For me it has to be this, when I first heard it I thought it was written just for me. :larry:
(at that time I was really sad, I'm not going to use depressed.)

Ah "Komm Susser Tod" is meant to be a rather sad song. I dont think there's meant to be many happy moments in Evangelion. I can only think of a small handful of moments where the characters weren't moping about something (and then there is that kickass scene in the movie where Asuka goes psycho-happy and takes out like, 10 autopilot winged Evas in a few minutes).

Although this song is by Simple Plan, it left a bit of an impression on me. The Trigun AMV that goes along with it is rather good, so this is enjoyable to watch (oh, it contains spoilers for the series) -

I'm contextual about music (and about smells actually), so even perfectly happy music that I associate with a sad event will make me cry if I hear it in a different setting.

This can be quite embarrassing if I smell aniseed and hear Pink Floyed at the same time.

I wanna b wiθ u, right here, for ever and ever and ever

Shiina/Shena Ringo has some really sad songs I like to listen to. But this, the refrain did it for me. It's so simple, sweet, expressive and sad at the same time. I remember listening to it for the first time on a rainy and sad day and I immediately bursted out in tears once I heard the refrain. It was like two years ago...

So sad, not depressing.

If you think that's depressing - check out the haunting Gary Jules version (on the Donnie Darko soundtrack).

The Carnival Is Over by The Seekers - this really is a very sad song, even heartbreaking.

I've heard too many depressing songs to decide. A lot of the sad songs sound really awesome, so whenever they come on the radio, I'm happy, but when I actually listen to the words...it's usually about death, depression, heartbreak, ect. Surprisingly, when I figure this out, it doesn't make me sad or depressed at all. This doesn't bode well for me...

'Sing', by the Dresden Dolls. I swear, I nearly cry when I hear this...especially if it's through headphones, for some reason.

Pretty much everything by Sarah Blasko that isn't deliberately upbeat, too.

"Can't Fight This Feeling"--REO Speedwagon. I heard this song the day after my boyfriend and I broke up in 1984; as you can well imagine, it hit me pretty hard at the time-I was 16-and I bawled nearly all the way through it. Now that the painful memory paired with this song doesn't bother me anymore and my ex is long gone from my life, the song-and video-have become solid favourites of mine. Still, it does bring a tear to my eye from time to time because it is a beautiful though very sad song.

Nice choice. I actually have that song. I've only seen the video once but it was quite sad, indeed.

Here's one of the saddest song I've heard:

The video is so heart-wrenching... :larry:

Ahhh... I don't know the name of the song.

I think it's "There is no fun in war." By the tiger lillies.

It wasn't SAD per say. It didn't have tear jerking back music or any power ballad/slow song hebejebe.

It just hit home. And I dunno why.

EDIT: But if you want a slow song that got me, "THrough Glass" By stone sour. I was at a low point last year when I heard it.

I agree with you. That song is kinda catchy and sad at the same time. It matches with Evangelion so much. :(

There's a bunch of sad songs I've heard. Like Fix You by Coldplay or Mad World by Tears for Fears ( I like the Gary Jules and Michael Andrews version better). But the most depressing song? I really can't decide. :/

A song that I heard in a video a long time ago... I think it was called "Rain", and damn it was depressing.

In recent memory, I'd say "Jovem Alcoolatra Suicida" by CPM 22 ("young suicidal alcoholic"). It's a very depressing song, (If a bit bad, compared to the band's other songs) but when I first heard it it was with a video so cheesy I kinda laugh every time I hear it XD

it's not really depressing, but because of the context I was in at the time...

U2 - Electrical Storm

I was really emotional over a certain argument I was in...and this pops up randomly on my mp3 player...

as soon as the lyric "baby don't cry" starts I start crying..blegh >_<

"Angel Disease" by Mankind is Obsolete.

Depressing? To some extent (I've heard sadder), but that is amplified by the sheer morbidity of the song...

I back up Mad World. That song is just perfectly depressing. Same for How To Save A Life.

Add to that:
On A Day Like Today by Keane - There's actually a few of their songs I'd consider in this thread, but this song seals it (even over Bedshaped).
Team Mate by Kaiser Chiefs - I'm still phyisically unable to listen to this song.
Everybody Hurts by REM - This one, fair dues it has more hopeful lyrics but it still does it.
Sand And Water by Beth Nielsen Chapman - This is just beautiful.

"Kissing You" by Des'ree, while written as a slow-dance love song, also expresses just how close to the breaking point one can be while in the heights of ecstasy. Or maybe I had heard the song at the wrong point in life - when I was getting over a really hard crush that turned into a confusing, bitter experience. It featured greatly in the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann's interpretation of "Romeo and Juliet," which though it had come out years before, I hadn't actually watched until then, and, well...

For me, at least, it's about surrender, rapture, dying and living.

Tearjerker songs... oh man, where to begin?

Most recently for me:
If You're Reading This- Every time I hear this song on the radio I get teary-eyed. Maybe partly because one of my friends is in Iraq right now =/

Remember When It Rained- This one doesn't generally make me cry, but there's something about his voice on this song that just hits me, y'know?

And not quite so recently:
The Change- The song alone is just a beautiful piece of music, but coupled with the official video Garth did for it.... I think it's the only video that always, always makes me cry.

Come to think of it, Garth's got a lot of songs that are pretty damn powerful. The video for The Dance usually gets me misty-eyed, while The River and We Shall Be Free are just flat out powerful.
