Nah, you're cool. It's just weird to me seeing all these kids growing up and realizing that they were born after the N64 came out that it feels so old to them. Oddly enough, I don't feel old at all, but it's strange seeing a new generation of gamers.

I get the same feeling, but seeing as how I was pretty much raised a gaming generation behind, my memories mostly stem from NES and SNES titles, with the occasional gem from the N64.

EARTHBOUND FUN FACT: The New Game music uses a portion of the 'Liberty Bell March' sped up and slowed down. Also, the New Age Retro Hippy (No, I'm serious) battle music closely resembles the song 'Johnny B. Goode'. This tradition continues in Mother 3, an example being the Mr. Batty twist, whose intro is an obvious reference to the theme from the 1960's Batman Show.

I don't think age is the problem with me, it's the feeling of nostalgia despite being only a teen.

Holy crap, now I do feel old O_o

I can remember pooling together allowance money with my brother in order to buy an SNES.

I pretty much did the same thing with my sister, though with individual games rather than consoles. This in turn led to a series of awkward situations where we pooled money for months to get a game we wanted, then beat it in the span of a few days.

I'm sorry, I didn't make this thread to make people feel old. I made it to reminisce about our favorite video games from a long time ago.

Hahaha, it's fine. No offense taken by your posts. It's actually nice to have been a witness to all the progression over the years. I'm just amazed that I even still have an interest in video games in 2010.

My absolute favorite game from the NES would be Contra
it is a simple, but hard, yet with awesome and with easy controls attached game
Nowadays I enjoy playing it via internet and emulator with a friend of mine and we both enjoy it
I can't say if it is too old but my absolute fav PSX game would be MGS1 . Gotta love how they looked like there and how enemies you just killed simply disappear
Yeah, the good ol' games. When games were an actual challenge . . .

Agreed. Games today seem far too easy, and when they are hard, it's usually not the game itself being a challenge, but shoddy gameplay/camera/controls/difficultycurve/crow.

I also loved MGS1, partly because it was still primarily a stealth game, and running and gunning was not an option.

you have forgotten crappy graphics or a bad story. I mean the good ol' games had no real story, which means no expectations, however nowadays we players demand a great story but that often fails so the game turns out like shit and they stop caring about the graphics.
About MGS gun and run: To be bloody honest I like that you can shoot in the first person view

While that is true, those aren't a part of the difficulty problems. And who says the good ol' games can't have a good story? Not something convoluted, but enough to give the player some sense of purpose.

I also agree with you about MGS. I just didn't really like that in MGS3, just to give an example, you could go through the whole game without really being stealthy at all.

one question
Did you ever played MGS3 on Hard, Extreme or Eurpoean Extreme?
Without stealth on those difficulties, you fail very fast

About camera changes: What is your opinion about RE4/5? since the camere there changed totally

Yes, but I'm going by Normal difficulty. (Not that you don't have a true point, just that I prefer to gauge gameplay by the 'middle' difficulty. And yes, I do know about the Alert Game Over mode, I'm just going by the 'standard.')

(Though I've never heard of European Extreme, care to enlighten me?)

It's an even harder difficulty
Enemies, traps and animals make more damage and stuff
also your life gauge is very low and you lose stamina very fast
additionally your ammo is very very low

Wait, that's the added difficulty from the re-release, right? I wouldn't know, because I've unfortunately only played the original.

I thought so. If I ever get the chance, I should get that, see if I'm any better at it than the original. (I'm saying this because, in the original, the camera always seemed to get in my way,)

another example of how newer games get easyier
in Snake Eater you have the usual camera
however in subsistence you got a free third person view

Mario Kart 64 (and Double Dash but I don't know how "Old School that is"), Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time for the N64, Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages and Seasons (have them both in my game case) and Pokemon Silver and Crystal for the GBC, Super Smash Bros. for the N64, Donkey Kong 64, Bomberman 64, Breath of Fire III and Legend of Mana for the PSX. Plus Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town for the GBA.

And... Snowboard Kids 2 for the N64. How 'bout that one?

Don't get me started on GC games.

I liked Mario Kart when it wasn't all about items-spawnage
back on the 64 I loved to play it
However the newer ones are total like:Let's get as much itemas as goes

Classic SMB stage would like to have a word with you, as would Saffron City and it's Pokemon-spawning elevator.

True, *Grabs picket sign saying 'SAVE THE CHANSEYS... AND HAPPINY'S TOO, I GUESS.'*

On topic though, why the heck did they get rid of Chanseys as a Poke-ball option? They were pretty much the Party Ball, but less annoying and less likely to explode.

Well, yes, but they steal the THUNDAAA! of far superior giant pink monsters, especially Chansey and Wigglytuff. (Also, PMD2 Wigglytuff is the most awesome thing on the planet, so there.)

Eh, Clefairy's acceptable, Chansey line makes a great defensive wall, and Jigglypuff line is made of awesome.

Also, since I haven't done one in a while, EARTHBOUND FUN FACT: In all three games in the series, you never truly fight the final boss. In Mother, you defeat Giegue by singing the Eight Melodies you learned earlier. In Earthbound, you defeat Giygas by praying, until literally YOU, the player, deal the final blow, and in Mother 3, you essentially defend until the ghost of someone very important to the plot shows up and your opponent essentially commits suicide.
