The bat itself didn't kill him; it simply hit the ball that took his life. Heck, why aren't they suing the company that made the baseballs? If the ball had been softer, he wouldn't have died. While they're at it, why don't they sue for baseball players to be required to wear helmets and masks at all times so if they're hit on the head with a baseball, they won't get hurt? And how about the batter? If the batter had swung a little earlier or a little later, the ball would have missed Patch's head completely. Clearly, the batter's also responsible. |

Right because pitchers wear helmets. >> But seriously, this was clearly a freak accident. It's too bad that the kid died but suing the bat company is pretty stupid. Wooden bats can break and fly off in strange directions and possibly hit or impale people. I didn't see anything in the story indicating why wooden bats would be safer. Playing sports in any situation has inherent risks. |

I think this is an awsome story. Maybe the perants should sue whever made the ball aswell? And yeah, whatever sport you play can be dangerous. My mate broke his leg during football but he didn't go and sue the school, or ball company. And what diffrence does the bat make? I mean whatever one you use it's still going to hurt. |

Maybe but the family probably looks at it since the bat was designed to make it dangerously fast. Like your metaphor except the builder designed the stairs poorly making folk likely to trip. |
