In a somewhat monumental (and baffling) ruling League of Legends has been officially deemed a professional sport by the United States of America.

It is now possible to get working Visa's for the 'sport'.
So uh....I guess I'll..just...go 'train'.

Old news, and you'll need to get past ME to get that visa.

Never played LoL, but hasn't it gotten a bit of a bad rap due to this whole Justin Carter nonsense?

Yeah... I'm not sure why LoL was associated with that story, considering the comment that got him in trouble was on Facebook.

Besides, he's just one guy, and the LoL community has always been kind of... notorious ^^"

I think the comment came about because of a game he was playing with friends on LoL.

Either way, one stupid comment that was obviously sarcastic shouldn't have to send a guy to jail for 10 years and make his bail five times that of a murderer. This is why Texas is one of the worst states in America. I wonder what would happen if they ever seceded from the U.S. and became their own independent country. :beef:

I don't think LoL itself was picked on by the media that much, though. However I think it did get some publicity because of the incident.

On his Facebook page, he was having a dispute regarding League of Legends when someone called him mentally ill. This is what he posted.

Quote:
"I'm f---ed in the head alright. I think I'ma [sic] shoot up a kindergarten and watch the blood of the innocent rain down and eat the beating heart of one of them. JK. LOL."

Because of this, someone reported him and the police later showed up at his door, confiscated his electronics, and arrested him. His bail was $500,000 which is around five times that of a murderer on trial. His bail was later paid by an anonymous donator, but he faces 10 years in prison. While he was arrested, the inmates at the jail constantly taunted and bullied him to the point where he was put on suicide watch. Oh, and he never had a criminal record before either and he's only 19. So yeah, if he does get convicted; he could be in jail until he's about 30. He spent his 19th birthday behind bars.

Is this comment stupid and offensive? Sure it is. But does that mean we can arrest people just for saying whatever they want? I've seen far worse comments on a YouTube video. Why aren't those people getting arrested? Of course, this can only happen in the lovely state of Texas. :yuusaku:
