That's really more the game's fault than Snow's, the game is so disjointed it's hard to tell who anyone is or whatever is going on at any time.

Actually, I have no problem going with the game and know fully well who is who at any moment. After all, until the party merges in Chapter 9, you switch between two major parties - Light and Hope or Sazh and Vanilla. They get their development, we learn about their problems and their feelings. Snow gets cameos at odd moments that tell me nothing about him. The only thing I remember about him is asking for Sera's hand in marriage.
And I will gladly quote Lightning here: "She gets turned into a l'Cie and you pop the question?"
That's a pretty legit question to ask.

Ok that's your opinion and credit to ya for it. I know many more people who throughout the game had no idea who Jill Nabaat was or who Cid Raines was and why they were significant because the game never gets round to explaining them. Other than showing Jill in slight little "cameos" that hinted she was watching Sazh without really interfering or anything or even naming her or her position. A criminal crime in storytelling, especially since she featured heavily in marketing.

As for the proposal? That view is because Lightning is a narrow-minded foul little person who can't understand their relationship and indeed is biased against it. Snow proposed in spite of it, when he already knew she was L'Cie'd because he wanted to show he'd always stand by her and even help her complete her focus if he could because he loves her just so damn much. Lightning is just jaded to the world of course she's not going to get it.

Course the come the sequel and Serah's all "OMG LIGHTNING! LIGHTNING! GO GET HER SNOW!" but hey, the sequel is hardly any better than it's predecessor.

Meh, I just think that some characters are successfully portrayed in the game while others need to be examined outside of it.

Datalog. It's there and it's useful.

I don't understand their relatinship, either! Why? Because it's a whirlwind one. What was it, it's said they met at Sera's school or something, a month ago and she brings him home, after only a month of dating him, and introduces him to her sister?

Also. Just look at that guy. He looks like a bum. He looks all brawn and no brain. Snow being the leader of NORA - No Obligations, Rules or Authority, doesn't help much because that name already implies that he is the type of guy who says "Screw the Rules!" and has no respect for any authority people.

Really now, I wouldn't be too thrilled if my daughter dated him, you really think I'd be happy if my sister did?
Granted, I don't have a sister... only a sister-in-law. But the point stands.

It's also optional, and updates so many times you quickly ignore it. You don't leave your plot down to optional things like that, it's just bad design. The Codex in FFXII? Great little bits! Optional. The Wizard's Compendium in Ni No Kuni? Also great and optional, possibly the best form of this. The same applies to the Codex's in Dragon Age and Mass Effect games or Jiminy's Journal from Kingdom Hearts

Occasionally you'll look there if you want to fluff out your game or read a document relevant to a sidequest (hardly a problem due to the lack of interesting sidequests in XIII) but you do NOT go there to read every little thing and you cannot count on it. If you have a story to tell, freaking tell it don't just leave it hidden in the vault of information somewhere because your players aren't buying the game to read the novelization.

Doesn't matter whether Lightning enjoys the relationship or not. I'm not going to argue whether her opinion was right or wrong for it. You can claim it's an unbelievable relationship if you want, I hardly remember the game mentioning anything about it frankly but I do remember them showing the nice touching scene with the fireworks, and plenty of scenes showing the determination of Snow and Serah's love. Whirlwind and unbelievable if you like but the game makes it seem solid enough from what it shows.

Also he is a freedom fighter for a resistance group against the government....those mostly ARE bums. Looking at a list of freedom fighters, there's more like that. FF12 had Vaan and Penelo, freaking homeless children, FF7 had Barrett and Avalanche that live in slums, FF6 had Locke a thief and the returners live in a cave.

Compared to some of them Snow's actually pretty well dressed. Also if you had a group rebelling against the government what's wrong with a name that suggests you rebel against authority?

Because, do I really want a guy dating my sister who fights authority, making it incredibly likely that he'll get arrested - or worse, executed? I don't think so. I think Light wants a guy for Sera who, at the very least, doesn't shove a giant middle finger to the government or any authority.

You've also left out a fair bit of my counterpoints, are we done with this discussion then?

I'd just like you to see that - even if Snow's good point may be his intense love for Sera - he overall does not make a good (first) impression on any potential family member. Yes, Light eventually warms up to Snow being with Sera, but again: first impression.

No I wouldn't especially say that.
The Government is held as corrupt by many and disliked for shipping people off for execution, you don't need to be a full on rebel to see that's problematic. Even then that's not necessarily how you introduce yourself at first impression.

"Hello I'm Serah's fiancée and I'm the leader of a rebel organisation that fights the government's purges" that's just not how the conversation would go.

Lightning is actually part of the military so of course she'd be sceptical and have a bias against him from the start plus she's just being protective of her sister so caution is natural.

As it is Snow generally gets on with party members, and was popular and charismatic enough to be a leader and draw people to him for his war effort. The only people who have conflict with him are either biased against him (Lightning) or have incorrectly founded hatred against him (Hope). Everyone else generally gets on with him so yeah I wouldn't say he's especially bad at first impressions.

I meant appearance-wise. You cannot deny that he kind of looks like a bum. He looked like a blond Phoenix, only buffer. Also, I do not remember anyone thinking the Government was corrupt or bad before The Purge began.

Err no...I already described how there's much worse looking actual homeless people in other FF's. He looks like a bum in the second game sure.

Blond hair, beanie, dashing clean white leather coat, nice gloves and comfortable looking trousers. Yeah I wouldn't say he looks that bad.
