It was this game that got me into J-pop (at least a bit), it's great and I actually managed to S-rank each song. Now onto Ouendan 2, but there's still something I don't get about the scoring. Do you always get extra points in hidden mode? Because it made a significant difference on the Olé Olé song (that's what I call it :gant: ), without me noticing any added beats.

The consensus is that you should earn more points for completing more challenging gameplay. So, yeah you more points while playing in Hidden Mode.

Oh, and the song you're thinking of is called "Zoku".

I personally like Ouendan 2 over EBA, and EBA over Ouendan 1.

But saying 'this is better' is pretty irritating at times. I'm fine with opinions but there has been too much of 'EBA suck' due to Ouendan being slightly better in some departments.

It was the first post I ever made in the Ouendan thread (in fact, the first thing I've posted about Ouendan, ever). I didn't even say EBA sucked, I just said that I enjoyed OTO a lot more. I think the stories and character designs for EBA were cool, but the song selection could've been better and the controls didn't feel as smooth or forgiving as OTO (not to mention the immensely awesome style of the original Japanese characters stuck in my head). I didn't think this was going to be a big deal, and it shouldn't be. It's a matter of preference.

@Radio Shadow:It helps if you actually look at the entire sentence. I don't see "EBA sukx" there, just she likes Ouendan better.
My opinion is that EBA is one of (if not the best) games to come to DS systems in the US. Japan got a version that was better, but EBA is still one of my top games!

So either you guys are trying to take a simple opinion out of context, or you are just blind to people's opinions.
I know you said you are open to opinions R.S. but that is my only other option.

And who cares what a few idiots say, they probably said EBS sukx to make trouble. They probably never played it. They probably couldn't get past what songs were in the game.
Who cares! The most important thing is what you like. And chances are that going off on someone because of what they say isn't gonna make them change their minds. I know I'm not setting a good example right now but it's just gotta be said and I've been watching AVGN so watch out.

All I see is a black and white mentality, if you think this is better you automatically think this sukx.
I already got that in the Games section just because I use Mechabowser's Case Maker and currently show no interest in the others.
I don't want that battle here. Personal preference is different for everyone. That is why I always mention it when I give my opinion on a game to someone. "I like it, but that is the kind of thing I like. It all depends on what you/they like."

When you go to post, try looking back at previous posts so you actually know what's going on. It's a skill you pick up on when you play CR Mafia.
I'd suggest playing just to know what I mean.

There's a difference between saying "I like Ouendan better than EBA." and "Ouendan is better than EBA."
Ouendan is definitely not better than EBA. Ouendan has several flaws, plus EBA added a lot of features and updates than Ouendan did not have to begin with. I haven't played Ouendan 2 yet to see how it's different from Ouendan and EBA, but EBA is definitely a better game than Ouendan.

That doesn't mean people can't enjoy Ouendan more than EBA, though. They can.

Just to clarify, Ouendan 2 does for EBA what EBA did for Ouendan.
EBA upgraded allot of things in Ouendan and in turn Ouendan 2 took the things from EBA and upgraded those even more.
I think that is why people prefer Ouendan 2 over EBA. It's EBA with extras.

I look at the games as a three game set. Yes, the games are separate but this is how I see it.
And EBA comes in the middle. Why? It was made in the middle, it represents the middle of the process.
And luckily the games get better as they come out. Does this mean that I'll like EBA2 better when and if it comes out? If things continue as they have I will.

I agree, EBA's improvements over Ouendan are great and added allot to the "series", and Ouendan 2 is a continuation of that. If you can get a copy go for it! This is one of the best "series" on the DS and my favorite music "series", it's worth having all of them.

Thank you for making your opinion the absolute after JUST stating there's a difference between giving a preference and giving something as set-in-stone truth.

