I know of has a poisonous bite (even though most of them don't have a strong enough poison to kill me), my instinctive reaction when I see a spider is to try to kill it. I also try to keep my distance from bees and their relatives whenever possible. In addition, I'm ridiculously paranoid when it comes to using clean eating utensils and having clean cups and dishes. If the cup looks dirty, I won't drink out of it, even if I know it was washed recently.

What scares me is the thought that there is no such thing as free will: to a certain extent, human behavior is predictable, but it still scares me to think we are unconsciously driven to certain ends without knowing it.

Could you elaborate on that? People are always driven to certain ends because of their own decisions based on their environment. Do you fear the part of not knowing why those decisions are made or that people make faulty decisions because of a lack of better judgement?

What I meant was that people follow their own behaviors and personality which further stem from their experiences and genetics. This results in acts that they do based on what agrees with these inner mechanics. What scares me is that, in a way, this makes acts more predetermined and up to probability rather than an act of free will.

I have an idea to help you get over your fear of hospitals. I think all you need to do is change your P.O.V. of hospitals, instead of thinking of hospitals of scary places where pain and sickness lurk about, think of hospitals as places where people go to heal to get healed by professionals so they can be free from their pain and sicknesses.

Ofcourse I know hospitals aren't meant to prolong suffering and are places for patients to heal their wounds, but I simply can't shake this feeling.
Adding insult to injury, my mother battled a very aggressive form of breast-cancer for 5 years. Thankfully she made it out alive but the treatments and operations certainly took their toll on her body. The visited multiple hospitals in the process and met all kinds of staff members, but she was only positive about 1 of them. Needless to say she also had her share of bad experiences and as family you experience those together.

Have you ever seen a mental institute from the inside? I have. Not only does my grandmother spent years inside one of them (suïcidal issues) a friend of mine was 'contained' there to recover from a (hard)drug addiction. Everything in that complex was heavily locked and everytime a door opens you hear the heavy lock clicking shut behind you. Fences that are 3 metres high with barbed wire also add to the feeling of being trapped and not to mention the people walking around there.

So I can change my point of view however I want and I can certainly understand if people have good affinity with hospitals, but I don't. The place smells, I feel trapped and just get down-right uncomfortable in them.

I have a weird case of vertigo. If I'm standing on a high ledge with no railing, then I have no problem. But if O sit on said ledge then I get the feeling that I'm sliding of the ledge.

Yes and birth is a beautiful, natural process (it's not, it's disgusting and painful) and the maternity ward is the only happy place in a hospital because women are there because they want to be - I hope you can convince the rape victim who was stupid enough to give birth to the rapist's baby of that in bed 3.

Thank goodness your mother is a cancer survivor! Actually, I have been to a mental hospital before because my parents forced me to. :( I remember crying everyday because I felt like a prisoner and I didn't have my special someone to talk to...never mind, forget what I said. :sadshoe: I just had a brainstorm, I guess the only way someone could change their P.O.V. of a hospital is if the people who run the hospitals could change their atmosphere.

Well, I'm afraid of snakes and spiders.

Snakes, well, it's kinda hard to explain why I'm afraid of snakes.

Spiders, on the other hand, yeah, I can explain that. A long time ago, when I was a young kid, I happened to pick up a stick to use as a walking stick, I think. And I didn't noticed that a spider was crawling from the stick to my arm until it crawled onto my face and I seriously did freak out and dropped the stick. Even since that incident, I'm now afraid of spiders for the rest of my life.

Posted here two years ago, and since then, I have gotten over none of my fears and formed two more: water and jellyfish.

I'm obviously fine with bathtubs and pools (well, only sort of because I know kids pee in them XP) and things like that, but it's natural bodies of water that I can't stand. Rivers, lakes, and especially the ocean... I just can't handle them anymore. I used to be fine with it, but now when I go, I think too hard about what's living in it, and what it would do, or even if I would step on it. I'm also a bit of a mysophobe, so the contaminants in it and the slimy plant life freak me out.

And the whole jellyfish thing is kind of linked to that, and is why I find oceans to be the worst. Jellyfish are the most evil creatures in the world. Period. Some are big, some are small. Most cause pain, others cause death. They're hard to kill, and many hard to see. They're horrible. The little ones are the worst though.

