Well, I don't like to brag (or do I :godot: ) but I've met/bumped into quite a number of celebrities in my time.

The most recent one was when the Royal Shakespeare Company came to Singapore to perform King Lear for two weeks, with Sir Ian McKellen himself in the lead role! I got tickets to watch the play, but about 2 days before that, I was down at the theatre cos my cousins were in town. Walking along the bay, who do we think we see coming out of a nearby restaurant?

McKellen, along with his entourage - two misc. managerial types, and apparently his boyfriend.

At first, I didn't notice (his beard had grown out and was shaggy for the role), then my sis pointed him out to me, and I was: "No. Effing. Way"

Unfortunately, he noticed we noticed, so he bowed his head and started walking off.

You've never seen an old man walk that fast. Ever. I grabbed my cousins and we gave chase at full run. And we still couldn't catch him! Eventually, they DID stop at the King and I banner to take pictures, but we lost our nerve and didn't care go up to them =/

And then I remembered I could use my camera phone.

DAMMIT!

Another time was I found out that members of the Lord of the Rings cast stayed at my family's apartment in Queenstown, Australia. The last time I was there, it was possible they had started filming but of course, noone had heard of LOTR then so we didn't notice anything...

Anyway, did you guys have close encounters with the glamorous kind as well?

Depends on how you define "celebrity". I've never met anyone like TV/Movie famous, but the people I've been lucky enough to meet are not super famous, but still popular.

Most recently, I went to the Wrestlefanfest at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, California last October. Myself, my family and a friend went to go see the Ring Of Honor show there (Quick aside: If you're even remotely interested in professional wrestling, you need to check out Ring Of Honor). It was an absolutely awesome show. And afterwards, some of the wrestlers hung out with the fans. They are some of the coolest people ever (aside from one Roderick Strong, but that's a different story), and I was lucky enough to get autographs and some pictures with them:

Brent Albright (AKA Gunner Scott, formerly of WWE)
"American Dragon" Bryan Danielson
"Double C" Claudio Castagnoli
Bobby Cruise (Ring Announcer)
Delirious (Warning: Extreme Dorkiness Ahead)
Chris Hero

I also got an autograph from Jay Briscoe. No picture, unfortunately, as the batteries to the digital camera died. My friend, my brother and I also talked to the President of ROH, Cary Silkin. It was pretty surreal to be talking to the dude who runs the company. Vince McMahon would never do that.

I also met voice actors Spike Spencer (Shinji in Evangelion), Crispin Freeman (Alucard in Hellsing), Chris Patton (Greed in FMA) and the musician Voltaire at a convention in July. I apologized to Chris Patton for keeping my cellphone on during a panel, Voltaire gave me an extra free CD and told me he saw my name in a Death Note.
And it's so easy when you're evil...This is the life, you see. The Devil tips his hat to me.

It depends what you consider a celebrity I guess. I've run into all sorts of people in the bar at conventions and so forth and I'll talk to bloody anyone (especially after a couple of g n' ts). I used to (years ago) work the entertainments committee at University and lived near London so used to go to gigs and signings a lot. Unfortunately I'm really not bowled over by celebs.

I think two of the thoroughly nicest people I have met (both on more than one occasion) are Julian Cope and Henry Rollins. Lovely chaps the pair of them.

I went to an Evanescence concert when she was touring around Canada. I stayed with my friends til the very end of the night so we could catch her on her way to her tour bus. We all lined up and she went along giving everyone autographs. When she got to me I got the chance to hug her~~ :edgy:

I usually don't really notice celebrities unless they have something that inspires me or gives me something to admire, and Amy Lee is one of them.

I've only met four celebrities in my life: Johnny Yong Bosch at a convention in DC(this's my most memorable encounter since he was my favorite Power Ranger back then), Trish Stratus when she visited a mall I used to frequent, and The Smokin' Gunns at a Toys R Us when I was in elementary school.

Any kind of 'celebrity' really.

I also met the voice actress for (Disney's) Mulan (can't remember her name) on a flight once.

Ugh, we don't get the benefit of cons, so that's about it, although I REALLY want to meet Keith David (his voice as Goliath always strikes me as brilliant).

I saw Stephanie Sun (popular Mandarin singer) at my school's open-house. Apparently she's an alumnus and came in incognito. Also met the World's Tallest Man (at that time) from the Indian embassy at the same open-house.