Ouendan is better than EBA. How about that? "Better," in and of itself, is a statement of preference. Whether or not there are flaws or updates or what have you, I have the right to say "Ouendan is better than EBA" if I damn well feel like it. Halo 2 must clearly and factually be the superior game if it has updated graphics and more levels and online play, but wait! Halo 1 is more fun. Therefore, Halo 1 is better than Halo 2.

Here's a fact: EBA has more songs than Ouendan.
Here's an opinion: Ouendan has better songs than EBA.

Are we done yet? This is getting ridiculous.

You'll never be done in an argument of what's what, because peoples' interpretations of terms vary. It's why dictionaries have more than one definition for so many words.

People need to realize when other people say something, such as "delicious," they could be using it in completely different ways, given the word a completely different sense.

I'm allowed to say EBA is better than Ouendan, whether you like it or not, specifically because I gave reasoning why it's better. "Because it's more fun" isn't good reasoning because "fun" is way too subjective. For example, I think Shadow The Hedgehog is a VERY fun game, but it is by no means a good game. It's quite a terrible game, really. But I can still have a lot of fun with it.

And you are entitled to that opinion.
Me personally, I'm more about features than music.
There are songs I absolutely hate in EBA, (Material Girl I'm looking at you) but I like the game itself.
The Ouendans have the advantage in that I love all the songs, I don't know what they are about so I can't hate em. XD
But I still place EBA above Ouendan1.
And even though it's a cheep imitation and probably gonna be nowhere near as good I'm gonna get the Loony Toons EBA/Ouendan style game because I love the game play mechanic.

It's like The World Ends With You. Some people are drawn in by the story, others because they love games from Square.
I got it because I wanted to try the battle system out.
In the end people will like a game or games for different reasons.
You like music, I like features, they like the company. In the end it's still we like this game series. Some parts more than others but we still like them.

I'm not required to defend my views in that manner, and that doesn't make yours any more or less valid. I believe I've already given my reasoning at any rate: the original Japanese cheer-quad style is more charming and invigorating, the songs are more pleasing to my ear, and the controls are more comfortable and forgiving. All of these things add up to 'fun' in my book.

What I was calling you out on was your hypocrisy.

Bendilin wrote:

I figured you were tired of people always stating that Ouendan was better as some kind of absolute. We're all just fans stating our opinion, right?

Of course! I'm delighted that you have the ability to type your preferences. Reminds me of something from earlier:

Tajiri Ami wrote:

Oh right, I made that argument a post earlier, and it's somehow more relevant for you than me because you could say things like "it has more songs" or "it has more levels." I'm sorry, but as near as I'm concerned, the amount of fun I have while playing is my GREATEST standard of a game's worth. That's why I enjoy Breakout more than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. So what if GTA has tens of thousands more features, better graphics, etc.? It's SUBJECTIVE. You somehow make it seem as though it isn't.

Kindly remove your head from your ass, you pretentious prick. I'll not say any more on the subject.

I love Ouendan 1 & 2 and even, occasionally, EBA. Let's all be fans again, okay?

Of course. It will just make you look a whole lot less credible. There's a reason why some good remaining "professional" reviewers like to go into detail and provide important points in thier reviews; It's a whole lot more credible than just saying, "I liked this game, you should buy it. 8/10."

If you can't back up your reasoning then there's no reason why anyone should respect what you have to say. And don't claim you don't care whether people care about your comments or not, because if you didn't then you wouldn't have posted them to begin with. Is asking you to explain why you feel the way you feel such an unreasonable request when you're oh-so-willing to state how you feel to begin with?

and that doesn't make yours any more or less valid.

It does if I explained myself.

I believe I've already given my reasoning at any rate: the original Japanese cheer-quad style is more charming and invigorating, the songs are more pleasing to my ear, and the controls are more comfortable and forgiving. All of these things add up to 'fun' in my book.

