Concerned about rising rates of both in a graying nation, Japanese lawmakers last year set a maximum waistline size for anyone age 40 and older: 85 centimeters (33.5 inches) for men and 90 centimeters (35.4 inches) for women.

This article is bullshit. Nobody is being punished for being fat in Japan. You could say it's more of a social stigma to be fat(what country isn't, really?), but you are NOT gonna see people automatically get fined on the street because they can't fit into a size 33. This whole thing's merely a slap on the wrist, bugging overweight people about how they're raising other people's insurance rates, and nothing more.

Heh, I can still go, so no problem! (although I'll probably be fined for being too tall). No wonder there's a problem with anorexia in Japan...
Oh and what about people who have naturally large builds? Or people who are really muscular? Methinks this rule is silly and will die out (plus thin people scare me).

And thus the sport known as sumo wrestling ceased to exist.
On April 3, 2016, Court Records Forums experienced a miracle upon that day.

Eat a hamburger, you lanky twig.

In all honesty, there's more a problem with being too thin in Japan than obesity. Unless you're like a salaryman who drinks beer and eat ramen down to the soup every single night, you're not gonna get all that fat from the daily Japanese diet(even those salarymen aren't all that fat either).

Chill the limit is for age 40 year olds anyway. I imagine most are young enough for it here.

And it's no problem if you break the waistline because you are too buff....just means when they come to arrest you, you can crush their skulls and stick-thin bodies with your treetrunk-shaped arms.

Most of you guys don't know how to read, do you?

The article never said anything about people NOT being let into the country because their waist size was over the limit. None of you are middle-aged Japanese workers, are you? No, you say. Then this article has nothing to do with you.

Just listen to johnny rainbow, kiddos. He lives in Japan, so he actually knows what he is talking about. Next time try reading the article before jumping to false conclusions.

85 centimeters is actually pretty large, y'know.

And it said nothing about restricting arm circumference, which is totally unrelated to waistline size. :P. And cops have guns (maybe not in Japan though...)

I think mega buff people can get big waists too right?
Though if they've got enough muscle to break that limit then the bullets will probably bounce off their rock-hard abs and pecs.

This sounds a lot like the Child restriction in China, where there's not really a law prohibiting this, but that insurance and tax will go up if the "rule" is violated, or whatever.

The law system really sucks. Everywhere.

:objection:

I should note that human tissue, even muscle, is rather weak in comparison to metal. And when a bullet is capable of penetrating metal, then you're kinda screwed.

Also: Large =/= dense. Density would be what would stop the bullets. Being large, not so much.

This would explain part of the reasoning behind this statement.

No, it's not possible or logical. People just don't walk away from being hit with a metal slug traveling at 2000 fps. You don't need to see a sarcasm tag to know that's it's not serious.

You'd be surprised with the levels of idiocy that I've run into over my times on the internets.

Also, I tend to object immediately to any illogical thing, even if the guy was not serious. Consider me an idiot that way.

I do not like overly fat people, sorry. Outside of certain medical issues. I can not say I like insanely skinny people either.

The worst is parents who force feed their kids to make them 'fat like me'. That HAS happened.

But yeah, I'm not buying that article. I think it would be good if a country like say, America would take serious action to fight obesity, but Japan doesn't need it.

Well the story about the woman who went on a crash diet is probably true, but everything else about that article is just nonsense and overly sensationalizing in an attempt to make Japan look even weirder than it seems(which a lot of the media seem to do).
