Also Isaac is an infinitely better choice than them.

See when it's characters like Isaac, that have been like Little Mac (stuck in assist trophy hell), I can agree. I knew that feel :sadshoe:

Yeah it's not like there's anything wrong with a Rhythm Heaven Representative (if there is one) I just think there's those more deserving.

Plus given the limited nature of the Glee Club guys I think they are better suited to an assist trophy.

To be honest, they wouldn't have been my first pick either. And like I said, the series has already gotten some acknowledgement, so that's enough, really. Replace the Little Mac assist from Brawl with Karate Joe, that'd be perfectly fine. It's not that big of a series to warrant a playable character, just an appearance in some way.

Just kinda cheeses me off when people criticize the series itself as not being worthy of showing up at all in Smash, just because a character they like didn't mentioned in a leak, and a wild card from a smaller series did. It's not even official, I mean, f**k. It's not like that time Phoenix Wright stole Mega Man's spot in Marvel, amirite? :butzthumbs:

Yeah it was shocking how much bad blood there was about Phoenix Wright being included, it's not like he was included OVER Megaman, there's nothing to say his inclusion meant Megaman was excluded, hell there's nothing saying Megaman was ever going to be in it. Just seemed like misdirected anger to me.

Though in any case I'm sure the Glee Guys will turn out ok if they are included...they'll just be far from my first pick.

At this point I'm at least hoping Isaac is still an assist trophy.

As a fan of Rhythm Heaven, I'd definitely like it if the Chorusmen/Marshal was playable in the game, It would be a nice recognition for the series seeing as they never really set on a mascot until the 3rd installment (Marshal, who, at least his likeness, was in all 3 games).
Although I do like the idea of Karate Joe as an assist trophy.

I'm really eager to find out more new/returning characters and I wish the reveals were as fast as they were on smashdojo, but this 'one screenshot a day' system Sakurai is using allows for all forms of info to be shown.

One thing I'd like to inquire about is the overall opinion on the possible Gematsu leak that is steadily gaining legitimacy. The reason I'm getting interested about it is because of these guys.

Image

They were included in the leak, and they're causing havoc over on the Smash boards on Gamefaqs. It's Phoenix Wright in UMVC3 all over again. They haven't even been confirmed, and people are flipping their shit. The only reason Rhythm Heaven fans are starting to believe the leak is because it's gotten characters such as the Wii Fit Trainer, the Villager from Animal Crossing, Pac-Man, etc. And because people have seen Rhythm Heaven characters in the Smash Run mode (specifically, a Sneaky Spirit). I'm a big fan of Rhythm Heaven, so I'm gonna sit back and see how it goes. I won't be upset if they won't get it (although I really want them to be a secret character to spite the assholes that insult the series despite knowing nothing about it simply because they want a character from a unique franchise in). I would have been fine with an assist trophy, but we'll see how this turns out. Rhythm Heaven's been acknowledged by Sakurai and the team in Smash, so I'm pleased. :phoenix:

Thoughts?

The "leak" was fake. Some idiot makes up a list of characters based on probabilities and educated guesses, it gets "published" and suddenly people go nuts over it.

Oh, Pac-Man's in the game. It's not like it's being partially developed by Bandai-Namco or anything.

Oh, Little Mac's in the game. Obviously he didn't have a recent game in the series that revamped him and surged his popularity.

Oh, Miis are in the game. It's not like Nintendo uses them in some fashion in almost every multiplayer game they make these days.

Most importantly, if it was an actual leak, Nintendo would have put out an official statement on it.

I did say "possible" leak, y'know. I'm aware that despite getting characters right, it's still not official until proven so and everything. No need to run in with an attitude :gumshoe:

I'm kind of iffy either way. On the one hand, that probably wouldn't be a character I would use all that much. On the other, Sakurai has managed to make every character so far look awesome, so... yeah. Kinda torn on that, I guess.

