Luigi is an SSBM unlockable, you can check on GameFAQs. He's just easy to get, like Jigglypuff. Having Diddy be there from the start but not Luigi would be kinda weird.
He's still the first guy, though.

Anyways, my guess is after Muchlax eats X amount of items, he evolvs and does the standard Snorlax attack.

I believe it's only so if inside that Pokéball was another Munchlax or a Snorlax. Otherwise, it's just another example of a dominant species on the food chain.
Munchlax seems like a nice item, and will help greatly against "item whores" and such. Also, the update confirms the return of the Lip's Stick item.
EDIT: It took me a liitle while to notice, but this also proves that 4th-generation Pokémon are indeed included, as up to this point we saw nothing but Pokémon from the first three generations.

Well, not every Pokémon that comes out of the Pokéball is a blessing in serious combat. Mew, Celebi, screen-blackening Togepi, kill-'em-all Electrode and Wobbufett, and Goldeen are all Pokéball Pokémon that are not all that great to release. Then again, if Munchlax eats that Super Hammer right before your opponent grabs it, you might be singing a different tune!
On a side note, this is now the second Pokémon revealed to be a Pokéball monster that many fans thought could be a PC. With Deoxys and Munchlax out of the run, it makes me wonder who will be a real PC Pokémon. My money is still on Lucario and Blaziken.

Lyn charges her sword attack then vanishes, Striking her target and sending them flying, or cause greater damage.... A good tactic they described on the site is to grab your opponent so its an easier target to hit.

If there are other Pokémon being accepted for the roster, Lucario does have a rather large chance. Not only was he one of the first 4th gen Pokémon ever revealed (along with Munchlax), but he's also one of - if not the - most popular Pokémon of the generation. Not to mention that there's an entire movie based around Lucario, as well as an in-game event (much like Mewtwo), so it's not exactly hard to miss him, either.

I dunno. I had this theory that for Pokémon Trainer, you can unlock new Pokémon that he sends out. That way, they can have a bunch of Pokémon characters, but only take up one slot in the selection screen.
There are two hints to my theory. One is that you can save information to your WiiStick and to the name above your character; if you can customize and saze your characters in great detail, would it be because you can alter some of them? Two is that Charizard's B-Forward is Rock Smash, a Fighting type move. That's not something Charizard would normally have, it's something two other Fire starter Pokémon would have, namely Blaziken and Infernape.
So I think that may be possible, to unlock the other starters and several other Pokémon (Machop, Meowth, Skitty, Buizel, Croagunk, and so on). And I don't think there's a worry about not having enough, there are almost 500 now. :)

Actually, it's kind of odd that we're getting this update so much later than stuff we didn't know anything about in comparison. I mean, first Meta Knight last Wednesday, and now the Battleship Halberd stage today; we've known about both for the longest time, and Sakurai usually doesn't reveal such important things unless there's a big Subspace Emissary update including them coming.

Doubtful. There may be another Pokemon Trainer character who uses a different set of three, but your particular theory doesn't work because there's no Fire Starter that can pull off all of Charizard's shown moves except for Charizard himself... Remember he flies, and he is the only starter to ever do so.

A second trainer? A second nameless character? Nah. I think if they'll have more minor Pokémon, they'll all stick to being under the generic Pokémon Trainer.

Except you're missing the point of the Pokémon Trainer. The whole system with him is that he represents the balance of Pokémon, using the three starters in rotation and switching out accordingly. Adding more Pokémon alienates the balance aspect of the character.
Not to mention the FireRed/LeafGreen theme of this PT in particular. Giving him foreign Pokémon like Typhlosion and Electvire wouldn't accomidate the theme. If they would go the extra mile to add even just one separate team, they'd be better off going with an entirely different trainer for that team. It's one thing to switch skins, it's another altogether to switch balance styles.
And speaking of alternate balanced teams, the amount of space and programming necessary for it would just be too much effort for such an unnecessary payoff. One other trainer with a different set is fine, giving you several Pokémon for one team is just redundant.

- Far too complicated for balance purposes
- Too much like a pokemon game and less like a Smash game
- To break the theme set for Pokemon Trainer. Whatever pokemon such a character could have would be those that come in threes. The only things that qualify are the legendary trios, the original Eeveelutions, and the various starters. The eevees aren't very varied, and they *won't* make the legendaries playable in that fashion.
I'd expect Pokemon Trainer Neo (D/P) with the corresponding starters before anything else. But even that's slim, given the amount of work I'm sure went into Pokemon Trainer.
