We are allowed to have this topic, right? I would think it makes sense.

Well, tonight the Olympics kick off, and a bunch of my friends and I are pretty excited. Naturally, I've got a bit more to be excited about than others because, well, it's my country that's hosting the olympics this year. Plus, all of the reports in the country say that Canada's going to win big, of course that might just be a lot of hype. Only time will tell.
So, what are your thoughts on the Olympics? Love it? Hate it? How do you think your country's going to do this year?

I love watching the Olympics; It's the only sports related thing I really watch. I'm not sure how my home country (USA) is going to do, but it doesn't matter because it's fun to watch and I think would all do good, I guess.

If Team GB get a medal (let alone a gold one) I'll eat my hat! Seriously, I'm not expecting anything to be won due to the fact that we aren't accustomed to being around snow.

I'd watch the Olympics, but like the Beijing games, they'll be shown on TV at 2am or something equally obnoxious (ie whilst I'm sleeping).

Anyway, I find the fact that they've had to transport snow from other places absolutely hilarious (I guess global warming must be true!).

Yeah, that is kind of annoying. Down in DC they're being loaded with unwanted snow, but up here in Canada we're desperate for some. I don't know what we did wrong, but it seems like Karma's out to get Canada. That or Mother Nature decided to answer all the Canadians prayers for less snow at the worst possible time.

Well, we just got dumped with a couple inches of snow in the central area of the US. But I'm going to try and watch the opening ceremony tonight. And I believe that it's all global warming's fault.

For some reason, I actually never cared for the Winter Olympics. Now that I think about it, I never cared about the Summer ones either.
But I'm hoping my country gets at least one... Who am I kidding, we are only good at soccer, and that's a Summer Olympics sport.

Normally, I try to avoid sports and the Olympics are no exception, and yet I absolutely adore the mascots for this!!! They're so cute and huggable looking! :3

But...my dad just threatened me saying that if I don't watch the opening ceremony, he'll kick me out... :lana:

I left the opening ceremony on my tv so I could watch it later. And we recorded it on our DVR, so maybe I should watch it later...

If I knew the answer to that, I wouldn't have watched it. It was pretty amazing but not as good as China's IMO.

Terrible news though: A Georgian luger died during a training session. :sadshoe:

The Irish are gonna kick everyone's asses this year!

But yes I love the olympics especially the alpine skiing.
The opening ceremony was pretty amazing I must say.

To be honest, though, I couldn't care less about the Olympics. I'm not really into much sports.

Don't they go under United Kingdom in the Olympics? We know that the UK's only good quality is Wales. Ok, that's a lie. Wales is just their best. Scotland and Ireland are also awesome.

But all the UK people in the Olympics are English...Bah.
Moo.

Uh, no. Why would we go under the United Kingdom? That's like saying Canada can go under the USA.

Why the hell is Taiwan listed as Chinese Taipei?!?

I could understand if these were the Chinese Olympics, but it's in Canada this time! What do they got against Taiwan?!?

No it's not. Why would they do that when all they can talk about is how they're not part of China?

i thought the opening ceremonies were so disappointing, i mean, Canada could've done better. But, it's hard to top Beijing after how well they did it. =)

Dammit, I missed the opening ceremony and today it conflicts with the Chinese New Year celebrations... Oh well. The only "sport" I'll really pay attention to is ice skating - I love seeing how many spins they can do at once and of course it's always hilarious when they fall down. Schadenfreude, no?

You're a moron. I'm relatively sure they even went so far as to actually EXPLAIN it at the ceremony just so people wouldn't get confused, yet you still don't get it.

Oh really? I remember no such thing occurring. Although that may be because the channel I watched it from only showed Taiwan for a few seconds...

HAH! Ireland is farrrrrr better than Canadia because we aren't some pretend country that america is just humoring.
Also our weather is very well suited for what the sports involve because it's like winter all year round here.
And finally we will win because we just are that good!
Nothing.

Oh in that case, I winder how they lost their minds.

But enough about that, Canada looks like it's on the warpath! I was watching them totally own Slovakia 15-0 in women's hockey. That was just sad. :P

You idiot. If you actually knew anything about Canada, you'd know that we used to be a British colony, and we have never been a part of the USA. Therefore, Britain said we're a country, not America, and they technically don't have any political influence over us.

Hmm and I suppose you also believe that Britain is a country as well.

EDIT
I also find it weird that you didn't point out the Blatantly obvious fact that it is almost always snowy in Canada

The current ranking:

1. France -> 2 Gold, 1 Bronze
2. USA -> 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze
3. Korea -> 1 Gold, 1 Silver
4. Netherlands, Slovakia, Switzerland -> (each one) 1 Gold
7. Canada, Germany, Norway, Poland -> (each one) 1 Silver
11. Austria, Croatia, Italy, Russian Federation -> (each one) 1 Bronze

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, where's Finland? I thought those guys are skilled enough in those winter sports to get at least one medal :|

Must have been a bit out there earlier. Maybe if you knew anything about Canada you'd know that it isn't always snowy. 5 Months of the year isn't even half. And that's quite the bold claim you have there. I can't wait to see you eat your words.
Anyways, Canada just won the bronze medal for some skating event (not sure which one it was). Sure, bronze isn't as good as gold, but you gotta start somewhere. That brings us to 1 Silver, 1 Bronze so far.
