So after MW3 I was in the perfect mood to play Spec Ops: The Line, aka PTSD: The Game. If you want a shooter that shows the horrors of war and how it actually affects the characters, then this is the game for you. No spoilers, but you do bad things and the game chastises you on it.
Gameplay's clunky, but what made this game famous is its story and characters.

I just got Project M to play on my laptop when I can't play Smash Wii U, and I really like some of the changes.
Especially that Ganondorf can ACTUALLY use his sword.

I got another Eevee (+ Sp Dex, - Attack) and wasted all my Great Balls on it, before it decided to go into a normal one. The hell!? Why is Eevee always so stubborn to get into my balls?

Wasn't really trying to make a joke. It just didn't matter how many pokéballs I threw (regardless of type), it kept breaking out.

I finished a playthrough of Nicole.
I got the Alone ending, so... I guess it's a normal, but not really good Ending. At least I was not caught by the guy trying to kidnap me, apparently, but I also didn't get a guy to like me enough. But for a blind playthrough, hey... I, at least, managed to avoid a bad ending! The game has a nice mystery idea to it, though it seems to take really long to get going... or it's ENTIRELY based on parameters and, unless you know how to increase your parameters (especially the Clues one) fast, that part takes longer to begin and you run out of time to do things.

But now that I made a playthrough, I'm reading up all the spoilers. :will: The plot is that you have to watch out with the guys you can court, since one of them (apparently, according to the plot synopsis) is the kidnapper.

PS: I just looked up who the kidnapper is. It's pretty dang obvious who, guys. :ron:

Because I got the Alone ending: I didn't romance a guy enough to become a couple with it, but also didn't advance the mystery plot enough to be in actually imminent danger. I did get the threats of becoming the 4th victim. It's just, the game requires you to have over 900 in a Parameter to romance a guy (and a good relationship with him) and also over 900 in the Clues parameter, to fully go through with the mystery. I had neither. (Quite easy to accomplish, actually, considering the game made it sound like Clues will advance better when using the actions if I have higher parameters - and I thought that meant all of them)

And I wanted my suspicion confirmed, without wasting several hours playing through the game again. (I had spent several hours playing it in two sessions, come on...) And as said, it's pretty, really obvious. This isn't me being 'clever' in figuring it out early. It's really fucking obvious. I admit, I had my suspicion at first, but then an early, mandatory scene with one of the guys happens and I'm like, "It's you, isn't it?" and THEN there's a scene in the mystery plot that talks about the previous victims, and something mentioned is a heavy hint. Like, "GEE! THAT CERTAINLY MAKES ME THINK OF THIS ONE GUY!" And then the guy is the kidnapper.

The game is still overall fun, but the mystery of the mystery plot is about as well-hidden as the murderers in Danganronpa games. :ron: They even say "Don't look at the Gallery before playing the game, its layout pretty much spoils who the kidnapper is". I looked at it later... I don't think so. But sure. If someone else thinks so.

It certainly has issues. The villain plot is pointlessly stupid and so lacking of an actual reason/plan, you don't even know why you're supposed to take the guy seriously. The idea of having a group of kids start is sweet, but considering we go separate ways past the Santalune Forest, it's no different from starting with your rival. (And why does everyone say all the kids are your rivals? They aren't. You fight them twice, but Serena/Calem is the only one remotely filling the rival spot)

The trainer customization is lacking and should really be improved upon (there are only 2 hairstyles for the girl I like and only 1 for the guy) Also, the introduction phase is too long. Bla bla bla, let's give each other nicknames (WHY!? I already picked a name for my character, why should I add a nickname? You are never referred to by nicknames!) bla bla bla, Pokémon, bla bla bla, Pokédex, can I PLEASE look at my Pokémon now and see if I got a shiny? No? Shit, now I have to do this whole scene all over again...

There isn't much post-game content, but... I never saw the point in PG conent for Pokémon. I mean, my journey and goal is always being champion. What am I supposed to do after getting that goal? I mean, it might be cool if, post-game, I'd be given the choice if I want to open up or take over someone's gym as my own.

Also, they need to add ALL the Gen V pokémon. Stop it with the stupid mystery gift shit.

In regards to Nicole, on second thought... maybe I failed cause I didn't increase the correct parameter for the guy? I personally decided to go for Darren (ain't he a cutie?) and I did have over 900 Wit at the end of the game... maybe Wit wasn't his parameter, after all? Going blind into the game, you don't know what parameter appeals to each guy. I mean, I'm pretty sure Zeal and Diligence are for Kurt and Ted, respectively. But there are also Wit and Amity, which I don't know which goes for Darren and which Jeff. Don't think the game has a manual anywhere.

edit Just looked up a guide - yes, Amity is for Darren and Wit for Jeff. So, I was basically putting points into a goddamn parameter that didn't even correspond with the guy I wanted. Well, I was suspecting this after I finished my playthrough, wondering if Wit didn't more go for Jeff - since he likes it when I prove myself to be witty and challenge his stupid ideas.

I figured out a legit problem I have with Nicole.
This isn't a 'I figured this out, your mystery is terrible' problem, but an actual problem that I don't know if it's been throught through. Why does the kidnapper grab the women? The reports of the kidnapped women mentions that they were physically fine and the kidnapper himself, when confronted, mentions that he never physically harmed them. He's not gaining anything from imprisoning them (which is what he does, he locks them into a room), he's not doing this for revenge since (aside from Nicole) none of them are mentioned to have had known the guy and, doesn't matter if Nicole is actually dating the kidnapper or someone else, so I don't think spurned love is a motive either. Fact is... THERE IS no motive.

I dunno, maybe I didn't quite get something yet, but wouldn't it make sense to explain your criminal's motive somewhere, somehow (preferably NOT in supplementary reading material not bought with the game at the same time) before you make a big mystery spun from that?

After you beat the game you can fight Team Layton, a team that consists of characters from the series.
After you defeat them Layton gives you hi's signature move. "Hammer of judgement."

I think the issue is that the game is too focused on puzzles when half the Zelda package is supposed to be combat.

Hmm even the combat in Zelda to me normally seems like a puzzle. Its all about weak points and how to access them normally using the latest gadget in a clever way.

It's basically the same issue I had with Oracle of Ages: too much puzzles, not enough balance for a Zelda game. For me, Zelda games are 1/3 Puzzles + 1/3 Combat + 1/3 Dungeon Crawling. Ages cut out the combat part, everything was a goddang puzzle and every boss was a puzzle, too. Zelda games are all about balance for me - like the Triforce! - so, when they cut out a third of the gameplay, it really gets monotonously boring for me.

*cough cough skyview temple cough ghirahim cough cough* Also, there are several enemies you can fight without weak points. (Ignoring the fact that their weakspots are way too obvious to really count as puzzles to figure out)

The puzzle aspect is honestly one of my favorite parts about the Zelda franchise and that's typically what dungeons are used for. Solve the puzzle so you can get further on in the dungeon. Enemy combat, it depends on what game it is for me as in some entries, it can run a bit stale. If the combat system is fun, like with Wind Waker and (once you get used to it), Skyward Sword, then I welcome it. As much as I love games like Oracle of Ages though, fighting in that game gets a bit bland after a while, when it just comes down to how many stabs does it take to kill an enemy?

That said though, I dunno about getting Triforce Heroes. For some reason, I dunno why, I just haven't been hyped for it.
