Really? Interesting. Now I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not, having the option would have been nice, oh well. I always read the "voices" in 999 in English, so to me they seemed English/American.
Its certainly better than not getting the game at all though - and getting a Vita JUST for English voices seems ridiculous imo. Muramasa had Japanese voices only and it was fine.
To recreate 999 I might just turn the voices off if theres an option.
Is the text translation RSG are using the same?

The boxart looks like the real deal, so I guess it's 16+ rating after all. This looks way too elaborate to be a fake.
Though I'm surprised there's still the 'Zero Escape' logo on it... They did yank it from the title after all.

And yeah for Japanese only voices... I'm really glad it's not the other way around, as I don't really like reading English while having an english sub over them. I read much faster than those actors say the lines, so it sort of bothers me when it's in English.

If its 16+ then fair enough, if it was censored in any way (which sounds unlikely) we'd know about it...
Yeah I agree, I wouldnt want just English voices either. Maybe the lack of English voices is because of licensing issues/money.

So in the English intro/trailer, in the word salad, they have "myrmidons"... which I don't remember at all .__. Akolto, any idea what that refers to? (If not, I guess I'll just have to wait until the English version comes out...)

EDIT: About the EU version only having Japanese voices... If the English demo is anything to go by, I'd say that's for the best xP btw, is it just me, or is the text speed reeeeeeeeally slow in the demo? o.O

I just listened to some of the voices on the VLR site, and in some (eg Quark, Phi, Zero 3) I prefer the Japanese voices :D
OK its a shame the EU version doesnt have dual audio, but I REALLY want to play this, and some people on GAF are saying theyre getting a Vita for the English audio, or considering not even getting it which sounds madness IMO. I dont want to miss out on an amazing story.
I'd probably be more annoyed if it only had English audio TBH. The fact we in the UK are getting the game at all is something.

99.9% sure that wasn't in the original trailer. But I googled Myrmidons anyway.

They are the warriors of Achilles from Homer's Illiad.

I don't know where the hell that comes in.

According to RSG's twitter:

Quote:
We licensed Virtue's Last Reward directly from the Japanese developer, Chunsoft, and decided to retain the authentic original voices only

Maybe that solves that question. So they licensed it from Chunsoft but are using Aksys' localisation for the subtitles?

I knew what the Myrmidons were, but I had no idea where they were mentioned in the game...

Hmm... Maybe it's what they chose to rename
Spoiler:
Claydolls or Free the Soul
? Not sure why they would change that name, but... I guess we'll see when the English version comes out.

Going back through the two openings

Spoiler:
It seems that they replaced Clay Dolls with Myrmidons. That doesn't really make any sense though. I wonder if they plan on changing the Golem thing as well, since that wouldn't fit with Myrmidons.

I don't see what was wrong with Clay Dolls.

Spoiler:
Aww, lame. I loved that it was called "Clay Dolls", because a golem is a giant clay doll xD

In the English version, "GAULEM" is "General-purpose Autonomous-Control Labor Electronic Machine" which is... er, "GACLEM".

Maybe they came up with some clever English pun to replace the Japanese 506/golem one, and... er... it made them change the company name to Myrmidons for it to fit... or something...........

Well, it seems they changed "Clay Dolls" to "Myrmidons", but we'll have to wait for the actual English release to find out why.

EDIT: Oh, also, Akolto...
Spoiler: big VLR spoilers
On GameFAQS (IIRC), someone said that "Grapedoll" (the password for Akane's computer account) was a reference to something in the Japanese version of 999 that was localized out in the English version... Do you know what it was?

And that would still fit.

The name of Akane's doll that Junpei gave her was Budō (As in 'Grape'), because he misheard the person who sold it to him, when it was really a VOODOO doll. Therefore Grapedoll. They'll probably change it to Junesdoll in the English version, that way it's still 9 characters.

If you play in Japanese with English subtitles will the text in the boxes be the same as those shots on the site, or do the subs translate differently? (I'm thinking of when I get the UK version), maybe no one knows yet.

Wow, during yesterday's Nintendo Direct they had a large section where they showed VLR and also mentioned 999.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDDg3zap ... ge#t=1410s

Nintendo of Europe is really pushing that game (considering it's a niche game), the trailer is also online on the eShop and we will get a 3DS demo.

