Hey,
According to a GAF post, only the novel parts on VLR are fully voiced (maybe there are cutscenes as well?)
The "escape" parts have bleeps and blips, just like in 999. So in those parts I'll be imagining what they sound like in English I guess :D

Um... yup. If you check out videos of the demo (even the Japanese ones that have been there for a while xP) you can see that.

There are 'cutscenes', but they're usually only a few seconds long and don't have anybody saying anything xP

There's hardly any talking in the Escape rooms outside of easy mode anyway.

In 999 they did come out with some funny dialogue in the escape rooms though :D

It's actually been known for month, this is nothing new, really... though as Akolto said, it hardly matter anyway, there's very little dialogue during the escape scenes anyway :jake:

I really wish my local Amazon would just go and put VLR up for pre-order already. They don't even have a product page for it :igarashi:
Funny how they actually have a page for Kid Icarus Uprising for Wii U, but not for VLR, which has already been announcedd months ago, and was even showcased during the latest Nintendo Direct :grossburg:

So, only 10 days until this game hits stores. Are you excited? I'm excited! /obligitory Refrence.

Do you think this week's website update will come with both Zero III's profile and Clover's profile, since it's the final one before release?
Also, it seems like Aksys was teasing the promo anime "later this week" a few days ago. They are still localizing the anime, right? Even if... Yeah.
Oh god where are my legs

Not only that, but the last section and many subsections of the media section are still missing as well.

They should already have finished the dubbing of the promo a long time ago.

It'd be cool if they did like the game itself, and actually had an officially subbed version with the original VA.... or I could go and watch some of the fan translated versions out there :p

It doesn't matter/count for you, though xP

Spoiler: minor/vague VLR spoilers
btw, akolto, tell me what they do for 506's name/pun. I'm pretty interested in how they localize it xP

Also lemme know if they ever give any reason for "Myrmidons"

Oddly my delivery estimate is October 29 (or Monday after release) even though I have 2 day shipping on it due to Amazon Prime (which on preorders means it should arrive the day of release). Even though I pre-ordered it way back in April.

Either the date is off on the estimate or they have a huge number of people on preorder. Or the preorder special edition comes out slightly later for some reason.

I guess I'll see next week.

Yeah, that's what mine says too. But that can't be right.
Especially since there are some people saying theirs is saying it will arrive today.
Amazon probably just borked the release date. Especially since on the game's page it says the release date is September 1st.

Spoiler: Bad Player
I can't even remember where 506 comes up at. It's not Alice's Route, is it? It's been a while.

Because they'll probably change it beyond recognition.

506's scene is after you do the Gaulem Room with (IIRC) Alice and Luna. So... erm........ could it have been Luna's route?

Either way, once you reach the Gaulem Room you know 506's scene is when you finish it xP

Right, I knew it had to be one route with Luna and Alice, I just forgot which one.

I'm probably going for the Tenmyouji/Quark/Clover routes first, so it will probably be a while before I get to Luna's route.

Now you can preorder Virtue's Last Reward on Amazon.de, but currently it says release date 25th January 2013. They also claim the ingame texts would be in German, so maybe we get a translated version here after all?

I fear that's the case. I have nothing against a German translation, but I'm against it if that means that I'll have to wait two more months to get it. Especially when I planned to play the English version anyway since I don't think a German version will be able to meet my expectations. I hope you can choose to play in English, but it still pisses me off that I now have to wait until next year to play it. Not having a credit card, I also can't import the game from Amazon UK. Good job, whoever is responsible for this.
My only hope is to import it from ebay UK or something like that but I still have to wait either way. :(

Maybe Amazon.de will also offer the UK version. Quite often they have the GER, AUT, UK and sometimes even US versions of games available.

I think overall a German version will help VLR to sell better in Germany, because there are quite some people who prefer such story heavy games to be in German.

Found this post on NeoGAF from Aksys - if I play with the Japanese voice cast (well, I'll have to) are the subtitles the same as the US dub?

