I do love Link from the Zelda games! While we rarely see any expression on his face, and he really never talks. He does seem like a flat character, and his cloths aren't the most stylish, Okay.. so maybe he isn't the best choice but I do love the games.

How about Geno from SMRPG, I always thought he deserved his own game.

I never thought I'd see someone else who likes Omitsu - most people are apathetic. Goemon's actually my most favored in that series, but Ebisumaru and Omitsu come close. (I must be a weirdo for liking them over Sasuke and Yae.)

Heather Mason (from Silent Hill 3) and Ema Skye (from Ace Attorney 1 & 4) will always be my tip-top favorites for more reasons than I could ever write down. <3

Although I do have soft spots for Apollo and Godot too.

Sissel from Ghost Tricks, and also Lynne
Spoiler:
some of her deaths were hilarious
...actually most of the characters from that game are awesome including one little doggy.

From the Ace Attorney series there are also many, but if I limit myself to three then... :phoenix: (and that includes :hobohodo:) :godot: :sassy:

From 999 I <3 Snake

and from VLR it'd be Luna, though I feel like I got robbed in that game because I really wanted

Ace Attorney:

Phoenix Wright- He has incredible faith in the people he loves.
Maya Fey- She has incredible emotional endurance even after so many of her family members either die or are put in jail.

Kid Icarus:

Pit
Palutena- I was surprised at how funny she would be. She's also really pretty!
Spoiler:
Hades- This guy is just flat-out hilarious! One of the funniest main villains I've seen in a video game!

Pandora- She's an agent of chaos!

Fire Emblem Awakening:

My Unit/ Robin
Chrom
Lissa- She's cute, but she sure knows how to kick butt!
Stahl- I can probably relate to him the most. He loves helping people and doesn't expect a reward in return. Also he loves eating and sleeping.
Marth/
Spoiler:
Lucina

Morgan
Cervantes- Beware his facial hair!

Mega Man:

Mega Man (Classic)- At least he doesn't whine about his mission like a certain OTHER blue bomber *coughXcough*
Zero
Mega Man Volnutt- The most human of all the Mega Men.
Roll Caskett- My favorite version of Roll.
Tron Bonne- She's a criminal, but you can't help but feel sorry for her and her struggling family of pirates.

Tales of the Abyss - Luke
He starts of a total jerk and has this brutal honesty that is really hard to come by these days, I really like it the way he just says his mind about things and doesn't care if it sounds mean. He does incredibly annoying around the Deo Pass, but that's because we're supposed to hate him at that point.... considering what comes afterwards.
But, I never blamed him for that.
And afterwards, he really changes and matures throughout the story, he tries to make up for his mistakes, tries to learn. I still think it's rather rare for a protagonist to go through a lot of character development and Luke had a ton of it.

Actually, I love all the protagonists in Tales of the Abyss - except maybe for Tear. But that's because I think she's a Canon Sue character and I fail to see how people think any romance in that game is genuine, when it involves Luke and Tear. Natalia and Asch, yes, they are genuine.

Tales of Symphonia - Kratos
He is so awesome!
His design, his voice (Fumihiko Tachiki) practically everything about him is awesome. He quickly became my favorite character, I generally want his route in the game (aside from maybe Shihna's) and I am always giddy when he appears on screen, with or without his theme music!

Skyward Sword - Ghirahim
Giddy when he appears, I love his design, Anri Katsu providing the voice. And Ghirahim is like a combination of my sado-masochistic fetishes! Plus, his theme song is really smooth.

Neku Sakuraba from TheWorldEndswithYou is by far my favorite videogame character. He sees society in the same way I do and learns the lessons in life that I have to learn.

Also Zack Fair and Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII because they're both very interesting and contrasting characters to me with pretty cool backstories.

And I also of course like Phoenix Wright for being just an average guy with good intentions.

