Answer this, why is there such a huge ginger discrimination these days? I've been wondering this for a while now.

Earlier this day, I was talking with a acquaintance about his hair color I told him it looks kind of "gingery-brown" he replied, asking if I just called him ginger. I nodded and asked if there was anything wrong with that and he hit me, only jokingly but still.

And last week, I was talking to a good friend of mine about how she recently dyed her hair black. I said it looked ginger, kidding obviously. And she got REALLY touchy about it. She was really pissed and I've never seen her so angry in the 3 years I've known her. Naturally, this suprised me and once again I asked if being ginger is a bad thing. She made a lot of threats and was bitter to me throughout the day.

Now I'm not ginger and don't ever plan to be but I'm very confused why people act so different towards them. I know they are in the minority but it's still weird... Almost all of the ginger girls I have met are pretty and, ironically, have nice hair, I'd go as far to say they are attractive. And also, they don't even act like it's mean how people discriminate them. As if it's right.

Now I want your thoughts, if you yourself are ginger then tell us and perhaps how it has affected your life. I have a feeling some people on CR do discriminate them too, you should tell is if you do.

(Oh and ginger is orange hair. LIKE THE BLEACH MAN!)

No idea. Don't understand it. I think my boyfriend would be even happier if I was ginger as his pin up is Gillian Anderson in X-Files. He's on record as perferring redheads.

And one of my first real boyfriends was a proper redhead with freckles and greeney blue eyes and everything. God I thought he was gorgeous.

I know of this, but I don't really understand it either. I actually like freckles and red hair, on both genders.

my mum had bright red ginger hair, always got teased for it at school. She kinda happy now its lighter (ginger hair doesnt grey as fast) becuase she can wear red shirts.

Plus ginger hair is awesome., i always give people the evils when they insult ginger hair.

Alright I guess I'm probably the only redhead here, lol.
But I've never been called Ginger before, strangely enough. But I think I wouldn't be as insulted as I am when people assume I'm easy or pissed off all the time. Well I probably am pissed off a lot, especially when people make assumptions lol.

So I'm the only one coming from an environment where nobody teased them?

Granted, we had better things to do. Such as beat ourselves up over a ball, in order to seemingly carry it towards a goal. With no time outs ('cause time outs were the devil and we only had like 15 minutes for a game).

Actually, I've died mine red before and had quite the amount of hair. Not a very nice hairstyle let me add but who didn't look retarded at one point in their youth. Same day I wore a red shirt, and got teased like hell. Comparison with some cartoon figure apparently, and no, not Angela Anaconda.

I'm a Celt. Not a ginger. I hate that word. Plus, if the word ginger really has to do with orange, my hair is naturally red. Not orange. I have very few freckles, and I actually can get a tan, though I'm 3/4 Celt. Basically, the word "ginger" has turned into some sort of racist term. People argue with me when I say that, but it was in the history books not even a whole 20 years ago. The Celts were a separate race, though now, we seem to be considered Caucasian. I agree, some Celts look extremely gross. But that's in every race and nationality. There's gross-looking people from everywhere.

If you disagree that it's offensive, then tell me why people who aren't even a single percent Celtic are offended by it.

Also, you have to look at it for what it really is. Before St. Patrick came along, we were raping, killing, and stealing from the Anglo-Saxons, one of the most dominant populations in history, just for fun. We bullied the champions. I guess that if you look closely, it still happens. I sort of bully around the football-playing rednecks for fun. They get on my nerves. Just saying that if the other races want to get into a superiority contest, they might want to just settle for every man (and woman) being equal. That's what I try to live by. Racist terms should only be used when kidding around or using them for a completely different meaning.

Well, I know over here in England at least being ginger is considered one of the worst things to be, looks wise and it seem person wise. People will hate you for it in my experience- it's seen as ugly and disgusting looking by a lot of people in my class. Or at least that's what they say- it's probably more about the fact that you're supposed to hate it as opposed to any actual opinion on it, I think.

As to why the hell this opinion exists, I have no idea. It's just stupid. I got a lot of teasing at one point because after I dyed my hair bright red it faded to a gingerish brown (it was quite nice, actually.) and dying your hair ginger is basically social suicide XD

I don't like the word ginger either, I know it's only a word describing a colour but since it's become an insult I don't like to use it.

I don't have any friends with red hair but it runs in our family, I've got dark hair but my skin never tans and I've got lots a freckles. People who pick the redheads are very immature.

Redheads are the sex ^~

I don't mind ginger people, they're just the same as anyone else really. And appearance has no real effect on personality anyway (although you could say that personality has effect on appearance). Now, the only thing that slightly unnerves me is when eyelashes are light ginger or any other pale colour. I wouldn't discriminate against anyone because of it, but I do find it a little strange.