I've been afraid of spiders ever since this huge one fell down from somewhere and landed on my head. It felt like something from a horror movie :larry:

I'm scared of rejection and golliwog dolls...

And the photograph of 'Resusci Anne' on Wikipedia scares the Hell out of me.

I'm afraid of rejection and the Creepypasta Wiki. I mean, I know some of the stories in there are really not scary, but at the same time there are stories in there that literally creep me out to the point where I can't sleep.

Also, I got extremely scared by a certain picture on the internet one day, entitled "Go to Sleep." Needless to say, that picture made it pretty difficult to "go to sleep." :P

Finally, I am scared of how I might die.

monkeys/apes, due to an unfortunate zoo incident. (edit: i honestly can no longer tell if it was a monkey or a chimp.) now i avoid apes/monkeys/babboons or if i can't then i just don't go near their enclosure when i'm at a zoo. i also don't like watching performing apes/monkeys. i absolutely hate the planet of the apes movie especially the end with
Spoiler:
the ape lincoln statue. i felt so horrible like i was in the movie and i was trapped in an ape world guhhh
the rise of the planet of the apes i found moderately tolerable though.

i don't mind looking at gibbons though, and lemurs, they are actually kind of cute hahaha

I'm afraid of a lot of things, but mostly about the death.

Why?

Because... well, just think about it. We are still young, sure, we have a lot of years to live but what if we're now 100 years old and about to die soon? I can't even imagine what death is like and I don't want to experience it in the next few months or years. Being dead.. we can't even imagine how it would be. Are we going to go through a white light? Are we going into heaven? Or are we just under the earth and wait until our dead body is completely captured by insects? Or is it just dark and it's like a slumber we never can escape?

Yeah, that. I'm so afraid of it that they brought me to the hospital because they thought I have shizophrenia or something like that :payne:

The beginning was quite fun, just with all the ups and downs

Here goes. I've got a lot, most of them are pretty stupid.

Spiders: UGH. It's not how they look, it's that they're so poisonous and I don't know how to tell the difference between the deadly ones and the mostly harmless ones. Like once I had a spider on my window. It was a little tiny guy and I tried to kill it with a shoe but I irrationally thought that it would crawl up the shoe and bite me. Then I started to think about what would happen if it was deadly poisonous so I chickened out and just stared at it cautiously for a while. Eventually I realized I could just open my window to kill it and I did, thank goodness I didn't call my mom that would have been embarrassing DX

Bees and wasps: I know practically everybody has this one, but I figured I have to say this one way. I've never been stung before, so I'm kind of obsessive about keeping it that way. normally I think it hurts a lot more than it probably does.

Not being good enough: Everything I do, I always find somebody that is better than me at it. I know that's natural that I'm not the very best at everything, but I start to convince myself that I suck and I will never be as good as whoever is better than me. Therefore, I am NEVER good enough for myself. Sometimes it serves as motivation but sometimes I just quit because of it...

All of my friends actually being fake: This one is super stupid. I sometimes think that all of my friends only pretending to like me and I'm really a jerk/idiot/boring person. It doesn't make much sense because I have plenty of proof against this, but whenever I start thinking like that I forget those things. I think it's because I have lots of fake friends that I really, REALLY hate and I guess my mind thinks everyone is like that.

Me just being a bother: Also pretty dumb. I constantly think that if I ask someone for something, even if he/she is just doing their job, I'm being an extreme bother to them and that I'm irritating them. If I ask a question and they know the answer, I automatically think it was a stupid question. Probably also because I'm like that.

Being looked down upon: I think that anyone even just a year older than me thinks I'm not as smart as them, thinks I'm annoying, or just flat out doesn't like me. Like I have a friend who is 3 years older than me who I'm always afraid she will judge me if I even say one thing, even though I know she's a really sweet person and doesn't think like that. My idol from school is also 3 years older and I'm way to afraid to even speak to her. Also my best friend who is a grade higher is the same but not quite as bad. This is also because that's how I think too.

Being insane: I don't know about this one. It's just sometimes I start getting a little weird (once I stared at a knife until the teacher took it away and I was SUPER crazy irritable that day and talking to myself, but that was only for a few hours then I went back to normal) and I think I'm going crazy. But it passes soon enough so I'm not that worried.

My appearance: face it, every girl worries about this at least a bit, so no explanation needed.

I think I need to work on not being judgmental, that would probably fix a lot of this.
