Blegh. I don't want to be forced to go through the game with sub-par equipment cause the better bonus won't appear. (Then again, I wanna wait and get some PSN Income, before proceeding)

You also only really need to spend it on the weapon shop so

So, what my defense equipment doesn't matter?

And I really hate it when the Casino says YOU LOSE if I say a card is higher/lower and it ends up being the same card.

For a second I thought you were talking about Splatoon up until you mentioned a casino. Splatoon has random bonuses on equipment other than weapons, which is what I thought she meant about having sub par equipment until you get the right bonuses.

So, I've been replaying "that" fight at the end of Undertale's Genocide Run.
The first time I did the Genocide Run I beat him on my third try.
This time it's taken me nearly 30. And that counter is still going up.

Ach. Don't these people know of the old western where a cheatin' house gets destroyed at polker? Then again, I think the tables in the Duval Bar are screwed to the floor...

I actually listened to the full version of Progress and Song 4 U (Xillia and Xillia 2 opening, respectively) and I think Progress is a bit better. Both are good, if you give them time... but Mutual Proof, the big song that plays during an important battle in Xillia 2, is so forgettable... it's supposedly supposed to be on-par with Meaning of Birth from Abyss. Uh, yeah, Meaning of Birth was memorable because it was an awesome arrangement of the Opening, Karma, which also was used in other variations throughout the game. So you tended to get the melody into your head several times, before hearing it in the epic battle.

The Hymn of Proof? I can never hear it when they're humming it... and given what I've learned of the Sage Kresnik, well... why would I want to admit to knowing the Sage? The Sage seems... pretty obnoxious.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Did I just read something for Xillia 2 that is never properly stated in the game?

Spoiler: Xillia 2 - Elle
That Victor in the fractured dimension ISN'T (this) Elle's father, after all? That his Elle died early and this Elle, from a different fractured dimension, teleported to his home and he took her in? If so, that makes no sense. Because if that is true, why would Victor say he is "This Elle's father"? Cause he does say that in-game! It might explain why Elle says that Ludger doesn't want anyone but the 'real Elle' just like 'her daddy told her', but... ultimately this makes no sense.

Or did I misread? Lemme check again... no, apparently, Victor met Other-Fractured-Dimension!Elle earlier, in his dimension, and then met Lara - making his romance with Lara very akin to Prime!Ludger's of seeing her and having sex with her to have Elle. OtherFD!Elle died in his dimension before he met Lara, so that the Elle we meet IS his Elle...

Oh man, I didn't sleep well... but still. Seems stupid. Especially since it changes NOTHING about my opinion of the forced-ness of Ludger's canon romance with Lara.

It was mentioned to be part of Victor's background - apparently in a supplementary reading material, so I don't count it. But still.

Hey, wait! I had a good 50 Black Feathers and talked to the guy - I didn't pick anything from his list. Did they still get consumed? Why did the game not make this clear? F U, Black Feathers dude! I'd rather buy more DLC than avoid you like the freaking plague until I have 400 of those fuckers together again!

Spoiler: Xillia
Oh, no... Cline-sama! If I hadn't played Xillia 2 first and knew this guy died in the last year, it was still pretty obvious. That huge, obvious "All will be well!" speech and music, I was waiting for him to be shot mid-speech.

You don't need 400 black feathers in your inventory to get the rewards. You just need to find 400 black feathers and give them to the guy.

Good. :ron:

I'm still trying my best to keep my judgement on Jude-Milla balanced until I finish Xillia, but I suddenly have the feeling like... I know there's a 5 year difference between them, which isn't much, but... it feels like... she's a freaking cougar! There's something about them (in my Japanese version) that makes me think Jude isn't fully aware what is gonna go on here and Milla does, which leaves me feeling icky. Like someone taking advantage of a mentally handicapped person through sex, making it legally a very gray area, because one person doesn't know the full extent and any given consent is questionable.

I just got the scene of obtaining Milla's Pendant... man that scene was awkwardly paced. And just plain awkward. :eh?:

Jude: Milla, if your legs hurt, tell me.
She's fucking paralyzed with her legs, she can't feel them! Of course she won't be able to tell you when they hurt! Gawd and you're a MED STUDENT. :ron:

I dunno... If I was a med student and a patients legs were paralysed I would want to know if they felt ANYTHING in their legs. Plus I'd expect then to feel pain from stiffness when they regained feeling. Its a sign of recovery :kristoph:

They are perma-paralyzed. She can't do anything with her legs. Besides, he said this at a point when she wasn't recovering at all. It was a stupid thing to ask.

And even so, I think Milla would, regardless of how silly of a 'human' she is, I think she would tell Jude, if she suddenly felt a change in her legs, med stundent or not.

Is the grinding just as tedious as in Vesperia? I distinctly remember going all over the world to make 1 setup for Rita (the mage), make sure each of her hits did 1 damage and spam the multi-hitting tidal wave move which traps and hits all enemies on the field to build 9000 hit combos if enemies had 9000hp to get that grade.

Not to mention that other party members are constantly use their taunts (which gets annoying pretty fast) so 1: they don't kill the enemy and 2: to fill overdrive meter so Rita could spam tidal wave faster. Hell during that mode she literally gets bored of her own shit and replaces the full incantation for the spell with:"blah blah blah, TIDAL WAVE!"

but you need to put in that effort for the 10x experience perk right?
Face your emptiness don't be afraid. The danger is often smaller than your fear.

