Chrom I think will be a guarantee.

Though whatever, just having a copy of Smash Bros I can take out to fight friends with portably will do me fine. Still hoping Sonic and Snake return.

And slightly off-topic, my character wishlist gave me a new idea for a ship:

Nephenee/Donnel

WHAT HAVE I DONE?!

More craziness as to who will never in any reality be in the game:
-Worf (during his DS9 years)
-Marcus Cole
-Malcolm Reynolds
-Mara Jade
-Mama Mia, here I go again...
-Major Motoko Kusanagi
-Eren Jäger

I really didn't plan all those "Ma-" names, I swear.

Obligatory Shulk on every one of my posts, this'll be the last one in small, I swear.

While at first I wasn't really excited over the reveal of the Villager and the Wii Fit Trainer, I kind of want to see even more unconventional fighters now. As a whole, the new Smash Bros games look great, though not as exciting as a reveal as Brawl was.

Also, does this mean that the Wii Fit trainer and the Villager will be in the 3DS one? They didn't seem to have any screenshots of them in that version on the site while Megaman and the others did appear. Sakurai said that both WiiU/3DS versions would have the "same amount of characters" but does this necessarily mean they'll share the same ones?

Some character predictions:

Prince Fluff (Kirby's Epic Yarn)
Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles)
Hades (Kid Icarus: Uprising)
Tom Nook (Animal Crossing)
Professor Layton (Professor Layton and the whatever)

Sakurai told us that the only differences between the versions are Stages, and the visuals. Other than that, we'll be getting the same characters and stuff.

Yeah, he's already said they'll have the same rosters, just different art styles and stages. The stages in the 3DS version will be based on mainly handheld games, and the Wii U version's stages will be based mostly on home console games.

I'm hoping Marth will make a return, possibly in his redesign from Awakening. And as long as he won't end up another clone character, I'm hoping Chrom will appear to replace Ike as the obligatory second Fire Emblem character.

Hey, if Starfox can get three, Fire Emblem surely can too. There's plenty of characters to be used. Perhaps the Black Knight...

Marth wasn't in Awakening I thought? Though Marth was never a clone character he was the original.

Yes, I'm talking about the DLC.

Spoiler: FE Awakening
Probably using Marth's redesign as a means to avoid spoiling those who haven't played the game the significance of Lucina I guess.

I actually agree with what Blak said earlier. Get rid of the clones.
Get rid of Luigi, Ganondorf, any Star Fox guy that is not Fox, remove the Pokémon (maybe keep Pikachu cause EVERYBODY knows and supposedly loves Pikachu), remove Ike.... I wouldn't care if the rooster is smaller. Better than having a rooster full of clones that move the same way. "Hey look, I have mastered to control these 10 Super Smash Bros characters!" will no longer be a great feature.

So in that case, I hope they don't bring in any more Fire Emblem characters. Actually, remove Olimar, he was such a weird character to have in there, anyway..... ditto Sonic. Why was he even put in?

And Luigi's been in Smash Bros since the first game you can't get rid of him! Plus this is the year of Luigi!

Luigi was there from the start? ....probably, I semi-forgot the rooster for Melee. Oh yeah, he was an unlockable. Still, I stand by it. Some of the rooster additions for Brawl were already weird to me, but I literally went "What the fuck is HE doing here!?" when Sonic appeared in Subspace Emissary. Get rid of those and stick to Nintendo characters.
And get rid of the clones, I stand by that.

Keep Luigi. He's been a secret character since the original, and should stay that way. Olimar should return, also. He's the only representative for Pikmin, and it deserves/needs one.

Any clone that doesn't have any significance can go, though. Ganondorf/Falco/Wolf, this means you. Pokemon Trainer/Ike can take a break from this one in my opinion, as well.

Meta Knight needs a big smack with the nerf hammer, too. If he returns, of course.

Melee wasn't the first Smash game you know O.o
He was a secret character in 64.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having characters like Olimar in the game. He's a Nintendo IP, so that gives them every right to have him represent Pikmin.
And I can already tell that this game isn't for you. Seeing as how Megaman's in the game and you don't like having third-party characters.
Smash Bros has always been a fanservice game, and adding iconic characters like Snake and Sonic, who have also appeared on Nintendo consoles, is just more fanservice.

Also, Ganon can stay if and only if they completely rework his moveset. Make him less like Captain Falcon and give him moves from his games, and then he'll be fine

Just so long as they don't make him slow as f**k and give him useless moves, sure. Like that one where he lifts his leg up in the air and slams it down when he feels like it :yuusaku:

Oh yeah wasn't that move, like, up B or something? I know I used it a lot cause the button combo was one I used a lot.... man was Ganondorf a terrible addition.

