Right, anybody ever do a mock trial? At school, maybe?

For me, the answer is yes. My school is going to be holding a mock trial hopefully Tuesday, but more than likely we need to push back the date due to people consistently not showing up (sick or otherwise).

I'm playing the Prosecution. Really helps that my dad is an attorney.

I actually did that recently, I was the prosecution with another guy. We got our guilty verdict, yeah, we totally destroyed them.

Did one a couple weeks ago with a bunch of guys from a school friend's anime club.

Played defense, managed to get a not guilty verdict by insufficient evidence. The prosecution guys were quite good, but I managed to throw my share of PW and Umineko quotes and overall geekiness.

We had a sort-of non official trial where our friend middle fingered our teacher, a goody-goody told her, and we argued for the rest of the lesson. The goody-goody and several other people were witnesses, some people who liked the dude who middle fingered her were on his side (including me) as defense, the rest were prosecution.

I wish i could have a proper one but NO-ONE in our school plays AA. They call me a freak when i yell 'OBJECTION' when someone is wrong. meh, whatev

I was actually part of one last Saturday x]
I was defence for the first case (and if i do say so myself-I was amazing) and was a defence witness for the second.
The judge for teh first case was biased, though, just because my school's not from Essex ¬.¬ or posh like the other schools that participated.
We won the second case (yay!), mainly because the two defence attorneys we had (James and Jim) were rather awesome.

Just so you know, the first case was about somebody in possession of cannabis and accused with intent to supply.
The second was about a robbery and assult. Though the prosecution couldn't really make a case against the client. x]

Couldn't shout objection at all. No need for it and we'd be kicked out if I did. Dx

In middle school my seminar class did two every year. I was the prosecution in a murder case regarding a doctor going through with assisted suicide despite the fact the patient allegedly wanted to back out. Then I was the prosecution in an assault lawsuit. And before I transferred schools I had a murder trial about a pregnant women getting into a car allegedly drunk and thus that cost the life of her unborn child. Why she was being prosecuted I will never know. I was the defense.

Sadly me and my team lost all three trials. The first two was because the defense did a good job but the last one was because the damn 6th grade jury was not paying attention to our cross-examinations.

We did one when I was in the eighth grade. I was a witness for the defense. The prosecutor in our class was a total idiot who hadn't done proper research, so my testimony was "invalid." The trial was in defense of Josef Mengele, a doctor who performed horrific experiments on people during the NAZI regime. We didn't get to pick which side we wanted to be on because everyone would have wanted to be on the prosecution side. We were assigned parts (jurors, witnesses, attorneys, and the judge) based on essays we had to write. The best essay got to be the judge and the worst got to be the jurors. It was a lot of fun, but stressful too. I think our class's verdict ended up in a mistrial because the star witness, Mengele himself, committed perjury on the stand. The jury was hung if I remember correctly.

I've never had a Mock Trial, but I've been in a class debate before. I got yelled at for questioning the other side's credibility.

We sorta had one in Grade 10 over "Of Mice and Men" on the question whether Lenny would be convicted or not with murder if he had survived the end of the book. I was on the prosecuting side and lost because of a biased jury >_>

The trial got set back to Tuesday because people weren't showing (that, and we had a half-day), so I get about five days to prepare my case some more.

i don't think that would ever happen here, we have different rules and stuff here also, no objection and prosecutors and stuff at all, but i dreamed one if that counts..
first i was defence, it was for cheating. i got her not guilty by using her hand writing and dislexy, someone had putted it in her books. after that, the class was pissed off because no one likes her or me, (that's real also..) and then i became prosecutor (because i was the only one who wanted to prove him guilty) for the one whose handwriting was on the not. it was fun, to bad it wasn't real, i was just sitting in English class .. :larry:

We had the trial today. I won.

Ironically, not for the reasons I set up.

Spoiler: How the victim was convicted
Apparently, she got convicted because she was driving on the inside lane, and thus should've seen the pedestrian.

Very true. Maybe it's because we've played Ace Attorney, so we have a rudimentary knowledge of how the legal system works.

I had a bonus because my dad's a lawyer for the IRS. He plays both Prosecution and Defense, depending on the trial.