Spoiler: Kreia, Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
Kreia from Knights of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. She's a superb villain with amazing voice acting and surprisingly simple design. At first glance, she's a blind old woman, but you quickly realize that there's much, MUCH more to her than meets the eye. She's a powerful force user, who has been both jedi and sith, and now walks some kind of middle path - or does she? She's constantly ambiguous and cryptic, so you never know what she thinks, feels or what her motives are. She barely talks to anyone other than the protagonist, but when she does, it's mainly to manipulate them into helping the Exile (the protagonist).

She ends up more or less betraying you, although she's constantly told you not to trust anyone, especially her. Since the game was rushed out, the epic finale doesn't have as much of an impact as it should with a great character as her, but it's still great.

I don't know if she stands out partially because of the weak support cast. As opposed to Knights of the Old Republic, the support characters this time around don't really feel like they have a clear objective other than being trained to become jedi. They also offer cryptic and vague responses to every question, but without any of Kreia's depth, and they just come across as whiny and boring. Of course, this doesn't apply to the amazing HK-47. Canderous is as straight-forward as always, but he also suffers from the "why-are-you-even-here" syndrome, even though he's got a clear subplot going for him: he wants to reunite the Mandalorian clans. However, that is an incredibly minor part of the game and it doesn't even affect the ending in the slightest.

Lucina from Fire Emblem: Awakening. I never would've guessed I could be so impressed by a video game like that. I just picked it up because I had heard it was supposed to be good, and before I knew it I was playing it nonstop. A warrior princess from a Japanese game that isn't sexualized? You know the game's got something going for it if that's the case.

Spoiler: Lucina, Fire Emblem: Awakening
Lucina is the stern but kind-hearted future daughter of Chrom who goes back in time to stop the world from getting destroyed. This sounds incredibly cliché, and while the main story isn't anything mindblowing, it's done incredibly well. Lucina is an amazing fighter and good at very little else - something she's very aware of. This causes her support conversations (conversations between two characters outside of fights that are there to serve as comic relief, character development and bonding and so on) to revolve mainly around trying to improve in the most bizarre ways possible with unflinching determination. The two sides of Lucina, the badass warrior princess and the socially awkward beautiful woman who can't tell/understand a joke to save her life are written beautifully, co-existing in a way that feels perfectly natural and realistic. This feat is made even more impressive when you remember that there are over 40 recruitable characters in he game, all who have distinct looks and personality. Although not all are as deep as Lucina, they are for the most part incredibly likeable, and they all have quirks, skills, dreams etc in their own support conversations, just like Lucina.

I'll probably continue later, right now I'm starving!

Hmm... Well, aside from Ace Attorney characters...

-Alvin (Tales of Xillia) - Alvin is definitely my favorite character from a Tales game, and possibly from any game ever. His design is great (I didn't think anyone could make a scarf like his look cool), he's got some great dialogue, he has one of the most useful link assists in the game, his character development was fantastic, and Matt Mercer did a phenomenal job as his voice actor. Plus... there's that scene. If you've played Tales of Xillia, you know which scene I'm talking about.

-Hubert Oswell (Tales of Graces f) - While Alvin is my favorite Tales character, Hubert makes a close second. His character arc is very Edgeworthian, at least in terms of how his personality develops. Plus, aside from Asbel, he was probably the most useful attacker in the party, at least for me.

-Garry (Ib) - Garry essentially acts like a really caring, protective older brother to Ib, and when you're in an art gallery that's out to get you, someone who's as kind as Garry quickly becomes one of your favorites (well, at least for me he did).

-Joshua (The World Ends With You) - Oh Josh... You're so weird. I have to say, out of the three partners, Joshua had the most entertaining moments (but Shiki mending Neku's pants comes pretty close). Also, I really like his card mechanic - not based on chance but also not requiring crazy focus for it. I can't really say much else without spoiling a good portion of the game, though, so...