Dunno, haven't played Vesperia. But what I'm doing now is getting titles/grade and trophies for using each character's innate ability and link-up ability 50 times, 150 times and then 450 times, with the last being the trophy one. With some, it's really easy to do them - I played sometimes as Milla for my second playthrough and got her three Leader titles over the course of the game and Muzét's Support Warp is really easy and fast to pull off - but others take a long time.

For example, Muzét's Emergency Warp (Leader innate ability) means I have to set her to manual, tell the party to back off and let her get hit, so I can dodge and use the warp. Boring and annoying. Rowen's arte tuning is okay, though the constant "(Spell incantation)... (Spell name)! How about this?" when using arte tune gets... annoying to listen to.

Honestly, I'd say yes, it is a major grind and very, very boring. Alvin's Charge ability is especially annoying because only the first Charge in the battle counts. So, yay, I get to do 450 battles of Alvin charging once, killing everything and running into more battles. :ron: (As long as I remember to keep having food, I should get the last eating title, too... I miss cooking...)

Man, why can't I earn grade the way I did in Abyss or Symphonia? Through battles? At least that way, I had a reason to grind battles.

Quote:

Well, I have something like 7.000 Grade right now and had 5.000-something before, which allowed me 5x EXP and other stuff. Though if I want to take over Extractors and 10x EXP, guess I need a bit more. I have no intentions of unsealing the weapons or playing on Unknown. That's one thing.

Well, not-killing things can take up more turns (especially when you're trying to figure out how to not-kill things), leading to more damage. Plus, from what I could tell, killing enemies resulted in more gold and experience... which would then make it easier to kill enemies, etc etc, in a virtuous cycle.

I know this forum isn't very pirate-friendly so remove this post if I'm breaking any rules, but I'm not asking for any ROMs or the like

Anyway, I've been trying to get into VNs recently and downloading them illegally pretty much is the easiest way to do it (either the game is too expensive, the company is out of business, or that it's more time efficient than learning Japanese). Obviously I wouldn't download one like Stein's Gate but with other games, the process is just so fucking complicated and time-consuming to simply get the game to work

And yeah, I know that I'll get replies like "Well if you're downloading illegally you have no right to complain about how complicated it is yadayada..." and I understand, but this shit isn't easy and I just wanted to vent about it

Edit: It's even worse if you're a Mac user ;-;

This would more go into the vent thread then. Also, compicated? Hm... depends. I've had my share of having difficulty getting certain games, but in general I find it not that hard.

By the way, Ivar got that message from the bird and I'm supposed to head to Libari Hollow next, I think... how much longer?
And by God, Xillia... at least Symphonia attempted to hide who the traitor in the group was. With Alvin, you not only blatantly make it obvious, the first reveal that Alvin is part of Ark Noah (Exodus) is mentioned casually. Like, "Oh, yeah. He's a traitor. You know. No biggie." :ron:

By the way, Ivar got that message from the bird and I'm supposed to head to Libari Hollow next, I think... how much longer?
And by God, Xillia... at least Symphonia attempted to hide who the traitor in the group was. With Alvin, you not only blatantly make it obvious, the first reveal that Alvin is part of Ark Noah (Exodus) is mentioned casually. Like, "Oh, yeah. He's a traitor. You know. No biggie." :ron:

I'm not talking about the character - I'm talking about how the developers presented it. I mean, Kratos was kind of suspicious in Symphonia to begin with, and you had Refill repeatedly mention "I'm surprised you know that, as a mercenary". So, you kind of had hints, but nothing big. Of course, this made the other traitor in your group more obvious - especially since he kept disappearing.

Alvin... man, Namco, I know that Xillia was horribly rushed and that it has multiple story aspects that are call backs to the previous Tales Ofs. But that doesn't mean you can just throw shit in there and treat it like no big deal. For one, if you honestly wanted this anniversary title to be a call back to the older games, but you don't treat any plot twist like an actual twist, you may give nostalgia to the players who like that stuff. But you are also horribly alienating potentially new players and fans of the entire franchise. Why would I want to play more games, if this one treats a traitor in the group like no big deal? If they don't care, why should I?

As for Alvin himself... he seems nothing special. (Also, I think I missed a sub-event, but the door that I think I was supposed to go through was locked)

But I got Elly back and she's so adorable, I wanna squish her. Anyway, when does the Kresnik Lance stuff happen?

with the jumbled mess of story threads holding the game back, the way Alvin constantly betrays everyone with nobody batting an eye is just (comedic) gold.

If the characters joked more about it, I might find it funnier. As it is, it feels like more pointless addition to the story that could have been cut and fixed the pacing issues. Like, okay, so getting Milla's handicapped legs fixed makes them work, but they hurt with every step... who the fuck is she supposed to be, the motherfucking LITTLE MERMAID!?

...Not entirely what I wanted to say there. But it definitely feels like it. But it feels like a pointless addition especially since, until I did an optional subevent, I didn't even KNOW that her legs hurt despite getting fixed!

Instead of putting this stupid shit in, why not remove it, alter scenes and have taken the time those scenes would have taken up to fix the pacing and finish the damn game?

Wow, forgot button configuration was a thing in MM0, would have killed to be able to map dash to R in the X series

Is there a specific reason to get good mission ranks besides bragging rights? I know there's an elf in Ciel's room you need an A rank or higher to get, anything else?

In the first game, it's mostly just that cyber-elf. In the second and third games, ranks decide whether you can obtain EX Skills from fighting bosses. Don't remember their purpose in the fourth game.