Quote:
That's a little hard to quantify. Most of the "technical" or scientific terms they use don't differ a whole lot because they're referring to established concepts that have terms in English (or sometimes they're just using the English term in Japanese.) There are a few game-specific terms and names that we changed for several different reasons, such as: They sound silly in English, they rely on sounds/wordplay that doesn't work in English, they tie into the plot in ways that won't work (in English) unless we change them, etc. The stuff that diverges the most is probably the jokes, which frequently just don't translate at all. There's one, for instance, that revolves around confusing a train pass with a watermelon (yes) that I had to completely re-write because the direct translation was utterly nonsensical. Most of the major divergences are going to be for that reason. Others are minor things like not using names in lines (Japanese writers like to have characters refer to each other by name all the time, but it sounds hella awkward in English), or shuffling the order of information in a set of lines around a bit so it feels better in English.

Anyway, man, I missed all the jokes, it seems ;_; Either because I never saw the actual conversation (cuz of doing things on hard mode?) or because they all went over my head >_>

Ah, Japanese. The way words can be easily confused continues to amuse me, especially when alternate meanings for the same (or similar) pronunciation are so different.

Makes me wonder if they bothered to develop something during WWII to reduce potential confusion over radios, like how the US military uses words for numbers and letters.

The way I understand the manual hard mode only disables the hints you get, when you constantly fail and quit the minigames/puzzles.

E.g. in the demo level on hard you wouldn't get any hints from Phi, when you fail to imput the code, but you would still have the conversation with her about the poster.

I didn't get a lot of the jokes, since I'm not exactly fluent in Japanese.

I've only been studying Japanese for 2 1/2 years, but I've been studying Mandarin for going on 6 years, so that's kind of helpful. But it's also a little detrimental, because I always mix up the pronunciations of the Kanji and Hanzi.

Edit: BP, maybe you understood the last route a little better than I did, though. Because you're probably better at Japanese than I am. (I kind of just import games to help me learn Japanese, since I don't take as regular of classes for it as I do Mandarin)
Spoiler:
But for me, Phi's route near the end was like:

Quantum Mechanics!

And then I was like:

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON

Edit2: Oh man...
Spoiler: Pretty huge end game nasty spoiler
I was playing Phi's Ending between classes today to try and see if I could understand it any better, and I think I completely misinterpreted everything the first time. Wooow. I feel really stupid.
But I'm still confused on whether K is Sigma Klim or if the protagonist is Sigma Klim.

Strange, it says 'Koch media' is the publisher, it doesn't make any sense... Oh, and the price seems really low for some reason. Besides, the latest Nintendo Direct had the november release date, I doubt they'd take the decision to have a German localisation afterwards.

Personally, my local Amazon still doesn't have the game up for pre-order, even though the release date is less than a month away. I really hope it won't be in January, as whoever decided this is a Class A m*ron : / (Though I supposed it would help sales a bit, having it translated).

Anyway, just gonna pre-order on Amazon.co.uk just in case, especially since I have zero interest in playing the game entirely in French, and having to wait 2 months for that, no thank you very much kthxbb o_O

That reminds me of the Wii U version of Epic Mickey 2, which apparently got delayed to Spring only in France for no apparent reason. Like, they decided to have full translation (text and voices), even though the other version will also have that. That was the 'WTF Moment of the week, last Friday o_O).

I think it'd make a lot of sense. It would mean that Koch Media bought the exclusive rights for Germany and decided to do a translation of their own. But I don't know how trustworthy amazon.de is. I found three other sellers of the German version and two listed november release dates and one listed the same date as amazon.de.

Apparently there is an embargo on the game for reviewers until the 23rd. Which I don't even understand, considering there are plenty of people who played and finished the Japanese version of the game months ago. So it's not like they have anything to hide, besides minor changes with the localization.

That's strange, I read somewhere there wasn't one.... maybe I just misread it.

But yeah, even though I don't care about reviews at all, I just can't stand those embargos. At all.
That's an absolutely despicable practice in my opinion, especially when it goes right until a few days before release.
It looks so much like the publisher is scared about people suddenly cancelling pre-ordere all of a sudden. That, or they're ashamed of the game they're publishing, which doesn't make any sense to me.

If that was true, I'd be quite disappointed by Aksys if they really went with an embargo on reviews. I'd expect better for them :gregory:
Especially since the game has already been released in Japan, and reviews readily available for someone actually interested in them.

