It was, indeed, the first to update. And the movies on the German site still seem to be working, and aren't looked massacred from the insane amount of traffic.
Anyway. Second movie also shows some kind of fairy encircling Zelda, possibly an item (health restoration?), and Peach dancing with Bowser. What the?

Not necessarily. In fact, because he was supposed to be starring alongside Mario for the first time in the Olympics game, his inclusion was fairly unexpected. Since Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is supposed to come out around Christmas, putting Sonic in Brawl, which is (was?) supposed to come out nearly a month earlier would undermine the other game's advertising.
Put that with an interview with a Sega rep at E3 where it's stated that Sonic in Brawl "isn't in the cards", and it really didn't seem like Sonic was going to be in Brawl. The lack of discussion about it between then and now didn't exactly flag signals of his inclusion, either.
EDIT: And even if you don't like Sonic, that just gives you more incentive to buy the game, so you can beat the tar out of him.
Most of it is stuff we've gotten in the last three months. ATs and recently-announced characters all around.

• Mario is fighting Petey Pirahna. I guess there's a choice or random chance between him or Kirby being the one to take him on.
• Looks like Peach got herself a new taunt, the tramp!
• In fact, at the end, I think they just did a showing of a good majority taunts.
• When the Ice Climbers are dancin, Squirtle gushing water, and Charizard is breathing fire, those look like new stages.
• The names under the percentage life bars are of the character, and it even says Zero Suit Samus for the skin-tight outfitted bounty hunter.
Oh, and to those not quite as thrilled with Sonic, just remember, this is a many character game here. You don't have to like 'em all, just brawl!

Actually S&MatOG was annouced to be released in November, Butz is still right that it was a give away after the game was annouced back in April. Also it was the NoE guy who said Sonic "isn't in the cards", which as I've said before, unless it comes out of Sakurai's mouth, should only be taken with a grain of salt.
Still today was an awesome update, Live and Learn is a great song for a fighting game, and Super Sonic as a FS should be sweet.

As I recall, at that time all the press releases and trailers said was "coming Q4 2007" and "coming holiday (and later, Christmas) 2007" respectively, which hinted more at a December month of release than a late november one, and would have put the game out after Brawl. That wasn't a giveaway, anyway; just because they starred in one game together, which was initiallized under entirely different circumstances, didn't automatically make Sonic a Brawl candidate. There's a difference in hoping something will happen and believing it already has.
Correction: Sakurai and Nintendo. If there's anyone who would know what non-company characters would be included, it's Nintendo. And last I checked, Nintendo of Europe is most certainly part of Nintendo.
As good as the update was alone, the extra info from the conference helped spice it up, too. Online co-op alone looks like a promising concept, and we barely know anything about it.
Oh, and just for the record, BP is never right, nor can he ever be. It's a scientifically proven fact.

As long as they only include him and not someone lame like Shadow or Amy (...and many more), I'm a happy gamer.
For crying out loud, quit acting like it's the current Sonic Team that's developing this game.
I honestly don't care about Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Mother/Earthbound/Whatever but you don't see me complaining that they're so involved. :/
But I agree on that Mega Man and Bomberman should seriously be in this.

The release date for the US is delayed. While that sucks for you lot, that means that for Europe, it'll probably be 2009.
