I tend to speak in german sometimes instead of english, even though Im in America.

I only seem to curse at the machine or the mechanics of the game, and I dont normally curse.

I have to drink something or else I go crazy. Usually on a long session, I drink three or four bottles of water by the end.

Though on handhelds, I usually just curse at things in the game.

>D *digs this topic up*

I can't play videogames in the dark (at night) unless the videogame is happy-go-lucky otherwise it will strengthen my fear of the dark.

I can't play an 8-bit videogame unless someone is in the room with me because sometimes 8-bit music puts a chill down my spine.

I tend to get lazy and goof off doing other things in Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, what-have-you before heading to the next required location.

I can't lay on my back while playing a handheld it ruins my focus and I'm afraid my handheld will fall on my face.

When playing an RPG I'm always OCD about losing health and I tend to heal a lot.

I must always play as Princess Daisy when playing Mario Party otherwise I'm gonna suck.

I usually do commentary out loud to myself when playing RPGs. Sometimes it's just acting the conversation out loud, sometimes it's jokes I make, commentary on something that could be an innuendo in the game. Other times, if I know the spoilers, I sometimes say them out loud.
My current goal is to interpret the Skyward Sword dialogue between Link and Ghirahim in my own way, only hearing their sound effects. It's fun!

Spoiler: Examples of Spoiler-Comments
Final Fantasy XIII-2
Whenever Sera says something about after her journey and similar, I always say, "Well, you're gonna be dead, so whatever" and I had quite a lot of fun doing this on my first playthrough.

Tales of Symphonia
Just staring at Kratos and Lloyd during skits, I just scream, "How can somebody not notice the family resemblance?"

Skyward Sword
Practically anything Zelda says prior to the Sealing Scene, I go, "Yes, do what I tell you to, Link, for I am the great Hylia! I mean Zelda... I mean... I don't even remember who I am anymore..."

For certain games or certain moments, I mute the sound.
Pokémon games I generally play without sound, so I mostly listen to PBG or Nostalgia Critic videos while playing. Whenever I do one of the Silent Realms in Skyward Sword, I mute the TV and play my own music. Imprisoned battles in the same game get muted, cause that's one of the BGMs in the game that I hate. In Final Fantasy XIII, I try very hard to avoid using Vanilla's Gestalt Drive, but if I do, I generally mute while she's screaming like she's having a rather immodest orgasm on Hecatoncheir.

Oh, depending on the game, I sometimes stop and stare at something or someone important and just rant at them about something in the game. Example, when the Imprisoned is about to erupt, I always head to the inside doors of the Sealed Temple, go into 1st-Person-View and stare at the crystal in there and start ranting and yelling.

Mostly, I sit on my computer chair to play games. I sort of sit sloppily, it's sort of comfortable. But I can't play standing up or lying down, the latter just makes my neck hurt too much.

Wow, I have more than I ever took notice of.

When I'm playing a tedious or a difficult part in a game, I usually do a running commentary on what I'm playing inside my head. It's always very detailed as well. For example when I'm stuck on a difficult part in Mario, I think things like "Walk over there, OK. Now jump to...that...platform...YES! Now all you have to do is go over there...." and so on. It helps me get through it.

I also talk to the characters out loud. Usually to blame my failure on them and to ask them why they did it. (^^;;

Ahahaha!
I do the same thing.
"Noel, don't walk next to the overpowered Behemoth, you clod!"
"Link, who told you to do a roll off the Imprisoned?!"
"God, Link, you're so stupid!"
"Duuude, what the hell~!?"

When playing on-rails shooters like Time Crisis or Crisis Zone, ones which have a dodge or duck mechanism. I would literally duck and dodge at the arcade when the character did. Looked silly I'm sure but it was immersive and fun.

For some reason in RPGs whenever I'm in a battle whenever I select an option instead of pressing A once, I mash it. Probably caused by FFXIII. I hate that game.

Why would XIII cause you to mash A button over and over? Don't tell me Auto-Battle cause mashing A over and over while your leader is doing something doesn't affect anything.

Lately, my snack to eat while playing games is tortilla chips with a traditional tomato sauce from a jar. It has to be that sauce cause it's fresh and has these nice chunky bits of tomato and onion in it that are great to pick up with the chips. And yes, I am too lazy to - and don't see the point of - making a homemade tomato sauce just for a quick snack.

I'm not a die-hard fan of XIII, I'm just a die-hard hater for people who keep spouting the shit of "This game plays itself", "Auto Battle is the only thing that exists" and similar. Taking just five minutes with the battle system and not using Auto Battle will prove how bad the AI is and how manual input is much better.
Just like MarzGurl's stupid Review of the game, where she first complained about the normal battles being boring and how she skipped a ton of them and then had the BALLS to complain that the bosses were too tough to fight!?

