I'd say Xp since there are still bugs in it and yes not all programs work on it.
But Vista is lot faster than XP My mate has it and everything take less than 10 seconds to install and less than 5 to play

CR has no opinions on tech because CR is woefully ignorant.

You play games. Get XP. That's all there is to it. The only games that you need Vista to play are Shadowrun and Halo 2, afaik... and both of those can be cracked.

Nobody should upgrade to Vista until the first service pack is released, and even then maybe not.

All the important things in Vista are behind the scenes and of no use to the average gamer dipshit.

Mac OS X

;D Easy to understand, easy to use, instead of the task bar getting jammed, THERE ISN'T ONE! You just push the button in on the side of the mouse and it all zooms out so you can click another program!

Useful for someone who does alot of things at once. (I write like, 3 stories, type on the net AND have itunes up at once.)

Plus you could then get duel system, so you have windows for games. That's what I have.

If you're a hardcore gamer, get XP, a lot of games currently have some problems with Vista, however, these problems will be fixed in updates.

Your pick.

Dual booting doesn't work that way. You have two concurrent installations and switch with a bootloader like GRUB or even Windows Boot Manager. Apple has Boot Camp.

So it's not a matter of installing one on top of the other; you'll just screw everything up that way.

There's also absolutely no reason to have XP and Vista installed concurrently. Go with XP and don't even think about Vista until the first service pack. This is what will fit your purpose.

You can put either operating system on whatever machine you get, unless the specs are below the lower bounds of Vista (and in that case you don't want it anyway).

NAH, Zudda's right. It is quite useless untill they make it possible to actually run stuff on it.

XP for sure, Vista is just causing troubles with incompatibility with everyone that I know. Plus, the OS is slow and it's features are just a big waste of performance.
I'll wait more 1 or 2 years to rethink that. :shoe:

The laptop I bought came with Vista, and I was trying to get used to it--I'd rather have reinstalled XP on it right now, but now I'm too lazy to uninstall everything I put on it >_>

Vista's not BAD, but it's not as stable as XP was and it really is a giant resource hog--unless you have at LEAST 2 gigs of RAM, go with XP.

I'd get XP if you are a gamer. Better for computer games, and if you have a wii console the wi-fi usb connector won't work with Vista...

I currently have XP on my main rig and see no reason to "upgrade" to Vista.

Plus with all of the incompatibility issues, I'm going to wait a long while before I even considered moving on to Vista. Even then, I probably won't upgrade.

Dual booting is extremely simple, you just make a partition for the OS with the partitioner that comes with the installation disc and install it. :javado:

And dual booting both OSes have lots of good reasons. However, for your case, only get one OS.

In the end, get Vista, everyone said XP sucked and nothing worked with it when it came out, now look at it. You might as well get Vista now, because you're going to end up having to buy it anyway in the future.

It took a few years for XP to become widely accepted. Vista will take longer simply because of all the changes they've made to the OS. Vista will be a case of constipation followed by diarrhea; XP will provide the fiber necessary to ease the pain.

...Wow, what a lovely image.
I'd stick with XP until Vista's problems are fixed. You can always upgrade, after all.

Wine (as apparently that's the official caps standard) is an API layer that offers alternate implementations of windows driver libraries and processing to substitute for the Windows NT kernel. It's not something you want to rely on to play games.

Basically, it's a emulator that plays .exe's in Linux.

Usually it (The .exe) performs at 3/4 of the speed they're supposed to.

Oh lawd.

WINE is a backronym for Wine Is Not an Emulator. It's a compatibility layer. And anyway, if you want to play games, Linux is not really an option - performance will take a hit and many games won't work.

As far as compatibility goes, Vista is actually not that bad, but performance is lower than XP. How much lower depends on the computer. If you have a fairly powerful computer the difference is negligible, but with middle-class computers it would be best to stick with XP until Microsoft works out the kinks. An early prototype of Vista SP1 leaked out a few days ago, and it's already quite a bit faster.
