I don't think it's possible to know if you actually like a person until you have a face-to-face conversation. Expressions, body language, mannerisms... they all count towards people's opinions of you. Oh the internet there's none of that.
Part of the reason why I am very opposed to online dating. Of any kind.
But that's just me, and I'm a very touchy-feely person who likes things that are tangible. :)

About online dating, I think it can work, but only if both parties are willing to cross the distance firguratively. Also, you can't just stay in a relationship like that forever, so eventually it's necessary to meet up IRL.
