Every time I come on here, I find spam posted somewhere in the most random places. How long do you think it'll take for this stuff to slow down or hopefully stop? |

It's basically an arms race. We implemented safeguards against spambots a while back that kept them from registering, let alone posting. The new horde of them proves that people have found a way to program spambots to get past those safeguards. Unfortunately, I don't know of any new way to block them, so my only option at the moment is to smash them when they show up. I've started using mass IP bans to make it harder for them to return (it seems to be common for a single spambot to use several closely-related IP addresses), but that carries with it the risk of IP-banning a human who has the misfortune of having a similar IP address (to my knowledge, no humans have been caught in the net thus far, but it remains a risk). Of course, as luck would have it, this latest horde showed up at a time when I'm distracted by a new video game, so I'm not on as frequently as usual. |

Pfff. I think you have to try harder to find the report button. This little heck seems to be spambotting here, as well as this sneaky devil. As a moderator of another forum which has seen many attacks by adbots, I feel obligated to present this evidence. |

We've got multiple layers of anti-spambot defenses, but a few broke through today, as you noticed. It's a neverending arms race. |

Maybe, maybe not. I recall reading that one of the purposes of spambots is to boost the search rankings of whatever product/service they advertise. Less active forums are less likely to be actively moderated, meaning the posts will likely be up for longer. |

Again? Reminds me of many years ago when it was a problem and me and several other members with over 1,000 posts were deputized" to handle the attacks, with the power to 1 click delete/ban them. |
