Post subject:  Are You Tired Of Obsessive Single Missing Person Case Media
Should Mainstream National/International Media fanboy a missing person case for a lengthy period of time even though very few cases that fit the commonly profiled format are solved through National/International Media help. I'm talking about older cases like Jessica Lunsford, Madeleine McCann and recent cases like Haleigh Cummings and Somer Thompson. This despite kidnapping abductions take up %2-10 percent of all missing person cases. Do you think that if the Media cannot solve abduction cases involving sexual offenders by bringing the child home alive then what's the point of covering them to this extreme extent.

It's like America's Most Wanted profiling Alexis Flores and Berny Figueroa extensively even though they're likely in Honduras where they have never caught a fugitive in their 21 years of airing..

I live in Ontario, Canada where we got a ton of news on missing 8-year old Tori Stafford from Woodstock. Aside from a grainy survillence video with Tori with an unidentified woman at the time there was nothing for local media even to go on. And yet it got National Coverage with her remains being found a long way north.

I could appreciate the Madeleine McCann effort to begin with- but now it seems pretty clear that she isn't going to be found. Poor girl....

The big news is some girl that went missing over a decade ago has recently returned, so I guess as long as there's hope, why not. I don't see why you're complaining, somebody out there is seriously worried about whoever it is that's gone missing, or distraught about some kid that ran away or was kidnapped and is now dead, and I guess that's just the network's way of paying respects. Also

What justis76 said is definetely right.
The media doesn't give a damn for the missing person. It's all for the sake of audience. In fact, I believe that the excessive exposure of the case to the media only makes the investigation harder:
-Reporters following the police everywhere. The time that an investigator took to give an interview could be used to save a kid before it's too late
-Public disinterest. With the case being constantly shown to the public, everyone believes that, with such a huge exposure, a lot of people are doing their best to help and that the case is almost solved. Of course, believing this is a huge mistake.

There are other reasons, but I'm not in the mood to list all of them. xD
So, in a nutshell: "Shocking" case -> Media thinks of $$$ -> Investigation is disturbed + foolish audience = DEAD END :larry:

Yeah, well, I'm starting to get used with this kind of situation. Around here, the media is always sniffing for a "tragic" or "uncommon" case. :Brush-Sniff:

Most of the media only want the fame and money, so it's likely that they'll keep on showing these, even when people dislike it.

Not very many examples beyond that. But keep in mind they keep saying they want to bring children home. So most of their cases involve children being murdered by sexual offenders. While it's not a bad idea to focus on the Sexual Offender topic and the danger to children, perhaps if you focus more on cases like Sex Offender Robbie Porter who kidnapped child Haylee Donathan and both were found east of San Diego then maybe you can bring a child home alive thanks to the media. The cases they profile almost always involves the person being brought to the morgue.

I always thought that there's so much media coverage of these things to raise awareness and to tell people to be on the lookout for those missing kids....

Media dosent care theyre just whoring out these missing people so they can make more and more money especially tabloids.
Like with the Madiline McCann thing nobody could shut up talking shit about crap that didnt even have anything to do whitMadiline.