I know the first Smash Bros was 64 - I played it with my brother. It's just that Melee is somewhat more prominent in my memory.

Olimar is useless. He has weird moves, controls weirdly and even his moves seem.... dumb. Why add him in, it was obvious his moves would center on being a slave-driver making the Pikmin fight for him. He's just.... so.... what? Makes no sense to have him in. It's like Skyward Zelda, she doesn't do anything in Skyward. But if she got put into a fighting game and got fighting moves, it'd feel just as awkward cause... she never did anything like that originally. Olimar is the same.

And Sonic is a total SEGA thing, so if somebody sees Sonic in a Nintendo Game, yeah it's fanservice. But it's off. Like having a Zelda game on a Playstation Console. It's just off. And I believe I have mentioned that I really can't get very excited over Mega Man. Mostly cause I didn't play much of him as a kid. I remember playing one Mega Man game that had the red one in it... Zero.

I think Midna would make a great playable character...I was slightly disappointed when she didn't show up in Brawl...Then again there was already quite a few Zelda characters in that game.

Luigi barely qualifies as a clone anymore. Unique Down B and Side B his upper B and neutral B have unique properties. Unique final smash instead of just a green equivalent of Mario's Mega Fireball, unique standard attacks different from Mario's.

Wolf is unique in that he's a 'heavy' representative from the Fox crew so I'd like him to stay in over Falco though perhaps make some of his moves a bit different.

Also Sonic (and Sega) is now apparently exclusive to Nintendo supposedly so if anything he belongs in more than he did before.

Seriously guys in the silly for-fun fanservice crossover brawler you are really asking "Why was 'popular character' put in?" as if they need some weird reason to be there? Get a grip.

It's not a matter of just mechanics it's more than anything how recognisable and fun (and occasionally hilarious- lookin at you Wii Fit trainer) they could be to get in.

All this talk of cut cut cut is just sad. I actually liked how unique Olimar was, I had a hilarious moment when my friend kept trying to take me with Bowser on Mario Kart track and I kept lobbing Pikmin at him with purples until the cars came to send him flying after stalling him for ages with pikmin.

lol wut

Luigi is totally not a clone. Olimar is from Pikmin, so I doubt they're going to cut him, considering Pikmin 3 is coming out. I'd almost be certain that Sonic is in due to the a) Exclusivity agreement as well as b) Console Wars of Sega vs. Nintendo.

No Pierre! Fighting gaemz are surious businzess! I don't want silly characters in them! There should only be cool characters, and nothing else. Do you even know how upset I was when Phoenix Wright was announced for UMVC3? Talk about a wasted slot. Could've put Ultron in, but nope we got a lawyer who can't even fight!

That Wii fit trainer? Dumb! That full screen final smash looks OP. Same goes with Psycho-Villager! He's just too cray cray. I don't like him.

I'm pretty sure you're satyrical about this, Blak, but I have to admit that's my thought.

I get it that there needs to be a balance of funny characters and serious characters in fighting games, but overall I generally believe that funny characters have no business in fighting games. Zack from Dead or Alive - total goofball and supposed to be funny. Hate him, he's a waste of space. Only thing he did was give us DoAXtreme Spin Offs, the one thing I'm grateful for. Except for that whole Sunscreen-Requires in X2 to avoid tanning lines...

He was clearly joking.
Joke/funny characters are a fighting game tradition. Phoenix Wright, Dan from Street Fighter, Dr Baldhead/Faust from Guilty Gear, Zack as you put it from DOA, Panda/Kuma and Roger for Tekken, Bang Shishigami for Blazblue, Teddie from Persona 4 Arena.

If there's a problem it's just with your own personal feelings about fighting games in general but this kinda thing has been going on for a long time.

SSBs is a sillier series than most so it has more funny characters in it. I don't even consider it a serious fighting game and I dislike people at parties who insist upon "no items" "final destination" because they want a cold-hard simple fight. The greatest fun I've had with Melee is enjoying that chaos and the hilarity that goes with it.

My friend uses Kirby's down-B to anvil towards me. The stage is Frigate Orpheon and it flips just so that he plummets to his doom while I double jump to safety. The game is paused and the room explodes into laughter. Fun is had. I hate it when people try and make this game heavy-duty serious.

However you claim "you get" why joke and funny characters have to be a thing. The characters you complained about aren't even that jokey or funny. Olimar isn't funny and Sonic is a competent fighter in his own canon and so isn't a joke. Mr Game and Watch is a joke character but your examples aren't.

Just accept that SSB's is a bit of a silly fun series and if that burns your mind so much just don't buy it.

