I don't really understand all the worry about it. Sure it's not nice, but neither is normal flu. I don't think we need 70 odd million leaflets telling us that after we sneeze to wash our hands. Most normal people would do that anyway. I did have a rofl when I read in a magasine today, that when asked if she was worried about the virus, Paris Hilton responded "I don't eat pork". |

Well so I dunno about elsewhere but it is spreading rapidly here in New York. We've already had a couple of deaths because of it, and schools are being closed down. Still not at pandemic levels I guess but things are looking kinda serious.

We've got a lot more people dying from seasonal flu than swine flu. I think scientists think that a lot of the deaths in Mexico aren't from swine flu or something...? |

Yes, a "couple" technically means 2, but people use it to mean a relatively small number, and that's what it sounded like you meant in context, not exactly 2 (whereas if you said "2 deaths" I would think you meant "2 deaths") |

I don't think anyone should worry about it. I've noticed these 'epidemics' pop up all the time. Remember Bird Flu? SARS? West Nile Virus? All of those were just as hyped up as this, and eventually people just stopped worrying about it. |

Meh, it's all just hype. Whenever there's slow news, they have to make a story like, "ZOMG!! Liek this many people are gonna get the swine flu and there's nothing we can do about it!! We're screwed." I think that the majority of the deaths were from really old people and children/babies....or something like that. And when someone does get it, the news is all over it and making it "breaking news." I really don't think anybody gives a rat's ass about the swine flu....except the media. |

Actually, I disagree. Swine flu seems like it is being taken exactly the way it should be - seriously but not to the point of panic. The fact is, H1N1 is a global pandemic. It is very contagious, it's spreading throughout the world, and there is no vaccine for it yet. It isn't being overhyped, it is being dealt with in a calm and reasonable manner. My college has sent out notices to everyone on campus, informing them of the facts about the disease and what to do if you think you may have contracted it. It is only as dangerous as the normal flu, but the normal flu kills large numbers of people each year. What's different about H1N1 is that it can't be protected against, so people just have to be extra careful |

If I missed school for a month, I'd probably have to repeat a grade. Our school rules are really dumb. Anyway! Sort of back on topic, the same friend of mine who got sick with H1N1 also showed me a picture she found online (if I'm not mistaken, I still have it on my computer, but you could probably find it through a bit of searching) of a little kid licking a pig's nose. She called it "This Is Why We Have Swine Flu." |

Thing still around? Didn't hear of it for, what, a month now? Well, this shit made my country's goverment crap their pants (swine flu + obligatory legislative elections = bad), and I missed school an entire month for sanitary emergency. Well, 2 weeks + 2 weeks of Summer break. People are starting the conspiracies regarding the vaccine. What if it exists? It isn't being used anyway, so shut up, whoever might bring that up. Anyway, Tinker's right. Normal flu kills more than this. But oh well, another death cause to the world is never good. |
