Quote:
A camouflaged gunman opened fire with a 9mm Beretta in the Albertville Realschule at approximately 09:30 (CET). Eyewitness reports state that the gunman fired indiscriminately in the classrooms and the corridors. The BBC reports that he moved from room to room, shooting his victims in the head, indicating that the shots were not random. The perpetrator fired more than 60 shots at the school and 44 more when escaping.

Nine students, two female teachers and one female student teacher were killed. The students were 14-15 years old, eight of them female.

After receiving an emergency call by a student at 09:33 local time, three officers reached the scene two minutes later and entered the school. The gunman shot at them and fled the building.

I heard this on the news recently, because I live in Belgium; that's pretty close by.

Of course, they're blaming it on violent videogames. Doesn't surprise me.
Why is it so hard for people to accept that some people are just crazy in the head?

I'll never believe that a fictional simulation would cause a normal person to just do things like this.
Reversed, sure, violent crazy people might like violent games.
And that's why with these things people always find "the killer was known to play violent videogames..."

I was very shocked when I heard it in the Radio yesterday and I was a little bit afraid of going to school today.
I don't quite get it why the politicians haven't done something against Mobbing yet. Because of Mobbing these desperate people run amok and not because of the violent games. In my opinion without these games there would be even more people who run amok...

Thank god this wasn't my school..
And yes, some people never find a better reason than that.
As if someone would actually do that because he's sawn it somewhere in a video game?
No normal human would do that.
There were many factors coming together,
The motive isn't clear yet but you can say for sure it wasn't because of any stupid video game.
They must have some kind of.. illness to cause someone to kill innocent people just because they feel like it.
And it's pretty sad people are able to kill just to get attention or whatever his motive was.
And in what kind of community do I live - where people get shoot in school because of some ill person?

Oh God, I can't keep thinking "it could have been my school". Playing ego shooters doesn't make you a killer - it's loneliness, anger, rejection and failure all coming together.
I can imagine that he shot at girls because he was hurt by them (as in rejected) or mainly girls bullied him, but it could have been that they just sat too close to the door. Yesterday, when we talked about what happened in school, I noticed that if someone were to open the door and pull out the gun, I'd be the first to be shot. It sent a shiver down my spine, really.
I don't really have any words for what happened, I'm just shocked. I'm shocked that kids as old as me had to die, random passers-by, policemen. I'm scared that it could happen anytime at my school, too. I want to live.

He more than likely knew the people he shot, as it says he was a 17 year old graduate of the school. And it said 'the shots were not random.'

... I'm a little spooked that it might happen at my college, too. >.> Even though we're all hidden behind computers.

And if ANY fucking reporter says "OH THIS GUY MUST HAVE PLAYED VIOLENT VIDEOGAMES" I will travel all the way up to where this reporter lives and smack him/her. Because I'm sick and tired of hearing that. I play some of the most violent games you'll ever see, and ENJOY them, and I've never picked up or used a revolver or any kind of gun, nor even thought about doing so.

... And why is it that in most school shootings, the perp ends up killing himself?

He did. It's a fact. They found them on his computer. And no, I'm not saying they make you pull out a gun and shoot at real people.

Well, he might have known the teachers he killed. But the students? They were 14/15 years old and had no connection to him (as said on the news, I'm directly at source over here). He also killed two people in a car shop (? or something like that) who were just innocently looking at a car. He didn't know the policeman either.

Probably out of despair and hopelessness. Most shooters plan the rampage to "go out with a bang", "be remembered as what they truly are".

Well, he tried to get away, so when police and stuff caught up, he probably had rather died than to face judgement for the things he did.

Shit if it takes that to ban a certain video game I'll buy every single Final Fantasy game/whatever and shoot up a school.

I dunno, could well happen, could be done by anyone just cause they feel like it or they think it might help them in some way or because they want to be remembered.
Best thing to do is forget the killer and remember the victims, stop talking about him in any way, stop publisising him and let him rot.

*sigh* Another person goes into a school and takes a number of lives...I've seen the message he posted on the chat room in the Daily Mirror and it sounded so terribly hateful and chilling...which I think this person clearly was filled with. Sad, but true...

It's a tragedy this had to happen...not the first case, and it won't be the last. All the same, I pray that those who died will RIP.

How is this remark stupid? I think it can definitely make some sense. And really, preschool has nothing to do with it. Stop being so insulting.

He's saying that the person played violent video games because they already had a prior fixation on killing people. Instead of actually going out and doing it, he'd play games in order to appease it. But apparently, the video games weren't enough for that person. The reverse would be wanting to kill people because they played violent video games.

Anyway, the whole situation is sad. And of course, I'm sure that violent video games will be brought into the spotlight once again because of it. *sighs*

I personally think that the press should stop being so jerkish. They are pushing it over the limits with their reports about the incident, especially with demonizing Tim K. and the video games.
I honestly believe that there would be less depressed people who want to end their lives with a huge BANG (aka killing some schoolmates and then yourself) if it wouldn't be such a huge BANG to begin with! The media are overracting so much and throw the evil cliches so much around that these people who want to end their miserable lives (makes you wonder: how did their life become so miserable in the first place? You surely can't blame video games here ...) thinkt that they can pretty much end it like this and get the attention they always strifed for.

Honestly, looking at some of the replies in the topic (mine included!), the comment makes sense up until the preschool part. You have to take it generally and ignore the target.
