So, there is this series of videos released on youtube called Marble Hornets, an ARG(alternate reality game) that is playing off of a fictional legend called "Slender Man" which was created by a Somethingawful forums member. Basically, Slender Man's appearance is a bald, tall, lanky man in a suit, sometimes having some sort of tentacles or branch-looking appendages sprouting out. Here are the first "sightings" of Slender Man:


Basically, the story behind this is that two guys, Alex and Jay, were working on a movie called "Marble Hornets", but as the shooting progressed, Alex was getting increasingly paranoid and his personality worsened to the point of just yelling at the actors/actresses. Eventually, Alex gives all of the footage shot for Marble Hornets to Jay, telling him to "never show it to him(Alex) again", and shortly after moves away to an unknown location. From that point, Jay(under the Youtube SN "MarbleHornets") has been posting up videos of strange things he found in the footages given to him, as well as footage of himself attempting to investigate exactly what was wrong with Alex, etc. You'll soon find out that some of these footages have things like distorted sound and video cutting that make things a bit more mysterious and eerie.

A lot of these have been genuinely creepy and well done, and are well worth watching through. To add to the creepiness, another mysterious user with the SN "totheark" started posting video responses to some of the video entries by Jay, that have mysterious codes and audio that was previously distorted in some of Jay's entries.

Watched up to number 19 so far. I think I may have shed my skin in fright. These guys put Hollywood's best and brightest scarers to shame.

Yay, another SlenderFan! I've been following since November or so, and I still get the occasional Slenderman nightmare. I think it's because Jay has an uncanny knack for only uploading new videos on nights that my fiancé is out of town.

Any ideas what the deal with To The Ark is? Friend, foe, Slender Cultist? Is he the same person as the Masked Man?

Odds are, the masked man IS totheark. Interesting note, ARK is Alex's initials. Whether that holds any real meaning right now is unknown, but it's very possible that Alex is Masky(based on the Addition video). His video responses have all the missing sound clips from the video entries that Jay has been uploading.

If I weren't such a sucker for horror stuff, I would be all over this. I could stand the Cloverfield ARG, but I don't know how I would react with these.

Better leave it at that for the time being.

I DID read Jay's twitter ('cos it's all text and no pics or vids, probably), and it's quite convincing.
