Well, the way it was said was that there are parents who don't quite understand how to use the parental control on their kids' 3DS and the kids can still unlock it and turn the 3DS effect on. Or this is for parents who simply didn't buy a 3DS for their kids because of the 3D effect or because it was too expensive.

Personally, It sounds kinda silly, but since it has more battery life and the buttons are closer to the screen, it might be interesting, although I prefer the 3DS.