-The Prince (Prince of Persia (2008)) - Oddly enough, I was one of the people who really liked the 2008 reboot of Prince of Persia, and this guy is one of the major reasons for doing so. I love all of the banter between him and Elika throughout the game, and I definitely like this Prince's laid-back attitude as opposed to the Prince from the Sands of Time games (which are still great, don't get me wrong). The part that cemented his place among my favorite characters, though, would have to be the ending. I know a lot of people don't like that ending, but I personally appreciate what it says about the Prince's character.

-Missile (Ghost Trick) - Yeah, if you've played Ghost Trick, you know all about Missile. His dialogue is some of the funniest in the game, his abilities can be quite useful, and he's really loyal to Lynne and Kamila. Really, really loyal.

-Squirps (Super Paper Mario) - This one's quite an obscure choice, but I really do like Squirps. His personality and dialogue in the game was downright adorable, and whenever you find out about his past, it's... kind of sad, really. I'm surprised how strong he is since he's able to keep a cheerful attitude.

Top 3 Male and Female Non Ace-Attorney Characters:

Male:

Hershel Layton (Professor Layton)- Honestly, how can you not like or respect this great gentleman? He's kind, intelligent, compassionate and refined without ever coming across as one-dimensional or perfect; an absolutely marvelous man. He was actually the inspiration for my handle, to tell you the truth :phoenix:

Neku Sakuraba (The World Ends With You)- When we are first introduced to him he comes across as an unlikable emo wh seems to distrust and dislike the world and everyone in it. However, once we learn his backstory (or some of it anyways)- that he's a kid who's undergone great personal tragedy and has chosen to distance himself from others as a result- he became a lot more sympathetic. This combined with his gradual character development into a loyal and respectful human being makes him absolutely memorable in my books.

Kyle Hyde (Hotel Dusk)- Kyle's clearly got a chip on his shoulder; irresponsible, half-assing his job regularly and taking to drinking on a regular basis, he's no role model. Yet, he's not a complete wreck; he does care about others and is not indifferent to others' problems, he's determined and refuses to give up on something he's started, and he can be charming when he wants to be. He's an intriguing, complex and an overall quite human character, and one that I wish I got more of a chance to see.

Female:

Naoto Shirogane (Persona 4)- Honestly, I just love her character: she's intelligent, charming, modest, and compassionate, yet she's also shy, sometimes TOO straight to the point, and more then a little insecure in her identity as a woman. She's complex and intriguing, the sort of girl you WANT to get to know more about, and is always THE girl (I refuse to be a playboy, even in video games) I end up dating in the game; as such, I couldn't help but put her on this list.

Midna (The Legend of Zelda)- When we first meet Midna, I wasn't quite sure I could trust her; she was mischevious, slightly sadistic and indifferent to the plight of the Hyrulians, only helping Link for her own purposes. However her growth as a character into someone who grows to care about Link, Zelda and Hyrule as much as her own people made the story of Twilight Princess one that stood out, and she truly made this game worth playing for me.

Samus Aran (Metroid)- Talented and formidible, yet human and caring; Samus comes across as neither an inhuman killer or your sterotypical idealistic female lead. You can tell she hunts with a purpose and is clearly not against killing and destroying on the orders of her higher-ups; yet she has a conscious and makes decisions that clearly pit her against the Federation at times (such as in Metroid Fusion). Sure, she's a silent protagonist, but one that is completely unforgettable in my books.

---

...and that's it. There are more characters that I could mention that DESERVE to be up here, but that would take too much time and these are the characters that sprung to mind first and foremost. Hope some of you can agree :trucy:
"No one can change the past. The only thing we can do is strive to make up for our mistakes. Why must we make up for our mistakes, you ask? Because in so doing... we can find the way back to our path. And once we've found our path, we can move on from our past mistakes toward a brighter future."- Phoenix Wright

Quick question: why do people like Cordelia that much? She kicks ass, and I don't hate her, but her character revolves mainly around unrequited love, which makes every pairing feel awkward due to the dialogue. Other than that she's pretty bland.
