I say, chances of that are really slim... but yeah, there's always the possibility. Personally, I don't think that'd change much, but you never know.

And talking about the demo on RSG FB page had me thinking... it's probably been answered a dozen times in this thead already, but how much 'spoilery' is the demo exactly? Is it like 999, where it's not part of the main game (the dialogues), even though the puzzles are the same? Or did they just take an early chamber and put it as the demo?

It's a demo, so there can't be any spoilers.

You can choose between the escape and the novel section. The escape section is just the room you get, when you choose Alice on the first branch. The novel section is like a summary of the beginning and isn't in the game in that form.

You know, I didn't put those " just for fun, there's a reason for that :p (Funny, since you gave me the very answer I was looking for).
I was just wondering if the demo was the sort of demo with original content (there's been quite a few of those, though they tend to be quite rare), or just a small part of the game that with small and/or non-existent differences with between the demo and the final game.

Well, looking good then, thanks for your answer :shoe:

(As for GAF, I'm still in the queue waiting to go on the forum. Damn).

There are a few aspects that I think 999 is better, but overall I'd say VLR.

I think 999 had the better True Ending twist.

But there is an ending that is better than the 999 True Ending. I'm sure everyone who has played the game knows which one I'm talking about.

Spoiler: VLR... not the worst, spoilers, but
The reason 999 had the better True Ending twist is because if you played 999, you already knew about the morphogenetic fields and whatnot, so it wasn't a crazy twist like it was in VLR.

Yes, indeed. <3

Oh, btw. there are some very interesting dialogues in 999...

Spoiler: quotes from 999 spoiling stuff from VLR
In the library, checking out the bookshelves. Really neat stuff there.

---

Junpei: This book is called... uh... "Mindswap".

Clover: You mean you could, like, change bodies with someone?

---

Junpei: "Teletemporation and Telepathy" ... What the hell is this one about?

Seven: Well, I know what telepathy is, but I've never heard of "teletemporation".

Snake: It refers to having the ability to travel through time.

---

Clover: This one says "The Golden Rabbit and the Moon" on it. Does that mean it's about a rabbit that lives on the moon? Rabbits are pretty cute, but what's the moon stuff about?

Snake: It's talking about the Judas tree that is said to grow on the moon, according to Chinese legend.

I don't think it's necessary; the game drops some reminders for you when they do refer back to 999 (but they do so in a way that isn't confusing for those who haven't played 999).

But you can still do that if you want to. Especially if you have a completed save that lets you skip text (like for the opening).

Welp, Nintendo Power gave VLR an 8.5 of 10. Slightly lower than the 9 they gave 999, but still respectable.

Dah hell man, you shouldn't say no to someone asking whether he should replay 999 or not. There needn't be a reason to replay this awesome game to actually replay it :p

So grim_tales : yeah, go on, replay it! Replay it! REPLAY IT!!! :gant: (It's an order. I got ninjas positioned near your house, ready to take action if you don't start replaying this game 10mn after reading this post. :shoe: )

Same here. I guess it's going to take a day or two though, since it isn't in my account yet. Or perhaps they noticed I returned the one that didn't have a pre-order bonus. I guess I'll wait; no rush.

Well, it looks like you can still get the pre-order watch, at least according to a reader from GoNintendo :

Quote:
The preorder bonus for Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward wasn't given to people who preordered on Amazon before the bonus was announced. However, I just got this email from Aksys saying that if you send them a proof of purchase and meet the eligibility requirements, they will send you a watch! They said watches start shipping in January, and here are their Eligibility Requirements:

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Ordered Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward on or before September 17, 2012.
2. Have not canceled or returned Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward.
3. Provide Proof of Purchase and copy of Amazon receipt.
4. Eligible UPC Codes are:
a. 8-93610-00162-4
b. 8-93610-00163-1

By the way, sort of good news for European players. Looks like RSG couldn't reproduce the game breaking save glitch in the European version, which might, I said MIGHT suggest the bug is not found in the European version. Here's the message from their FB page :

Quote:
Virtue's Last Reward 3DS bug UPDATE:
At Rising Star Games we have appreciated everyone's support by notifying us about the saving bug found in 3DS version of Virtue's Last Reward and we thank you for the patience shown by the community while we investigated the issue.

Upon analysing the master code we submitted for the game we have not found any replications of this bug. Currently we would hope
this means the bug does not exist on our version. As soon as the boxed 3DS retail cartridges arrive in our office we will be examining them to confirm the bug is not present in our copy of Virtue's Last Reward.

When we are able to test these copies we will update the community and take the situation from there. Thanks again for your patience and support.

One thing's for sure, I won't try to check whether the bug is really gone or not once I get the game :shoe:

It will probably still be in the European version as well. It was in the Japanese version as well, and there isn't much code that RSG would need Chunsoft to change for them.

