go away hatman

I've been a huge fan of mahjong for a number of years now and I've actually invested a good two-hundred or so dollars in this gorgeous, deluxe Nintendo set (no it's not video game related you doofuses). My favorite hand-matching tabletop game for sure.

Board-games I don't really have such a favorite. Catan is always a classic though and Carcassone gets a lot of fun. Sadly, I don't actually own them for real, only on my 360. I did buy Die Macher the other day though. It was on sale for fifteen bucks clearance.

anyway, i like carc and catan, but i'm more into two-player "medium-level" abstracts (i.e. not chess, go, or janggi, although i like those too) like einfach genial, gipf, etc. carc with two people is a ton better than with three or more.

if i am playing a multiplayer game, i'd prefer either a really heavy game (die macher) or a pretty light one (pillars of the earth) depending on my mood. my favorites tend to be ones where you have a bunch of opportunities to screw the player to your left.

Two player games are the best because it's impossible to find three/four/six people to gather round and play table games.

True.

Personally, it's been a while since I sat down and played board games with a lot of people, but the local gaming store I go to is gonna do board game nights once every two weeks.

For 2 player games, my personal favorite is Mancala, a two player strategy game that originated in Africa and the Middle East. I also like chess, but I'm not a strategist there, I just play hoping I win.

As for 2 or more player, I like Monopoly, Clue, and Pachisi, but as HH said, it's hard to find more than two people to play.

Card games are pretty fun too. It's easier to get more than two people together for a game of Texas Hold 'Em than it is for Clue (at least in my family anyway). I also like Bullshit, Egyptian Rat Race, and Spades. And when I'm by myself I'll time test myself in a game of Klondike Solitaire.

This is even true in college.

In a dorm.

When people are bored.

And even say they'd like to. :larry:

oh, if anyone wants to play something (almost anything really, i like all kinds of games) and i or you know of an online version of it i'll almost 100% be down for it; send me a pm here or through msn or whatever and maybe we can arrange something.

because finding opponents is hard and i like to play games.

also, all you chumps coming in and going "what is die macher or carcassonne or hive i dont get it aaa" and leaving (i know you exist), or just posting monopoly and cluedo (neon lemmy buttface), i'd be happy to teach any game i know how to play.

I like pool. My friends and I sometimes go play at the local poolhall on Friday nights.

They also taught me how to play mahjong maybe four or five weeks ago. I ended up with the most money even though I only won the first round. Although the rules were slightly simplified--we didn't rotate north/east/south/west, and some other things I don't quite remember.

Checkers and chess are fun, although I'm quite novice. I often play Catan when I visit my cousins.

Talisman destroyed many semesters back in the day. I wasn't one of it's victims, but it did. It very did.

Still a fun game for a former Games Workshop product.

Stupid guy at games workshop kept asking questions when i was going to start 40k. "What do you want?" "Which one do you like?" "Can i help you?" Every minute. Hence why i never set foot in games workshop ever again.

My husband and I regularly get to together with friends to either play tabletop RPGs or board games.

RPGs: Shadowrun, Dungeons and Dragons, All Flesh Must Be Eaten (and other Eden Studios games).

Board Games:Arkam Horror mainly in this category. It is a game where all players work together to fight monster and eventually the elder evil. It is a pretty long game and it is not always victorious. On very rare occasions will we play Clue, Monopoly, or Trivial Pursuit.

Card Games: Chez Geek is one of my favorites because you really get to mess with the other players and prevent them from winning. It has many variations too and you can combine them to make a very huge deck.

Lunch Money is very fun because you get to think of creative ways to beat the crap out of other people (with words of course).

Abduction is another interesting game where you are trying to escape an alien ship while preventing your opponents from doing the same.

Let's Kill is one that I haven't played very much yet, but it also has the potential for messing up your opponents. I played on card on my husband and he had to speak in Shakespearean English for the rest of game or suffer some kind of penalty.

Grave Robbers from Outer Space Is one of a series of B-Movie themed games. In it, your goal is to have the most items in play (characters, weapons, sets, etc.) before the credits roll (which is a card you can play, but I believe there are other ways to end the game too).

Monopoly is the BEST! Especially when you get 20 minutes into it and all of your friends have to roll past your brigade of hotels.

My husband and his friends have played with all the expansions at once. Some expansions add boards and others just add cards. I don't think they are necessary to enjoy the game, but if you have played it for a while and wanted to add something new they exist for that reason. I can see not wanting to shell out the money for the game. I hope you get the chance to try it out sometime.
