Way to go, Marescio!

I finally unlocked hidden mode, and it's more fun than I thought. I'm still getting X's on Hard and Insane without Hidden mode, but that's to be expected. I also refuse to touch SSAY on Insane & Hidden with a ten-foot pole now.

I thought I would share this little bit of info if nobody here knew about it already...

http://osu.ppy.sh/

That's the link to a PC version of Osu if anyone is interested. There;s even a Phoenix Wright skin available for download with the Blue Badger as the spinner.

I've seen a few videos on Osu!, and some of the beatmaps look really hard, and there's no chance of me completing any levels with my lousy touchpad.

Hidden mode on Insane is a freakin' nightmare! I'm only one million points away from the third gold rank (which I think is the highest), and I can't get any higher scores on Hard with hidden mode, so I'm left with Insane mode, and I swear getting decent scores with Hidden mode is IMPOSSIBLE. As if the numbers weren't small enough. At least it goes fast enough in that you barely notice the numbers disappearing before you hit them, but they're SO SMALL.

I got to the 70000000 point rank, the second-to-highest, I had to slum it down in Easy to get the points. I still hate Insane Hidden mode.

GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

My computer doesn't have ONE tiny feature I need, and the computer in my room doesn't have internet (I post from a computer in my parent's office) so I am unable to make the program work.

Sounds fun though.

If you want to spend four to eight years trying to understand a game primarily expressed through cartoony characterizations as opposed to dialogue, then no. You won't become fluent in Japanese anytime within the next few months so you can dispell all worries. I don't understand a lick of Japanes and I enjoyed the game a lot, but that's me.

Hmm....Sounds good then....Just in case....I better ask my Asian friends to translate for me when I beat both on easy....And there has to be some sort of translation for this series.

What the hell is wrong with you? :lana:

Four to eight years? I can understand 90% of what's going on despite the language barrier. If you can't figure out what's going on, that's your problem and it probably has nothing to do with being an illiterate beatnick. I find the ones with the guy trying to pass the exams and the salaryman superhero to be the easiest to understand but that's because the body language is an easy read and so is the dialog. On the first one, I could pretty much predict the first thing he was going to shout just from looking at the situation. It's not hard. Just read it.

Even if you're like me and put a great deal of focus on the English you're using, another language is still a chore if you're unfamiliar with it. Languages never seem to follow similar rules anyhow.

Do I read stories in music games? Yes.
Do I understand the words these people are saying? Yes.
Does that make me proficient in Japanese? :yuusaku:

Comprehension is the only thing you need to worry about. Let the time when YOU need to use the language work for itself. You will never be proficient with a language that isn't used where you are.

Enough of the language. DDR has secretly moved on to something to do with the hands. You don't need a language book to figure this one out. :garyuu:

My turn!
The games were designed to give you quick glances at the continuing story before moving on to the next part of the song.
As such everything is easily understood without any knowledge of Japanese.
And for those who must have it,
There are translations available for the different parts of the games.(Ouendan1)
Bith for songs and for stories.(Ouendan2)

Zomgz!!!! :maya-shock:

Like uhmmm...Understanding WHY the language is a big syllable thingy and has 2000+ characters that change sound and meaning and miraculously work together and....Yeah. Never happening. :that-b-word:

I've barely studied for 7 months and I've made quite a bit of progress. I'm almost at the 4th grade level now. :lana:

Japanese is not a complex language. Clear that garbage from your mind right now. I could completely understand Ouendan at the 1st grade level...Minus 3 or 4 characters but whatev.

Basque is a complex mofo! If you choose to study it, remember you're diving into a black hole. :accordion-head:

When I got mine they were on e-bay for about $75-$80 together.
I got a bundle with both games together and unopened.
But $100 would be about $50 each, no to far off from what I paid.

Oh, Just found some places are selling Ouendan 2 for 29.99 (Not including shipping...) So after I can get my friend to order for me... I will be very happy.

Is the menu like EBA's? Should be seeing as EBA is the american version...

It is set up pretty much the same for both.
And even with things labeled in Japanese it's not that hard to figure out what is what.
I actually got copies for both myself and my sister so that we could use the multiplayer modes!
And if you want to be able to use EBA mode in Ouendan 2 you'll need an Action Replay.
The EBA mode was a bonus that could only be unlocked by using a Japanese DS download station bonus last summer.
The only way for a US player to get it is to Action Replay code it.
It's so worth it though. Ouendan Cat as a playable character? Oh yeah!

Why haven't I seen this thread before? >< I LOVE OUENDAN! I got it from Japan over a month ago (Playasia.com :edgy: ) and I'm still in love with it :acro: This morning I got up to Ready Steady Go with the female cheerleaders - the last level if I'm not mistaken. It's hard :lana:

My favourite level is the pottery level coz of the song Kokoro Odoru. I know it off by heart on the red-hair-guy difficulty :minuki: I also love Ready Steady Go, Shanghai Honey, Melody, Thrill... ahh I love them all!

I'm hoping to get Ouendan 2 soon. Think it's worth it?

Ouendan 2 is totally worth it. New additions allow you to skip opening and ending cutscenes and jump straight to the gameplay, you can save up to 20 (or was it 21/22?) replays (instead of one for each song, ala EBA), and once you get a high enough rank, you unlock Hidden Marker mode, which hides the timer circles and makes the numbers disappear before you hit them, and also multiplies your score. It is amazing. Get it. Get it now.

And Hidden is the most fun in any of the three games.
So yes, it is.

I've not played the first Ouendan, so I don't know how replay data is kept in that one, but in EBA, you're allowed to save only one replay for each song, regardless of difficulty. You can't save a run on both Cruisin' and Sweatin' of the same song, for example. On Ouendan 2 however, you get 20 save slots available, for you to save the replays of any song on any difficulty. You can save one for each song and have two spaces left, you can save replays of the same song on all four difficulties, save it however you want.

For the first OTO game, you can't save them.
You can replay them right after you play them (the button in the bottom left on the rank screen), but you can't save them.

Tomoyasu Hotei, the band who did Thrill in Ouendan 1, has a song in Ouendan 2 as well. Bambina. I think the rest are other artists.

Haha, I suck at Ouendan so much. I play a mean round of Taiko no Tatsujin, though!

I finally got to "Ready Steady Go" on hard difficulty, but I'm having trouble with how quickly the meter depletes. I'm really enjoying it, though. The songs on this level have some fast-paced notes.
