Its stronger then the typical hammer, and if you mash the a button you can float in the air, but sometimes like with the original hammer it will not work, and instead of doing damage it just makes a sqeaky noise when it hits people. Finally its rarer then the original hammer, not so hard to understand : )

No, the a button smashing is just for the floating aspect, go play "Wrecking Crew" for the NES, that is where the Golden Hammer comes from and thats how it works in WC.

Another thing that kind of proves that's not Tom Nook in the background is that Nook is most known for wearing a blue apron with the Animal Crossing symbol on it (hint hint!). The raccoon there isn't.

I was trying to prove you wrong, the yes was sarcasm ;) The raccoon in the background is just as tall as the other animals (which Timmy and Tommy aren't), has his eyes half-closed (which Tom Nook has but his nephews don't), and if you bring up the clothes thing - Timmy and Tommy were only seen wearing a suit.

I'm also quite sure the Golden Hammer is from Super Mario Bros. 3. It even has the same pedestal.

Todays Smash update confirms what we all knew. WI-FI PLAY!

There are 2 settings. With Friends, witch basically means, You registered their Wii code and same to you. You can battle each other. It will also tell you when your friend is online to send them a battle challenge. If they accept, your tossed in a battle. They also added Text Taunt support, but they are pre-made and mapped to the + pad(on the Wii Remote) There is also the perk of Records for online play against friends.

In Battle anyone, You basically don't know the person, all info is locked, and no short message sending. But a perk is you don't have a record to keep track of your losing streak  Also, while you wait for the battle to begin, you get to practice on the sandbag too!

More Wi-Fi features are ssid to be on there, and will be revealed with other updates later.

That's right, I'm producing something. Expect something to come out of my new production studio.

Today's update is quite important, both the confirmation and detailing of Wi-Fi Play. The distance between you and your opponents may effect how well the matches play, but that's hardly much in comparison to actually getting online multiplayer.

There are several things you can do in this mode. Aside from selecting an icon to represent you from your collected stickers, you can also select up to four preset messages for you to shout during matches by taunting (one for each direction on the control pad).

There are two different ways to play, with friends or random opponents. The main difference is that friends can see each others' names, battle records, among other things, while random opponent can't.

Also, while the match is loading, you can spend some time pummeling Sandbag as everything is set up.

Heh, thanks. I like being thorough when it comes to posting important stuff like this. Details make everything easier to understand without needing to look it up yourself.

Speaking of details, I wonder what else will be included in the Wi-Fi mode. Some of the Special Brawl options, perhaps, or even trading points for extras, like in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption? Someone on GameFAQs suggested trading the collectable extras like CDs and Stickers.

One thing that bugs me, though... they didn't explicitly say if it was up to 4 consoles in a game, although right now it certainly seems that way. I just want to know for sure!

Whacha mean? Like two people can be on one console, while the two have their own?

***

And about the whole Tom Nook think, I still say he's the new Animal Crossing character! Isn't there another raccoon character? And even if there isn't, there are hundreds of AC characters, so if someone chooses Nook on the Smashville screen, it's just common sense that he won't appear in the back!

Besides, he's the best choice possible. Even though there is the nameless Pokémon Trainer, I doubt they'll have the generic AC playable character. And Mr. Resetii? Why him over Nook?

Nope, there isn't another raccoon, and why would they put him in the back in the first place if he'll be out? Seems a waste - you don't see Yoshi in the back of Yoshi's Island either. The regular Animal Crosser seems still the best pick to me, especially because he's already shown to be able to wield axes, nets, shovels, etc. Ah well. We'd better just wait and see :p

And woo, Wi-Fi. Too bad they don't keep scoreboards, but it's awesome anyway. Playing online to improve yourself is just great. :gant:

Probably, like in MP3, by meeting certain conditions you receive a friend voucher to add to your data, but appear in adventure mode only. And those could be used to send to help unlock a hidden character.... ya know?

Why bother? for friend mode you could just invite over three real people, and for the 'world' mode you can just play against the computer; since there's no personal data, voice capabilities, taunts, record tracking, or contact information plus lag time, you may as well just play the computer and get the same, more or less experience--plus, no lag.

The 'World' mode seems a bit tacked on to me, but I like the customizable friends mode.

You forget that AI is exploitable and predictable. Smash players need to test their skills against other human players, and when you're a lonely nerd living in your parent's attic it's not as likely you'll have friends in meatspace to invite over.

I'm surprised they don't have universal scoreboards of any sort. Maybe they'll announce competitive play modes later, like seasonal ladder rankings?

So go outside and make friends? I really don't see why that is ever a valid argument against in person multiplayer. "bawww I have no friends so I'll accept crappy internet play." ?

I doubt they will announce anything like that; I also don't think you'll get to 'test your skills' since they seem to believe the lag is going to be substantial even before the game even comes out.

For someone with such a dim view of humanity, you certainly make it sound easy. It was a joke, regardless.

The reason I put some weight on competitive rankings is, honestly, because Smash invites competitive play. Then again, are there any arguments for Nintendo to support/not support that playstyle? For an average (or apathetic) end-user it is rather trivial but in the grand scheme it's something that could certainly help their lagging popularity in the "online service" field.

I'll agree that the announcement of considerable lag is something of a cockblock. It's a given that any online game would have some amount of lag, but this is a major demerit on Nintendo's online record. It's one thing to want to wait until they can provide optimal online service, it's another to finally come out with it and openly admit it's majorly flawed.

But I'll just cling to the silly hope that he's being overly polite and apologetic about the lag, and it's been blown out of proportion.

Today's update is a focus on the stronger enemies in the subspace army. I made a post detailing them, but the forum hiccuped and lost it, so I'll just say to see them for yourselves. The images are certainly more impressive than the descriptions, anyway.

My personal favorite is the R.O.B. Squad. They just look like fun to smack around some.

Woohoo! You can wail on real, original enemies with the SSSBB characters! Now more than ever am I feeling that there is a real story mode to the game, and I'd love to try it almost as much as the brawl part itself. It'll be interesting to be crushing these robots and shadow fiends as any Nintendo character, or the 3rd party ones.

I guess this makes the game feel a bit more serious, so that Solid Snake, Link, Samus, and the like aren't really in a full-blown cartoon world, but that big things are at stake.