Well... They mention Quantum Mechanics, but don't really go into it. Except maybe with Schrodinger's Cat, but I already knew about that, so ^^'

The protagonist (the guy you play as) is Sigma, who is Zero, who is not K. K is Kyle (except if you team up with Alice first), who is a clone of Sigma that Sigma made. IIR/UC (U = understood xP), the purpose of making Kyle was so that if anything happened to Sigma, Sigma's consciousness would be able to jump into Kyle's body and still be able to do the Nonary Game.

Btw, have you gotten the extra ending from beating all the rooms on hard yet? If you have, read on, otherwise... Go do it already xP

Yeah, I have no idea what went on in the "Alternative" ending. So you're in Kyle's body, and you think you're Kyle, but you're apparently not Kyle. You're some sort of "irregular" or something... You have memories from the alternate timelines...

IIR/UC, Akane says something along the lines of that giving Sigma a back-up body to jump into wasn't the only reason for creating Kyle, and the other reason has to do with this "irregular"... although I have no idea who/what/why/how/whatever it is >.<

EDIT: Oh man, I just had a thought...

I can understand them not wanting to have the game spoiled if some havent played it in English, but surely some reviews (spoiler free) would do? Sounds like theyre counting on all 999 fans buying this (I'll buy it anyway, but would still like to read a review to see if it is as good or even better than 999, etc).

Ah, okay. So I was close, but still pretty far off. :S

Akane sort of made it sound like Sigma and Kyle were twin brothers, and that Sigma was actually Kyle Klim and K (outside of the Schrödinger's Cat shenanigans) was Sigma Klim. But that just seemed weird.

But this still doesn't explain two things: What's up with Sigma's memories and why he thought he was from 2028 and looked like Kyle/like he did when he was younger, and why nobody pointed out that he looked really old. Or how he never saw his reflection, especially when he was in the Biotope. Unless there were some Schrödinger's Cat shenanigans going on there, too.

I hope this is less confusing once I actually play it in English. @_@

Spoiler: Endgame spoilers (bet you didn't see that coming!)
Yeah, I thought it was weird that he never noticed it. The part of his body that he interacted most with was his arms, but since they were fake, he could've built fake arms that looked like from when he was 22, and he wouldn't have noticed. And if he never saw a mirror or something.... (the first time he went through the Biotope, I guess he never paid much attention to his reflection in the river xP). Also, because of the moon's weakened gravity, he wouldn't necessarily notice his physical weakness.

I'm not sure why he never noticed that he was bald or had that weird eye thing, though. It's definitely a weak point in the story.

In the ERSB rating list, one of the lines it mentioned was "You must've done a lot of drugs to look like that at 22", so they're referencing it in the localization, at least xP

I feel like the fact that Sigma is actually old like this semi-explains how/why Sigma is able to carry so much authority quickly in the group so quickly (like deciding which doors to go through and what to do and what not)

I hope this is less confusing once other people actually play it in English and explain it to me @_@

Now I can't help but feel like that must have been horrifying for Phi to wake up an elevator with Sigma looking like that. Although, actually, Phi probably wouldn't care.

And Clover as well, waking up in an elevator with a giant robot man.

Spoiler:
Hmm... Phi is already awake when Sigma wakes up, so we never get to see how she reacts.

Also, Clover didn't wake up until she was out xP

I got the impression she was at least half awake before she got out.

Although, that kind of makes me wonder why the hell she took so long to wake up.

Edit:
Spoiler: Whaaaaaat
So I was scrolling through a blog that posted a bunch of screenshots of the game because I get asked about what certain rooms look like, and I can't be bothered to go back and take the screenshots myself. And then I saw this...

I guess you couldn't really tell unless you looked really closely.

I haven't played the game, but it's probably just a reference to SUICA, the IC-card of JR East (Tokyo amongst others). With SUICA also being a pun on the Japanese word for watermelon (suika). IIRC, the logo of SUICA is also designed after a watermelon.

Not to my knowledge, but I happened to run into someone in line at the grocery store, who mentioned he went to Japan once, and mentioned that one costs $20 there. And that was a rather dinky sized mellon at that.

I think I'd starve were I to visit Japan.
