I only really noticed it when I got to 1,000. I don't see why we can't just have some people who boost their count and have fun. Because no one really cares about the amount of posts anyway.

Maybe YOU don't, but a lot of other people do care about post count. Also, regardless of whether you thought they were FUN or not, they still didn't belong in this forum. Also, if you think posting whatever song you're listening to or saying what CDs you've bought is FUN, then you don't know what real fun is.
In case you haven't noticed, the point of having forums is so people can communicate with one another. Not just listing things off about yourself. The purpose of forums is not to talk about yourself, the purpose is to find people that can talk about one subject with you easily. Say you want to talk about the news. You can find other people who are interested the news as well on a forum.

Granted the speed at which the BBC chat topic is updated at is a little high and thus best suited to someplace with no post count increase (thus, at least, meaning the speed is for the want of continuing the conversation), but there's no reason this forum can't have the same sort of topics.
A forum is for people to chat, not to post one liners, etc. for no reason. If you can't have fun here without those topics, maybe you should do something else.