So you enjoy the characters and music more. Yes, those can make a game more enjoyable, but it doesn't make the game "better" it terms of how it's designed and developed. I've also never heard of anyone claiming Ouendan was more forgiving than EBA. People say Ouendan is far more difficult and has stiffer controls, specifically the wheel. Care to explain why you feel Ouendan has better controls than EBA?

What I was calling you out on was your hypocrisy.

There's a difference between saying "I like Ouendan better than EBA." and "Ouendan is better than EBA."

I figured you were tired of people always stating that Ouendan was better as some kind of absolute. We're all just fans stating our opinion, right?

Bendilin wrote:
Ouendan is definitely not better than EBA. ... That doesn't mean people can't enjoy Ouendan more than EBA, though. They can.

...And then you said that.

You figured wrong. I was just flat out stating that there was a difference. I just said that they were different. Hence, no hypocrisy. Let's simplify things;

"There's a difference between saying 'I like white bread better than whole wheat.' and 'White bread is healthier than whole wheat.' White bread is definitely not healthier than whole wheat. ... That doesn't mean people can't enjoy white bread more than whole wheat, though. They can."

That is, of course, if you accept that Elite Beat Agents is healthier than Ouendan. Er, I mean better! I know you won't though since we're obviously still not meeting eye-to-eye on the situation. You just can't seem to accept that I'm going by a mechanics point of view over "how much fun it is!"

I suppose asking you to stay mature during an argument is going to be too much to ask? This is the biggest problem with arguing on the internet; Someone always forces it into a shitfest of who can spit out the wittiest insults to make themselves feel superior over the opposition.

I'm allowed to say EBA is better than Ouendan, whether you like it or not,...

Of course! I'm delighted that you have the ability to type your preferences. Reminds me of something from earlier:

Tajiri Ami wrote:
I have the right to say "Ouendan is better than EBA" if I damn well feel like it.

Oh right, I made that argument a post earlier, and it's somehow more relevant for you than me because you could say things like "it has more songs" or "it has more levels."

Stuffing your own words down my throat doesn't make them mine, no matter how much you'd love them to. I never once claimed EBA was a better game because it had more songs. You're the one who claimed the amount of songs was of any importance.

Tajiri Ami wrote:
I'm sorry, but as near as I'm concerned, the amount of fun I have while playing is my GREATEST standard of a game's worth. That's why I enjoy Breakout more than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. So what if GTA has tens of thousands more features, better graphics, etc.? It's SUBJECTIVE. You somehow make it seem as though it isn't.

The amount of fun one person has playing one game compared to another doesn't change the quality of either game. Quantity means extremely little when it comes to the quality of a game. Someone could therotically make a music game with only one song, and it could be a far better game than a game with fifteen songs. By the way, your petty "Breakout vs San Andreas" argument is God awful. It's like comparing apples to an escargot sundae while everyone else here is comparing unripened apples to ripe apples.

Kindly remove your head from your ass, you pretentious prick.

Now who's being a hypocrite? I'm a pretentious prick because I can stay calm and collected while disagreeing with someone? You've got to be the most juvenile person who visits these forums.

I'll not say any more on the subject.

Thank God. I can't say I'll miss the flawed arguments and pathetic name calling.

Dude... people can have different opinions on how good something is.
I personally like Ouendan 2 over EBA, and EBA over Ouendan 1.
Nothing wrong with personal preference.
So chill and enjoy the music.

Donald Serrot wrote:

Some people like different things over other things.
This has all just become picking at some misspoken words.
You both have said things and interpreted what was said in the worst case scenario.
Let's just agree that the games are all good for the games they are and move on.
It's like hating the new Indiana Jones movie for not being as great as the older ones.
Go watch the AVGN's review of the movie on Youtube, he sums it up perfectly.
It's a good movie, if you go expecting to have it live up to the old ones you'll be disappointed, but if you go expecting to just be entertained with a good movie it will deliver.

You can accept that these games are good and be happy, or you can spend all your time comparing them to each other and getting nowhere.