Funnily enough, it looks like none of the major retailers (in France) are listing VLR, so it's not just Amazon after all.
I really wonder what RSG is playing at, 2 weeks before the actualy release of the game in Europe. I am really glad I pre-ordered it on Amazon.co.uk, at least I'm safe :p

Spoiler: Continued playthrough
Continued my play a bit. Thinking back to the trailers, there was the whole 3 laws of robotics being thrown around. Right now, my prime suspect for being a robot is Luna, since she only ever votes Ally.

K… I don't know how to read. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to his betrayals and alliances. I'm sure he isn't a villain, but he sure isn't a hero either.

Alice is a jerk. Clover is a jerk apprentice. Tenmioji is just some grandpa.

Also, is it just me, or are the endings to VLR much less traumatic then in 999? Most of the time when I get a game over it's so someone can run for help.

Actually, VLR in general seems less like a horror reality gameshow like 999 and more like a space habitat. Also, pressure suits and room? There's no reason to have them unless we're in space… or underwater. But bombs are less dramatic underwater, so I'm going to continue with space.

And… I find myself undergoing much less apprehension being with this cast then with the 999 team. In the first game you had Ace and Santa as the primary villains, and June, 9th Man, Cap, and Snake's double as their lackies. Then throw in that Seven looked like a generic anime thug, Clover was Axe crazy, Snake was kidnapped. And you've only got Junpie and Lotus whom you can ultimately trust. And of those Lotus would only ever look out for #1. So Junpei was ultimately on his own.

Compare VLR:

Luna's a sweetheart, also a robot methinks.
K has confusing priorities but seems harmless.
Tenmioji is just some grandpa.
Quark… is suspicious as all get out.
Alice is a suicidal agent.
Clover forgot her axe.
Dio is a villian.
Sigma is the protagonist.
Phi is a wordsmith, and not much else.

Granted, it's early, but for a game that's about alliances and betrayals, there's not much organized backstabbing going on.

Also, after stumbling into those two endings I mentioned in my last post, I've gotten to a lot of locks. And.. the one on the far right is confusing me. Phi is accusing me of betraying her the first time, and then ditches me. This isn't locked. And the menu heavily implies this is the way to Phi's ending. But… I can't remember an occasion where I have betrayed her. Or at least, one that would cause her to flip out like that.

@Wooster

You are comparing the characters at the end of 999 to the characters at the beginning of VLR. Many characters in the first two thirds of 999 seemed innocent and trustworthy as well.

At least locks are nice enough to turn green when you've fulfilled the conditions to get past them. Not that it's hard to understand why something got unlocked.

Spoiler: One of Alice's locks, maybe?
I especially liked that lock that you can immediately get past just by revisiting it.

Oh, and I got my first ending (Tenmyouji) after 17.5 hours of gameplay!

Spoiler: Reason for the long time
It didn't help that I decided to play the game by choosing doors from right to left and always choose ally then betray. The right side of the timeline has many, many locks! I had guessed that one of two longest paths was the true ending and realized that I likely wouldn't get there, but now I'm not so sure since Tenmyouji's path proved that some of the timeline is hidden.

I was going to do a write up about what I thought of Tenmyouji's ending, but I haven't touched the game in several days because I've been busy. That should be fixed tomorrow!

So for now I'll keep my thoughts to myself and dump them out later.

That search seems to be a bit messed up... it's skipping over some of your posts (such as game 1 and game 2 round 2's results). I don't know why, since they are properly tagged.

Unless it's just because I'm not logged in?

Yeah, Tumblr likes to occasionally eat posts a little while after they have been posted. Or display them out of order.

Which makes it a little annoying to follow after the fact.

Does the bigger screen REALLY make a difference (I only have a DS Lite right now).

Well, it's 90% bigger, so I guess it'll make a difference. There are also other things the 3DS Xl does better than the normal 3DS (battery life, ergonomy).

Yes. Yes it was.

I got the game before a lot of people on English-using forums did, since I got it a few weeks after the release date in Japan. So I got to watch a few people play the game before it was release in North America, like Bad Player. So that was pretty fun.

I personally don't own an XL/LL, but I know that the resolution is exactly the same as the standard 3DS. And I'd imagine that would look kind of like playing an older game on a flatscreen television. But I have heard that it doesn't look that bad.

Anyway, Alkolto, I've been watching Wooster here do his play through and post his theories... Is this how it was for you before a large chunk of us got the game? I mean was it this fun?

Yes. Yes it was.

I got the game before a lot of people on English-using forums did, since I got it a few weeks after the release date in Japan. So I got to watch a few people play the game before it was release in North America, like Bad Player. So that was pretty fun.

Other people aren't having crazy reactions like I did, tho Dx

Anyway, a random thought...
Spoiler: endgame spoilers
If they can build GAULEMs and make them look and function exactly like humans... why couldn't everyone but Sigma and Phi have been GAULEMs? Sigma and Akane would just have to program them to act like the real people would, and as long as Sigma and Phi can't tell the difference...

Man, Akane might be a worse jerk than Zak
