I thought that "other project" was Steins Gate though which had finished?
I agree though, we probably wont see any announcements let alone info/pictures til the end of 2013 or early 2014.

Fair enough.
Well he did say (in that interview from about a month back) he hopes to announce something "in the near future", so maybe some news could be say, a couple of months away (doesnt hurt to be optimistic).

Come to think of it, I've had the demo for VLR on my 3DS since last year and I still haven't played it.

I didn't enjoy the demo for VLR. I thought the room on it was the worst in the game and I didn't find the story especially gripping. Still, It's worth a try, so you know how the game works.

I didn't enjoy the demo for Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2, and yet the full game is really good.

Exactly. VLR is amazing. I don't think there are many demos out there that do the game justice.

Siliconera posted a cool new interview with Uchikoshi:

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/29/99 ... al-novels/

Nothing new really, but he did say he's going to rack up the tension in Volume 3 or at least try to. Seems he wants the best of both games.

Weird that people in Japan thought the game looked too scary. Then again, the DS didn't get many dark games like 999.

999 did look scary. When I first saw/heard about it, the Saw movie franchise popped into my head, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. There's also the matter of the rating. (999 was actually the first M-rated game I ever bought/played.)

It's true that most of the game isn't actually scary (at least in the way that people thought it was/would be), but... even if it isn't actually scary, if people think it is and don't buy it, it's a problem :sadshoe:

999 is one of the very few M/16+ rated DS games I have - I immediately thought of Saw too when I heard about the game :D

I have to admit I was concerned about the M rating too, and it was the first M rated game I played as well (even though I was of age by then). It turned out quite differently than I expected. I think it was also the first game I played based on people in a forum (this one or the backup forum) highly suggesting it. At least, I think that's what happened... the details are a little fuzzy.

I think the same thing happened with me too. I had played mystery/VN's before like the AA games but nothing quite like 999, and like you I bought it because word of mouth was so good. Glad I did! :D

Man I forget how I got into 999, and I also thought of the usual Saw parallels when playing the game. Getting Clover's Axe ending while playing late at night was the probably the scariest the game was for me.

I don't think I found out/got interested in 999 because of the forum, but IIRC I didn't buy it until the people here told assured me it wasn't bloody/gory/scary.

Ideally for ZE3, they would have the feel of 999 in-game and the feel of VLR in the ads xP

A friend let me borrow his copy of VLR! Already got the Dio end and a couple of Game Overs. Also have one Lock and one part where I need to input some code I don't know yet.

So far, this is the best 3DS game around... But unless the endings blow me away, it's still far from the amazingess of 999.

Got the PEC Room save-breaking glitch last night... I was scared as all hell, but luckily I hadn't saved after entering it, so I just loaded a previous instance (before the Ambidex Game so I had to smash A for like 10 minutes), advanced until the part just before you enter the PEC Room, saved, and now need to find out how to avoid the glitch.

One thing I find better than 999: the characters. Most may disagree, but I like the VLR characters much more interesting than those in 999... Except Clover, she was awesome in 999, but at least so far, she's far too bland, silly and fan-servicey in VLR.

Also I'M SUCCESSFULLY AVOIDING SPOILERS, HELL YEAH

I dunno, I liked 999's characters better. I thought they were a lot deeper than VLR's, tbh.
Spoiler: 999+VLR spoilers
Ace looks like a calm, father-like authority figure. Turns out he's a psychopath who murders for his own gain without batting an eye.
Seven looks like a giant lurch who will turn into the big bad's henchman. Turns out he's a cop.
Lotus looks like an ice queen, where everything that should've gone inside her head got put on her chest instead. Turns out she's a smart, strong woman who, while looking out for number one, still doesn't simply throw everyone else aside.

Alice seems like a secret agent trying to put on a dumb act that ends up being... a secret agent trying to put on a dumb act.
Dio seems like a total jerk who ends up being... a total jerk.
Phi seems like a mysterious deadpan snarker who ends up being... a mysterious deadpan snarker.

And so on and so forth.

I think the difference here is that in 999, the twists had to do with the characters personalities (Ace is a psychopath, Clover is a psychopath, Lotus is smart, etc) whereas in VLR the twists only had to do with the identities (Tenmyouji=Junpei, K=Kyle/Akane, etc). It's not that the twists are worse, the characters are just not as deep/interesting.

I agree with BP
Spoiler:
I mean, in 999 I got the feeling Dio was the villain from the start because he was a jerk. The best character in the game for me was Luna, but as you say it wasnt her personality twist.. a kind, gentle woman whoyouthinkisavillainbecauseofAceorJunein999... is kind and gentle.
The brilliant twist was the Gaulem thing - and that made her have the MOST personality. And we havent really found out much about say, Phi.

To be honest, I can't decide which characters I found most interesting. In VLR I liked them for their personalities, and in 999, for their development.

VLR is now on the North America eShop for a rather reduced $24.99 price. That's $15 cheaper than retail!

It's on the front page, but it's nowhere near the top unfortunately. Also, no idea if they bothered to fix the save bug.

Oh, and for some reason they used the original trailer or something, before English voices. Weird.

Apparently Aksys say they fixed the bug in the E Shop version according to their FB page and this thread:

I wonder if we'll get any info at all on ZE3 soon, maybe at TGS?

The bug was fixed in the eShop version in the US only. No word on a patch for the retail version, or the eShop version in Europe. I actually asked RSG, and they never heard about any patch whatsoever... which is odd.
If they fixed the bug, that means they found the source of the problem... so why not release a patch? Why not announce it publicly instead of just making a comment on your Facebook page? It's all very suspicious, and I hope we'll hear about this soon.