The EU trailer looks very similar to the first Japanese trailer - strange that:

Spoiler:
Ice-9 comes up in the word salad. Also the translation used is the one in the very first video I saw - not the one with "Corrected/Updated" subtitles.... in some ways I preferred the 2nd ones... so instead of saying "They might as well just die..." it said "If only we could all... trust each other", I guess the 1st translation is darker

I don't know I'm afraid. Strange...
What I'm confused about is whether the subtitles will use Aksys' localisation (I think they said they would) or be a literal translation.. I wonder how accurate the EU trailer is as the words seem very similar to how the Japanese was translated in the 1st Youtube video (with the 1st set of subtitles).
Also its interesting that no Japanese VA is featured in the EU trailer despite the fact the game will feature Japanese voices.
Doesnt Phi's "Why did I know that?" sound similar to 999's "Why do I... know?" line?

The EU trailer is identical to the US trailer from the vita demo (apart from the RSG sign at the beginning and the photo of the EU box of course).

Well, I have to admit, I was squeeling like a little girl when I saw the VLR trailer during the Nintendo Direct presentation yesterday.
I was really hoping they would, yet I was still surprised nonetheless. I really hope this will lead even more people to learn about the game, and that it'll really help with the sales.

And that 'spoiler' in the trailer is just lolastic. I wonder why the put it there in the first place... and why the kept it in this trailer too.

There aren't really any direct spoilers in the first trailer. There's a huge one that they randomly throw in at the end of the second one for seemingly no reason, but not the first one.

There are some things that if you pay really close attention and analyze multiple different parts of the trailer you might be able to figure out. And there are some images like dead people, but I don't think there is anybody that would consider the fact that characters can die in the game a spoiler. Other than that, there were scenes from near the end game thrown in there, but you wouldn't know that by looking at them.

I didnt spot any huge spoilers, they did show flashes of bad endings (it seems) and people dying etc, in the EU trailer I saw (the Nintendo Direct one).

Nope, not really. The direct translation is basically "Then everyone may as well DIE". I guess they decided to 'localize' it to "If only we could trust each other"
(...although because of the 'noni' at the end, maybe it'd really be "Even though it'd be good if everyone died"? although that doesn't actually make much sense......)

Also, in terms of spoilers in the trailers, it's basically like the 999 trailer: there are scenes that are indeed huge spoilers, but you can't tell that they are without context. ...Except for a certain scene at the end of the 2nd trailer, which is both a huge spoiler and exactly what it looks like.

Yeah you're right BP, I guess the 999 trailer did contain huge spoilers when you look back, but when I first saw I couldnt tell if they were spoilers.
I hope VLR does well over here, which increases the chances of a 3rd game coming to the US and Europe (apparently, development has begun on that one).

(Don't know anything about the game, so not sure about the context)

Actually it can. Notice that it says しんじ_ぁ_えばいいのに and not しんじ_ゃ_えばいいのに. So it can be both 信じ合えばいいのに (if only everybody could trust each other) and 死んじゃえばいいのに (if only everybody would just die). Pronuncation-wise.

Oh snap, you're right. The fact that it was ぁ instead of ゃ actually had me really confused when the trailer first came out. (I think I asked, like, half a dozen people about it.) Eventually, I just figured that it was them being idiosyncratic or something and settled for it being 死んじゃえば, but I never thought of it as being 信じ合えば. That's really neat. Thanks!

One of the posts in this thread linked to audio samples that compared the audio in the Japanese 3DS demo to the audio in the Japanese Vita demo. (there is no English 3DS demo yet, if ever) Let's see if I can find it...

EDIT: I can't find it... and Google isn't helping. Ah well.
Point is, the 3DS demo's audio sounded moderately compressed, while the Vita demo sounded clear. Can you tell if the final 3DS version has clear audio or not?

But I think that the 3DS demo is still up on the JP E-shop.

Heh, downloaded a lot quicker than I expected xP

Anyway, the demo and the actual game sound pretty much the same to me. Maybe the music is a bit better in the real game, but... I couldn't tell a difference between the sfx or voices.

But I've never heard the Vita version, and it's kind of hard to compare the demo and real game (since I have to listen to a chunk of one, rather than comparing line by line, plus there's the time it takes to close one and start the other). It really all sounds fine to me.

If you can get me samples comparing the 3DS demo version to some other version so I can hear exactly what everyone is complaining/worried about I think I can give a much more definitive answer, tho. I'm not really 100% sure what I was supposed to be listening for. (I saw the guy say it was "tinny" on neogaf, but...)

The 3DS version supposedly has compressed audio. But I think if you're exclusively playing the 3DS version you probably won't even care/notice.

But people (Like me) going from the Vita version to the 3DS version might notice.

Hum... I doubt you would, unless the compression was really bad, you played the Vita version just before playing the 3DS one, or you tried to compare both at the same time. :phoenix:
