Meh, one of the biggest appeals about RPGs are the story.
And I should be able to go through just fine, I don't care much for the characters.

When I killed Toriel accidentally, I restarted not because I cared for her death, but because as I said, I'm going for the pacifist route.

For an extremely good reason, plus it was her intent to test you not to kill you. If you can last long enough eventually her attacks start avoiding you because she can't bear to kill you.

Life Is Strange sounds really cool, I wanna LP it, but I don't wanna get Steam or anything to play it.

Also, STILL trying to get a Shiny Mudkip for OR. At least here the resetting is a bit easier, since I don't have a fucking long scene to look at before I pick my PKMN.

I've been having the strangest urge to revisit Chrono Cross lately, so I've started playing it a few days ago. Still really don't like how cryptic picking up all the trap elements are, but it does feel great going back and listening to such a great soundtrack.

Chrono Cross is the sequel to Chrono Trigger no one ever played, right?
Would you recommend it?

The game has multiple endings, all dependent on which party member you have recruited, so you can replay dozens of times, to get all sorts of combinations together. Also, the boss has a VERY, SUPER SPECIFIC way of defeating it 'properly'. Also, there's a major subplot involving Goblins and Fairies... and both sides are racist dicks who need to shut the fuck up, cause they blame the wrong people. (read: you)

I read a recap of the game playing through, then gave up at some point early on in a Dragon Castle or something. It was kinda boring...

I like Chrono Cross, but it's definitely not for everyone. I personally think it's a great game, but it's a terrible sequel to Chrono Trigger. I personally think if you want to get the best out of it, don't think of it as a sequel to Chrono Trigger, but rather as a game that has references to it if that makes any sense.

That said though, I do enjoy the battle system a lot, it's turn based, but quite different. No random encounters are a plus! The leveling system is a bit weird. You get proper level ups from bosses, but afterwards, you'll only gain stats for a short while from random encounters, and then that stops until you beat the next boss and proceed from there. It's basically a prevention from overleveling.

The story is either a hit or miss. There are some interesting elements and split paths that would warrant more than one playthrough. Just hope you're a fan of hardly any story until the last couple of hours where it's just a massive plot dump.
You'll also be getting WAY more party members than you'll know what to do with, some with VERY annoying accents. >_< But there are others that are great too.

Equipping is similar to Chrono Trigger in that it keeps it simple. One weapon, one armor, and for this game, three accessories. Unlike CT though, if you want more powerful equipment, there is a forging system in this game. You will rarely find better equipment, but for the most part, you'll be forging. Personally, I don't find it to be bad because many characters share weapon types, so forging one upgrade on each weapon is enough.

One thing though that everyone will agree with is how fantastic the soundtrack is. There are some nice nods to Trigger as well as amazing new pieces for the game. I also really love the tropical setting the game takes place in.

Like I said, I personally enjoy the game, but I'd suggest reading up on it more or looking up game play videos to see if it'd be something you'd be interested in.

But if you do get it and like it and would want some tips further down the road, let me know. It's only $10USD on the Playstation Network.

That's because it originally never was a sequel to Chrono Trigger. It was originally a Visual Novel game called Radical Dreamers, which merely sort of took place in the Chrono (Trigger) universe.

Update on Omega Ruby. Over two-and-a-half hours later, I still have no shiny Mudkip.

I could easily have wasted those 2 1/2 hours by fighting the 256 battles for Berserk in Tales of the Abyss, before fighting Ms I-Want-To-Stab-Your-Vocal-Chords Arietta in Choral Castle, but that is just as obnoxiously boring cause the EXP is shit and there is no good circle area close to Choral Castle.

No, Cat. Radical Dreamers was a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger. Guile in that game was even revealed to be Magus looking for Schala.

And I find Chrono Cross not intending to be a sequel to Chrono Trigger hard to believe. Considering that Cross essentially started out as a remake to Radical Dreamers and was heavily expanded and the fact that the overarching plot deals majorly with a pretty significant character from Trigger. I highly doubt that it was all shoehorned in to make it relate to Trigger given the circumstances.

I've checked on development on this in the past because I was curious about Radical Dreamers and Cross was always intended to serve as a sequel to Trigger. I do, however, feel that because of how tight-knit the story is though, Radical Dreamers did the sequel better, but it's neat to see what elements from Radical Dreamers carried over to Cross, such as the Viper Manor infiltration.

Far as I recall, Radical Dreamer never flat out admitted that Guile = Magus. Chrono Trigger's DS version added a bonus dungeon, where you fought the Time Devourer (boss of Cross) and ultimately had to lose, ending with an amnesiac Magus running around in a forest, heavily implying that Guile was Magus. But nothing in RD itself.

I was mistaken. It's never flat out said, but Radical Dreamers heavily, heavily implies his real identity and Kato, the creator of the series, flat out confirm his identity. In fact, his whole reason in Radical Dreamers and as for why he was involved with the group in the first place had to do, without hopefully spoiling too much, with Kid's real identity. I was mistaken though as Magus went under the guise of Gil/Magil in that game, whereas Guile was Chrono Cross who was going to be Magus in the early drafts, but it was scrapped.

As for the DS's ending, I think it was trying to tie the plot to Chrono Cross, not Radical Dreamers. Hence why Magus never appears in Cross despite the big revolving plot that should have involved his character otherwise. I also don't recall Gil having amnesia in Radical Dreamers, but instead being well aware of what he was doing and just keeping his identity hidden.

On a bit of a tangent though, I actually find the relationship between Surge and Kid a whole lot more believeable in RD than in CC. Probably because the story is more tight knit and they have a bit of a history together and for the sole reason that Surge actually talks. Chrono Cross, it always felt WAY too forced.

I also find the subplot in Cross about Porre's take over hilarious. I know it was implied in Cross and downright stated in the DS version of Trigger that Dalton had to do with it. But in Trigger, it's just a peaceful village with a jerk mayor who makes you cluck like a chicken. I really have a hard time believing that Porre could take down Guardia AND invade El Nido. Let alone how Dalton was able to build an army from the town. Unless he was using his Golems in full force, because I know he didn't have any men of his own prior to Porre. Just one of the reasons why I don't like looking at Cross as a sequel, but I digress.

Yeah. XDD I never did say the plot of Cross was the BEST thing. And... I wanna say you can kill the Time Devourer in Cross without doing the color pattern, but you just don't get the good ending. Because you can solo it as Surge in NG+ do get extra endings and I don't see it being possible to do the color pattern with Surge solo.

What do we need an AA Theory for? The important shit is explained, so there's nothing that needs to be theorized. :eh?:
Oh, and in answer to your question, I watched a few of Game Theory videos, but decided to stop and see them as nothing but pisstakers (or, in the worse case, people who honestly think this is what really happened in the game) when they went on for several minutes, trying to convince me that Aerith actually survived being stabbed through the gut long enough to drown in the lake.

Obviously, so we can prove that Phoenix is actually the imperfect product of a scrapped government project to clone Ryuunosuke Naruhodou, with Apollo being a more successful attempt.

Not gonna lie, I am so totally down for that theory. :-P Though I've seen this post floating around the tumbler dot com that Edgeworth could be a Fey, but that seems really off and frankly impossible to believe, even with a lot of evidence.

If that´s the case you´d better steel your resolve oliver. If you start liking the characters and feel the genuine feels when you reach the ´true pacifist ending´ you´ll get tormented on your neutral run. This game is exceptional at making you feel like a terrible person if you don´t play nice.

Spoiler: my 2nd ´genocide´ run and my feels
I wanted to do both pacifist and genocide routes. Thing is I didn´t look up how to properly do this. In the first game I just spared everyone and in the latter game I killed everything I saw. BUT IF YOU DON´T COMPLETELY WIPE OUT EVERYONE YOU´LL GET A NEUTRAL ROUTE. So not knowing my mistake I got every character basically saying: You killed my friends, I get your reason, but fucking hell I hate you so much.

I don't think I ever felt this bad about playing a game. Honestly I was depressed for half a day by this, but I respect that the game could evoke that much emotion for this relatively small game and simple story.

Face your emptiness don't be afraid. The danger is often smaller than your fear.

Oh Sir Jibbey I knew I could count on you for good taste.

But shame on you for doing a second play through after a pacifist ending.

You thought you could be safe in your courts, with your laws and attorneys to protect you. In this world only I am law, my word is fact, my power is absolute.

If I make noise, a black guy will appear and kill me? Uhhh... ENIGMA, you're weird. :payne:

Yeah, I know, it's just the translation and the killer is portrayed with the Detective Conan black silhouette. I'm just making fun. And that game is really scary.

Hey, I'm not leaving practically half the game untouched because a pixelated flower told me to do so. In addition you'll never get to hear the best song in the game combined with the hardest boss, so everybody is going to have to die unfortunately