I still find it unbelievable it took them, what, 10 months to find the bug and fix it... actually, that's almost 20months if you count from the Japanese release... That's very strange. The glitch in DS: Overclocked (Atlus) in Europe was fixed much faster.

***

Anyway, as I don't have anything to play on my 3DS until Pokémon X in october, I decide to go and replay Virtue's Last Reward... I had been waiting for this for MONTHS! But this time, I'm gonna take the time to play the game, without "rushing" the end.

Don't have much to say so far, except that I finally realised something very minor :

Spoiler: Troo And
When Phi calls you an 'ero jiji'... I thought it was just because Sigma might be slightly older (and a pervert to boot), but since I've completed the game, I finally understood. It's a very nice clue the writer hid there, right at the beginning... but yet you wouldn't realise anything until you've seen the true ending!

Anyway, I really love the voice acting, it's really fabulous. And I love how Sigma can be a total pervert sometimes. "I wouldn't mind having my head pressed between your bare thighs". That one really cracked me up, especially since I finally realised what's inside the spoiler tag above ;)

As for the save glitch, I plan of making a backup of my saves just in case, while still saving only during novel sections of course (and not in the PEC Room).

I completely missed
Spoiler:
Phi saying "eroi jiji" - is that a way of saying he's a perverted old dude?
Another thing I noticed after completing was the poster in the elevator - that was a clue that was "hidden" but also staring me in the face (hints at time travel, some people may be old...?)

Anyone think we'll get some ZE3 info soon, maybe at TGS? I know Uchikoshi said "the end of the year" but that was months ago when those interviews were done.

By the way, $24.99 is a promotional price until September 3. So if anybody was holding out on this game (unlikely that anyone reading this is, but who knows), get it now!

I can't find anybody confirming that they didn't crash while playing the eShop version of VLR, btw. The only thing I saw was a tweet of someone saying they just disabled saving in the PEC (maybe other rooms too?). But that's hardly concrete. I'm kind of surprised that nobody has said anything.

@grim_tales

Yup, "ero jiji" basically means "old pervert". "Jiji is a (derogatory, I believe?) word used for an old person (you actually hear Quark calling Tenmyouji "ji-chan", Grandpa).
It's not something you could remember unless you were familiar with Japanese :yogi:

Spoiler:
Personally, I was convinced it was because Phi really wanted to stress out was a REAL pervert, not just the regular ol' pervert ;)

Actually, I'm now seing some scenes in a totally different light now... like Clover trying to seduce you during on the AB rounds.

As for news about the 3rd game, I dont really know anymore, though I'm still expecting an early 2015 release at best. Last we heard, a few weeks ago, Uchikoshi said they hadn't started development yet, but he still had the plot in his head and everything.
In my opinion, an announcement at TGS sounds very unlikely, but we shall see!

***

So they didn't fix it at all, then?
Guess that explains why the guy from Aksys said "the issue was addressed in the eShop version", and not "fixed". Makes a looot of damn sense.
I honestly have no idea why, in the end, Chunsoft didn't even bother with a patch.

Actually, with the 3DS version, you can avoid the glitch entirely, thanks to the save backup features from 3DS Firmware 6.0 and beyond. What I do now is save, see it's saved correctly, then go and back-up the save. That way, if anything happens, I'll still have an old save as a back-up. Too bad you can't do it with the retail version, though.

Personally, I did the PEC room route first this time around. Didn't get any glitch the last time I played, but didn't want to take any chances anyway.

Ok, remember when I said I never encountered any problem playing Virtue's Last Reward? Well, it's not the case anymore.
I had the game freeze during a puzzle, in the Archives. Thanks god, my save file was intact (and I had a back-up anyway). Dunno what happened exactly, but I noticed the game had some slowdown during the dice puzzles (where it froze). Guess at one point, the "lag" causes th game to crash.

I also noticed some frame rate drops during the result screen for the AB Games.

Personally, I'm amazed Spike-Chunsoft still hasn't fixed those problems... it's appalling, and not very professional. My problems weren't that bad, but the save glitch should've been fixed ages ago. I really hope that Zero Escape 3 will be better tested. And I hope that Spike-Chunsoft will be some cheap-ass and go and try to fit the game in a small cartridge... so that we don't have noticeably-compressed audio. At least, have the eShop version with full-quality dub, please.

By the way, I got a question... how can people complete the game in less than 40h? I've seen some people say 35h... did they just use a guide for the puzzles and rush the hell out?

By the way, I got a question... how can people complete the game in less than 40h? I've seen some people say 35h... did they just use a guide for the puzzles and rush the hell out?

I think I had that freeze too. Also, I do recall some frame dropping too in occasions like that.

Unless someone has seen people in Japan complaining, it seems that most of the bugs encountered in the English version are caused by the localization, not the original code, and they just can't put forth enough effort to figure out why (though it definitely seems like an elusive sort of bug).

3DS cartridges can actually be pretty large. Resident Evil Revelations was over 3 GB apparently, and required a 4 GB cartridge. It's just a matter of cost for getting larger flash chips, and apparently they cheaped out. How many blocks is the download version, btw?

My play time was a bit lower than average since I had that save bug and went through the parts of the game I already played as quickly as possible. According to my activity log, the actual amount of time the game was running is 74 hours 23 minutes. Huh. Probably included times where I left it idle for some reason.
