This begs the question: Did you play the game when it came out or years later after having been spoiled by ignorant Internet users?

No matter how much you are spoiled to a scene, it should have the same emotional impact if it's properly done. I'm sorry to say, but that death scene was arguably the worst I've seen myself.

I didn't want to agree with Gears's post because of how damn stupid it was, but Hatman's wording works.

Yeah, I agree.

I havn't played VII either, but I'll still have to say that I find it unlikely that Aeris dying would be a sad moment. I mean, the killer is a way more populair character than the killed. Why bother? You don't see people crying tears over certain vicitms in Ace Attorney when the killers on the other hand are insanely more popular.

Sadness in video game first of all requires you to be emotionally attached. If not, all it will do is make you yell "Yeah! Whoo! Kill that bitch! Yeeeeah! Whoo! More blood! Hahahah!" (perhaps in a less o.O tone.)

Spoiler: Ocarina of Time... highlight this okay
When Link returned to Hyrule as an adult (he was in deep slumber, sealed in the Sacred Realm for 7 years):

1. .... the King was killed, leaving the Princess orphaned & the evil one reigns the throne

2. "Time is cruel" quoth Sheik & the story went "Saria will always be... your friend" (the forest sage will remain as a child but Link gets older & no one else in Kokiri forest knows him anymore)

3. The town in Hyrule Castle's boundaries has been totally destroyed & the monsters there are really the dead citizens of the perished town

4. You found out that Dampe also, is already R.I.P & many others are probably dead as well

:keylady: Hmmmm... whatever, it is time to fly return~ :edgy:

the first time i ever felt truly sad about a moment in a videogame was at the end of Sonic Adventure 2

Spoiler: end of the final story of SA2
Sonic and shadow are trying to stop the space station from crashing into the earth. shadow uses the last of his strength do tleleport the space station. Why? because he promised his life long friend that he would protect the earth.

Sonic returns to the space station. when they ask where shadow is, he just looks down, sad

the icing on the cake is that when sonic leaves the space station, he says "Sayonara, shadow the hedgehog". the very thing that his life long friend said the moment she died...

I swear to god, i almost started crying.
of course it was a long time ago that i first played this.

Well, I might feel bad about something if I'm really attached to the game, but sad? I dunno.

If anything, it would have to be Cubone's mother in the first Pokemon games. I was maybe seven and it was my first videogame, so that was a big 'what the hell?' moment.

I get kinda sad at the end of any long game though.

Spoiler: Because everyone else has theirs in one.
Especially OoT. After everything you did, Zelda basically ereased it so you could have a normal life. Which I really thought was odd. I don't think that anyone could get over what Link had witnessed.

And the look on Zelda's face when she saw him at the end of the credits. It always struck me as a 'who are you?' type of look.

I've seen some sad moments in games. But no videogame ever made me cry except one.

Trials and Tribulations [and very very minor AJAA]
Spoiler:
Pretty much the whole last part of the second trial in the last case. I'm sure I'll miss a few parts that struck my emotions, but I'll give what I can remember right off. Misty Fey's death was emotional mostly because of the things she said about Maya, and how she seemed ashamed to even be around her own daughter.

It made me sad when everything about Godot was revealed. I already knew because I had spoiled it for myself before I played, but for some reason, when I played it, it was a lot sadder. The whole part about how he woke up with no one waiting for him and all that.

When Iris and Phoenix talked in court for the last time. It made me even sadder to notice how it seemed that by the looks of AJAA, they probably never get anywhere with each other even after she gets out of jail (or prison).

Seriously, I loathe FFVII and what it stands for, but there were better moments in that game than Aeris' death.

I suppose it's just the music fits so well in it. And well.....she was the last of her race. Yes, Sephiroth is badass but I suppose it was the irony that kinda set the mood.
Spoiler: Irony
The fact Cloud was about to kill her and how she looked up at him and smiled and then...... *stab* she's dead. I guess it was the mood of it really....... :/

Well, I guess some of the saddest video games moments for men were

PW-T&T-Case 3-5
Spoiler:
When everyone thinks Maya killed herself by jumping from the bridge.

I knew she didn't but at that moment, I felt just like Nick.

...er...that's basically it.

Sad moments?

I'll try my hand at one, but it's not gonna be good.

Spoiler: Way of the Samurai 2 - Magistrate Ending
When the Magistrate is forced to commit seppuku to wash away the shame of Amahara in the shogun's eyes. Especially since YOU are the one who's gonna assist him. They should have totally made a minigame out of it, though. If you botch it, Goshiro stabs you.

Well then don't open the spoiler tags. After all, that's why the tags are there.

Spoiler: NHL 97 on SNES
When my tactique didn't work.

I usually went on one player and just skated right towards to the goalie of the team I was playing against. When my guy hit the goalie, the pucket went through his legs to the goal and I scored. After that, I got also an penalty and I lost one of my players. And then I did it again.

But sometimes this didn't work and I was really sad. Good memories.

Seriously, you need a better plan for 0wn1n6 the enemies to avoid any of them being killed. I hate anyone to die and tried my best to keep them all alive & I succeeded. I suggest that you thoroughly... wait, that'll be a spoiler if I tell you! Even an elementary school student uses the same strategy as I did so you just gotta use more brainpower in this case.... Isn't Aerith the Japanese name... and Aeris is the North American? Or is it the other way around... cause when I played it was Aeris...

I've pretty much gotta say Aeris' death. Damn you Sephiroth!

Spoiler: Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
Grey Fox's "death", as well as Gustava's. Yes, I know Grey Fox comes back in MGS, but it was still a touching moment.

Spoiler: Metal Gear Solid 2
Emma's death, which was odd, since Emma annoyed the shit out of me. Sure, she was hot, but I somehow doubt that's what made it sad for me.

Spoiler: Metal Gear Solid 3
The Boss's death wasn't so sad for me the first time through as much as EVA's revelation of The Boss's true mission. However, every time I played after that, The Boss's death got to me.

Spoiler: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney- Justice For All
Acro's admission of guilt and the note on the back of Celeste's photo.

Spoiler: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney- Trials and Tribulations
The death of Terry Fawles, pretty much any time it's alluded to that Maya may already be dead in the last trial, and the revelation that Misty gave up her own life to save Maya and Pearl, not to mention Godot's involvement in the whole thing.

Spoiler: Final Fantasy VI
Celes's attempted suicide.

Spoiler: Final Fantasy IX
Vivi watching Black Waltz No. 3 kill his Black Mage brethren. Freya learning that Fratley was alive, only to find that he remembered nothing. The whole party trying to convince Zidane that he doesn't have to keep them away. Ha, and people call this one of the worst FFs.

Spoiler: Final Fantasy X
Tidus's sending.