Oh, no attitude intended. Sorry if it came off that way, that's not the tone I meant to express at all. Probably doesn't help I was in a rush to finish before I had to go to work.

I believe the leak as well mainly because I want to play as the Chorusmen.
But yeah, According to Sakurai, the character list was decided on at the beginning of the game's development, so the whole "Pokemon from X and Y" vagueness makes sense, as it'd be natural the name of Greninja wouldn't be known before X and Y even released. Remember Sakurai picked him because he thought fans'd like him (It was a lucky/genius choice).

That, and Shulk promoting Xenoblade X, Chrom due to his popularity from FE: Awakening, and the Chorusmen (possibly being revealed if a new Rhythm Heaven is announced) Kinda fit with the other choices behind character picks.

The leak sure seems reliable and I have to wonder if it's possible that he confused the rhythm men for a assist trophy instead of a playable character. Or my logic could be completely wrong, but I don't see them making the roster. I'm still expecting Cap'n Falcon, Mr. Game and Watch (who was basically already revealed), Ness, The Ice Climbers, and possibly Metaknight (nerfed, of course. don't freak out please.).

The physical characteristics of your Miis get carried over when they become fighters. Small Miis are speed characters, larger Miis are power characters.

So... yeah, this probably cements them being banned from tournaments. Not that it really matters to me, though.

Considering we did see the Samurai Goroh AT during the Smash Direct, there's almost no doubt Captain Falcon is returning. Meta Knight as well, since Sakurai created him after all.

Tournaments will almost certainly be standard moveset only, mii fighters banned, no items, fox only, final destination.

I like at least how they've provided a 'Final Destination' for every stage, I mean I dislike competitive play entirely but part of that is due to how boring Final Destination can be. Providing a flat balanced version of every stage at least adds some variety.

Well for competitive play you'll want to eliminate as many 'luck' variables as possible to the results are based on player skill. And during casuals these players can go nuts with all the stages and items as they like. But it isn't always final destination in a competitive setting. Battlefield is also allowed and I've seen Yoshi's island as a stage played during EVO.

Ali Hillis isn't revising her role as Palutena. I will say though, watching the trailer, I didn't notice the difference. It seems the new voice actress has Hillis's Palutena down pretty well. I'm interested to see how she's going to sound when we hear more of her.

To me, I'd say it's similar to how Troy Baker found his voice double in Matthew Mercer as the voice of Kanji. It sounds really close to me.

Remember Little Mac's iconic pink sweatshirt from his training with Doc Louis? Well...

Image

It's his newest alternate outfit. I definitely wasn't expecting them to include it, as I recall his entrance in the game has him removing it during the countdown as the match starts, so this is a nice surprise. Along with the wire frame costume, this currently makes Little Mac the character with the most alternate costumes in the series. Now they just need to include Super Punch Out!!'s version and it'll be perfect...

Also, in case anyone was wondering, the outfit on the right is what he wears during the world circuit of Punch Out!! for the Wii. Sakurai doesn't point it out, so it's likely his blue alt for the base costume.

Mac looks amazing in a lot of his forms, I just hope his aerial weakness doesn't overshadow his strengths to make him unplayable.

Today we get some details on the 3DS Pac-Man stage we saw during his reveal trailer, Pac-Maze:

Image

The stage is lined with pac-dots. Eat 100 of them and a Power Pellet colored to your character appears.

Image

When you eat the power pellet, the stage hazards will become blue and can be killed by touching them. However, this is only the case for your own screen, as they will remain normal in everyone else's game and still damage them. Sakurai also points out that something like this can only be done on the 3DS version.

So, I got to play this at Oz Comic Con today! TBH, It was the only exciting thing there. Most of the convention was just stalls selling things, and irrelevant stalls for things like incense and or kids toys.

I tried out Rosalina and Mega Man (On the Wii U version), and Villager and Greninja (on the 3DS one).Getting there early meant all the 'hard-core' players were there, and would NOT try out any other stage apart from battlefield when I went on, so that was a bummer...