I don't really think AA helps with understanding the legal system...it might help develop interest, but the people who watch TV legal dramas would know a lot more than people who only played AA. In fact, I'd say AA is more misleading than anything else - I can't think of many things that it gets right, besides that there's a prosecutor, defense attorney, and a judge... :shoe:

My favorite is 1-5: "there are only 2 rules of evidence!" When I told my brother I was contemplating taking evidence, he said "oh, that'll be really easy!" I disagreed, since it's known to be a reasonably difficult class. He replied, "yeah, but there are only 2 rules!" :P He was being facetious, but you get my drift. :redd:

Well, I remember a couple of years ago it was sort of a class trial because someone's wallet was stolen. I was the detective, as usual. Nobody was convicted, though, because it turns out the person only placed it there and forgot about it. *sigh*

Another time was in our schoolbus, my younger schoolmates and I had a trial, with me as the judge and telling them all the rules of a trial, since I'm the only one with Ace Attorney. We had a lot of fun, but the judge left early. (Yes, that was me, I left early because I was the first one to be dropped off at my house.)
I've been away for far too long.
So long, in fact, that all of my signatures now exist behind a paywall.

Yeahup I was the accused.
Accused of possession of drugs with intent to sell.
Got like a 13-4 Not Proven Verdict :will:

Was great fun.
Prosecution: So are you saying the police officers lied about what they saw?
Me: (Hmm well they must have) :yuusaku: I guess so yea!
Defence: Ugh....implicating police officers lied has higher consequences.

By the end of it the Prosecution was groaning.
All in all considering it was only a two-witness thing, me being one of them I think it went pretty well :keiko:

Well, my class and me just started with our first mock trial today! :D

The trial will be based on "The Reader" by Bernhard Schlink, so we are kinda replaying a scene from the part when Hanna Schmitz is in court and accused of killing several KZ-prisoners as a KZ-attendant and her lawyer is speaking for her. We modified this scene though, so Michael Berg actually says that Hanna is an illiterate, was tricked about that form she signed and bla bla bla (just read it on wikipedia, guys!)

So anyway, I'm one of the prosecutors because I really really didn't want to be a defense attorney in that case (I kinda feel sorry for the guys who ended up with taking that position :/). We need to point out that Hanna being an illiterate cannot excuse the things she did to the KZ-prisoners. We will also mention that she's just part guilty, since the three other attendants are accused too and tricked her with the form where it's stated that she's the one who's only guilty.
So, we prepared some counter-arguments, questions and wrote a final speech of the prosecution as well today. I really can't wait for the mock trial to start now, I'm kinda curious how we will manage the thing and how the trial will end......and of course, I wanna win and destroy the defense! >:D

In school, we did a mock trial for the killer in Crime and Punishment. I was on the prosecution's side mainly objecting to the failure of the witnesses and the defense trying to lead them. Finger-pointing included. :object:
Unfortunately, the jury could not follow anything anyone was saying, and the defendant got off scott free.

Once, in junior year. It was a civil case in an AU of The Great Gatsby; I was on the prosecution. We won half of the lawsuit; we won Daisy the custody of her daughter, but not Tom's money :sadshoe:

In hindsight, I shouldn't have paid attention to the teacher's advice. There were things that could have popped up if I'd asked for bits of testimony she pushed us away from...

While I had yet to play Ace Attorney at the time (though I'd certainly heard of it!), I managed to pull off a ridiculous objection: I objected to the defense's nitpicking of the usage of past tense within Daisy's testimony, stating that she was talking about a line she'd already said, so of course she'd use past tense. Unfortunately, I didn't speak or think fast enough to follow through with it  Admittedly, even if I had, the teacher probably would've shot it down, since Daisy really DID use past tense in the book... But still! I could've used that! :sadshoe: On the bright side, though, I gave everyone a good laugh! :edgy:
So I finally grew a brain and remembered to give myself a signature... Whoopee.

I've never done a mock trial, though I have done a mock political debate. It was debating doctor assisted suicide. I was on the supporting side, stating how some people have no quality of life, being unable to move, use the bathroom, and eat on their own. I forget if I won the debate or not, I don't have a very good memory.

Due to me going to a Private-Christian school, we don't hold mock trials. But I'm really interested, but the next chance I'll get to ever participate in a mock trial will be law-school... -_-
Unless theres a mock trial team that accepts non-students...