I came close to Tarja Halonen once, the rather famous president of Finland :3

Other than that, not what I remember. I've seen many international stars live on stage though. Shakira, for example >____>

The 27th I'm probably going to meet the former minister for foreign affairs of Finland when he comes to visit where I work, though. He used to work with my mom when he was the minister of Trade and Industry and my mom his first secretary (never got to meet him back then) He's an admired man in and outside politics. :D

Politicians, politicians... I know a lot about politicians thanks to a Finnish political satire show, but that doesn't mean I'm interested in politics. T_T

Oh well if *anyone* will do, then I know a whole bunch of comic book folks, although mostly Americans and Brits. That's about as famous as it gets in our house on any kind of semi-regular basis. It's amazing who you get to know at comic book conventions. I'm still honoured that I once got to chat with Will Eisner very briefly.

Well, I know the whole Yankees team...my Dad is a plumber and I go with him sometimes to the stadium. Jeter is really funny! ((OMFG...<3)) We had a barbecue one time, and half of the team came, including Rodriguez, not my favorite player. But they're really cool.

And I've met David Crowder, a Christian singer. He's really sweet, but I don't have a personal relationship or anything. I'm actually going to one of his concerts tonight!

I met the danish actor Sofie Gråbøl, who currently plays the leading role in the really awesome crime series Forbrydelsen / The Crime, that has been nominated for an Emmy. It was on a scene of an earlier film, where I worked as an extra. I met her outside the bathroom on the scene. Of all places.

I also met the danish prince Henrik, I believe it was, at a small car show. I was googling over one of the cars, and I was shoved aside by the press who followed him like a swarm of angry bees.

On top of that, I've met one of the winners from the Robinsons Expedition (that's 'survivor' in the US, right?), from before he went on there, and I've met the owner of Deadline Games.

I'm not a fan of celebrities, so I don't put anything INTO any of it, really.

Oh, and while my father's not famous, he did make something famous: the large shell at the new opera in copenhagen. He did the majority of the planning and figureing out how it could even be possible to do, not to mention actually doing the work on programming the cutter, and supervising the assemply. Afterwards, his boss took all the credit for his work.

My dad's a very intense Tibetan Buddhist, and he goes to Nepal or New York on retreats once a year.

He and my brother have met the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, last year during a large ritual festival and they both flew to Nepal to attend.

Also, this man, His Holiness, the Venerable Chokling Rinpoche regularly visits our home about once every two years when he comes to Singapore to teach.

(Rinpoches are spiritual teachers with an honorific title. They are often reincarnations of previous rinpoche incarnations. They are also allowed to marry and have children.)

On a small note, I used to chat with a girl who claims she was Brendan Fraser's niece. She sent me a photo once, of Brenden Fraser cuddling a little girl who she says was her little sister. Once, while chatting, supposedly it was Rachel Weiss who happened to be using her computer and so I chatted with her as well.

I have no idea why Rachel Weiss could possibly be using Brendan Fraser's niece's computer, unless they were using a laptop while filming. Or something.

In retrospect, I really should have kept that photo. If anything just to see if it was true that it was a private family photo and I wouldn't be able to find it on the net =/

That's a pretty hardcore story, Byakko :o

I worked at G8 2007 in Heiligendamm, Germany, met and stood next to a lot of the Heads of State, such as Stephen Harper (he smiled at me XD), Angela Merkel, GW Bush, Tony Blair, Wladimir Putin, Shinzo Abe and Nicolas Sarkozy. Their press conferences were uber cool - somebody stood up during Putin's, threw leaflets and shouted "PUTIN IS A SWINE!" in German. Putin then got up and said "Young man, calm down and hand me that piece of paper", or something along the lines of it. Was happening too fast, but it was hilarious - Putin answered it perfect German.

I also ate with the J8 people. :D

Met a handful TV people and writers, my mom's an author.

WOW. :larry: I was working with classical singers once and they were trained in Copenhagen, so I did some research. Man, that's really cool.

If you read my post above, meeting all these hyperfamous people at G8 made me realise one thing - something that'll sound tritely taken from some kind of kids cartoon - even famous people only walk on two legs and struggle with costiveness every once in a while. Now while you're hopefully trying to forget the awkward analogy (XD), having direct access to celebrities.. well, while of course it's pretty cool to meet them, they're not superhumans. But of course you can really admire someone for their work.