  • I liked playing as Rosalina, and I think if you can at least stay on the ground, she'd be a powerful character. I found she could be easily knocked far off the stage.
  • Mega Man was hard to get the hang of in only one match, and I wasn't sure how to use his down special (I know you can throw the leaves, but how?).
  • Villager was fun, and I think I'd like to learn how to play as him when the game comes out, I had finally set up the tree, but it's too easy for people to realise it's about to fall, and so I couldn't see how strong it was. Also, his up special will only fly up higher than the initial boost by pressing 'B' repeatedly, I was not aware of this until after I fell off the stage.
  • Lastly, Greninja kinda reminds me of Lucario, and is really fast. I used him in Smash run, so I was trying not to fall off the platforms to collect those power ups more than anything!

Also, Zero Suit Samus' Final Smash is like Snakes from SSBB, but using her spacecraft. It was a nice touch though, I wasn't expecting it!

In the Find Mii stage, the Dark Emperor causes status effects based on a character's color:

Image

Red characters for example become powered up. It's not stated in particular, but given the example pictured I figure it probably goes by team color in team combat and outfit color in solo combat. Don't quote me on that though, it's just a guess.

Also, the Mii Fighter is wearing the Mii Force helmet, so there's another costume choice.

Mijumaru wrote:

I believe you had to repeatedly hit Down+B for each leaf. It's been a while now since I played the Best Buy demo so I may be wrong.

While the tree does have great knockback and pretty good damage, I have to say that I've seen several strategies come out of it that aren't just about hitting opponents with it. One involved using the tree as a shield to block Samus and Rosalina's ranged attacks. Another is to spawn the tree and then just attack with the axe the Villager has until the tree goes away. I saw once that someone tried to use it to edge guard, but it takes too long to get the tree up and then make it fall on the person recovering. I suppose if it's already up it could work, though.

EDIT: Mario is American confirmed:

Image

Actually, it's an alternate outfit based on the one from NES Tournament Golf. Samus also gets an alt based on the Light Suit from Metroid Prime 2.

Also, Nintendo is hosting a Super Smash Bros 3DS tournament at San Diego Comic Con on July 25th, which will be streamed on their Twitch channel. Unlike the E3 event, this one is open to the public.

So, seems a new character will be revealed on Monday, with a 3-minute introduction video for them. Gotta be someone big for this extra fanfare.

Anyone wanna place odds on Shulk?

Also, just to be pedantic, Samus' new outfit is based ont he multiplayer of Metroid Prime 2, not the Light Suit. The Light Suit's far too badass for an alternate outfit it seems...

Let's see... the least we know is that it's a new character and not a veteran, and there aren't any major anniversaries on Monday that would serve as a tell... unless Sakurai is secretly a huge fan of Ogre Battle 64.

Oh, and if anyone wants a good laugh, read the responses to Sakurai's Miiverse post about the upcoming trailer. There's some real gems in there...

Which itself was also based on the Light Suit, but I suppose that's just nitpicking.

As I've said before, it's highly unlikely that we'll get any more third party characters. Not only that, but we already have a Capcom character in Mega Man, and third party companies only ever gotten one representative on the roster. The most you could hope for Phoenix is a trophy, maybe an AT at best, but definitely not playable this time around.

We could never put Naked Dunban int he game, he'd be far too powerful, what with nothing being able to hit him.
Or it could be Riki, for a lethal joke character. Seriously, as soon as I used him on the final boss it was easy, and he's so inept in cutscenes...

Or we could go wildly off the rails and guess someone from another fighting game, like, say Kasumi in a tiny bikini Scorpion, or perhaps any other number of third party characters.

But we all know it'll be a 3-munite video for Captain Falcon also announcing a new F-Zero, right guys?

You thought you could be safe in your courts, with your laws and attorneys to protect you. In this world only I am law, my word is fact, my power is absolute.