Maybe you should reassess your reasons for buying things if you buy things that 80% of which you hate and will complain about when it's not actual flaws and is more personal opinion.

I didn't say I would buy the new Smash Bros. Plus I never paid a single cent for any of the GS games played Plus, how can I find out about something and form an opinion about it if I don't play it myself? I can view gameplay videos or reviews, but that's somebody else's opinion or experience. I can't just take that at face value.

Why not? We take things from other people all the time. There's a substantial industry from other people telling others what they think. You've repeatedly mentioned how you like VGR then you come here and said not long ago "I was watching VGR do X and it made me realise Y" about something. You can totally take something else and make it your opinion, that's the beauty of opinions we can form them from our own experiences. You may not call it first-hand experience but reviews videos and whatnots still count as experience towards forming your own opinion, just more information to add to the fire that forges your own knowledge. It comes down to what we trust in, you'd think if your husband said something you'd consider that information reliable and allow it to add to your opinion yeah? Going in with no information is just fullhardy.

Allow me to make a sweeping comparison-
You have suspicions about a game based on the previous ones in the series, you've picked up occasional snippets of information here and there but nothing about the quality of the game. You decide the only way to form an opinion is to experience it yourself and so you buy it. Are disappointed and go on to complain at the end of the day.

Another scenario-
You are leading a platoon in a war-torn area and you have your suspicions the next town has some combatants waiting to ambush you, you've picked up occasional snippets of information here and there but nothing really concrete about the size or equipment of the hostile forces. You decide the only way to form an opinion on it is to experience it yourself so you lead your men into the city. You are ambushed and your platoon is wiped out due to inconsistent information.

It is PERFECTLY ok and even natural to do research, form opinions and then decide whether or not we want to buy a game, in that way we can avoid pointless suffering for ourselves by choosing what we want to play. It's the essence of human choice you've tried to deny here.

Point is if you dislike something so much and have very little interest in it unless A-Z in it is changed to your whims, perhaps you just shouldn't say anything at all and ignore it.

Let me say it like this... realizing that Tidus is the worst Final Fantasy character created up to this point? Didn't require me to read VGR's recape of Final Fantasy X, where they constantly display their hatred for him, wishing he'd shut up and die already. (Thankfully, he does that in the end)
Realizing that fingerprints are missing from the murder weapon in DL-6 and wondering if Karma took the time in his weirded-out state to wipe the gun? That's a detail they really go into and makes me realize that it's something worth thinking about.

And your scenarios are weird.
The first one not so much, but the second one is. I could go for the third option and say "Go around the next town" or "Send in spies" or similar. In terms of games, I generally look at gameplay videos or even just the box and synopsis of the game prior to buying it, to see if it even gets enough of my interest to get me to actually try it out.

Yes! That is precisely it! You get more information to form an opinion about something then you determine whether you have to or not. You don't have to forge an opinion from your own experience.

Perhaps this would be easier if you told me what you liked about the SSB series because maybe you do actually like the game and you just coincidentally only mention stuff worth complaining about.

Maybe we should stop talking, we've proven often enough that our opinions are too different and we can never really agree on a point.

Let me say it like this.
Smash Bros = Nice cross-over idea
Melee Rooster = Neat choice
Brawl Rooster = Had some additions that didn't seem necessary (Sonic, Snake, Ike, Pikmin, etc)
Newest Rooster = What new characters they showed seemed pointless

Well that's why I suggested you say what you like about it (other than the roster).

Though like I said it's a fanservice game, being popular alone is enough to get in and those characters are indeed popular I remember folks going nuts over Sonic being in Brawl. Also at least Ike was notably different to Marth unlike poor Roy.

Yeah, Ike is noticably different to Marth, his attacks are a bit slower, and he's weightier all round, Roy was pretty much a carbon copy but with fire.

Hell, Smash Bros as a series has always been all about "I want to see Mario/Yoshi/Kirby beat the shit out of Fox/Captain Falcon/Sonic, etc." And Olimar getting some Smash Bros love was great, since Pikmin's an awesome series, and it's all about the fanservice (and he fights by using Pikmin, which is quite different from the other fighters."

I will agree that they're unnecessary, but they're unecessary in the way adding cream to a bowl of strawberries is unnecessary, you don't need it for the strawberries to be good, but those with a sweet tooth sure do appreciate the cream being there.

Anyway, can we get past the whole "Serious fighter vs party game" attitude and get on to the real issue at hand...just what will Villager's Final Smash be?

Hah! You thought I'd mention Shulk here! Wait...dammit...

Hmm summon Tom Nook and put all the other fights in horrible debt to him thus forcing them to retire from the fight to work to pay off his debt?