You've beat the game...several times I believe...and you are buying it again (the Asian version) I think to play it again rather than for pure collector's value.

I don't really know what level of fan to define you as if not die-hard.

It happens to me most often now in Chrono Trigger, a game that requires actual strategy in battle in order to progress.

- I tend to lean forward from my chair when playing videogames, meaning I'm literally on the edge of my seat.

- When concentrating hard I lose the ability to speak properly. So talking with friends and fighting games don't mix

- In pretty much any games where stuff can be found in 'hidden places' (drawers/trashcans etc.) I look EVERYWHERE for ANYTHING and take crazy long to get from A to B.

Same here. About 8 of the 10 minute Resident Evil: Revelations HD demo was spent looking for hidden items.

Lemme count, I played the game once and rushed through it, then did it a second time and quit halfway through, so my third playthrough (second that goes all the way) involved me getting all Achievements. So I only played it three times. That's much less often than I've played Tales of Symphonia or Tales of the Abyss.

Plus, I'm getting the Asian version (which still hasn't arrived, Play-Asia!! :chinami: ) for the voices overall. And speaking of Collector's Value, I'm not really the type of gamer who cares for that. I am not a fan of game-character figurines or having the Collector's Edition or extra stuff from games. But I am a total Completionist at games, so I will go and try to achieve all Trophies on the PS3 version the first time I play it. So whether that counts as 'die hard fan/gamer' or just somebody who is obsessive-compulsive towards her games, it's up to you.

When my husband was over, I noticed that while playing Rune Factory Oceans - I explained a few things to him - my brain was getting worse and worse with words and terms. So badly that I started a sentence, then forgot what I was aiming for... good thing I generally play alone.

When unwrapping a game case and opening it it up, I would unashamedly sniff the inside (and the manual) for that new game smell.

...On another note, by doing this I found Trauma Center boxes tend to smell like antibacterial hand wash...

Yep, I'm weird.

I can't stand sticky controllers, so I don't eat or drink anything while playing, both by myself and with company. If you want to eat, you don't play until you wash your hands, that's my policy. Water is acceptable, though as long as it isn't forming a lot of condensation on the outside of the cup/bottle.

I always wait for a save point or the end of a chapter to go to the bathroom. I pause only if the previous options are unavailable (or in an emergency, of course). Seems silly, but I feel like if I pause in the middle of the action, leave and come back it tends to ruin the flow of the game for me.

I absolutely refuse to use a guide unless I'm really, really desperate. This means I'll try every option I can think of, including talking to every nearby NPC, finding and killing any stray enemies, and searching every nook and cranny in the level before looking up something online. This has lead to some frustrating situations, but I'm just stubborn like that.

And finally, if a game has subtitles, I have to turn them on. Even if the dialogue is in English, I like to read along to make sure I don't miss something either because of sound effects or bad voice acting.

I'm the same for subtitles, hate missing things and love the clarity. Only sad time is when it spoils punchlines or dramatic effect by revealing the end of sentences too early.

WAHHHH too true. I feel like this happened to me a lot with the Kingdom Hearts games, when you generally aren't allowed to even turn the subtitles off. :/

I'm strange, I like doing that for non-English settings. Like listening to something in one language, but reading the subtitles in the same language and see differences. Example, reading formal, proper, text-book-like subtitles, but hearing the more informal way of every day speaking.
Kind of shizoid...

But it's also something I love with Undubbed games or just starting to play a game in English and then switching to the imported Japanese version. Knowing what the English version says and hearing the original, I notice subtle difference and am even translating what I'm hearing in my head, in a different way than it was translated.
Usually with different sentence structure or even different meanings... quite fascinating.

- Subtitles. I put subtitles in my head to every word I hear. My life becomes significantly easier if the subtitles are already there xD
- I must sit on the arm of the couch or I get sleepy and bored.
- I talk to the characters.
- I must tap something to the background music. Probably because I'm a musician and subconsciously take apart the music in my head, but still.
- If I'm hungry and I can play with one hand, I play with my left (even though I'm right-handed). Conversely, if I'm thirsty I play with my right.
- I am obsessive-compulsive about keeping my 3DS and DS clean and in perfect condition, but could care less about my DSi... Thus I eat while using my DSi and lend it out freely, but never let anyone touch my 3DS with less-than-perfectly-clean-and-dry hands, especially myself xD

*blink* wow, that's more than I thought...!
So I finally grew a brain and remembered to give myself a signature... Whoopee.
Snackoos IRL. They are delicious and are covered in real chocolate. #so-grateful-I'm-Filipino

Excuse me if I contradict myself. I do that.

Not sure about anyone else, but I MUST have my laptop next to me with a random YouTube video running or my earphones on listening to music while I'm playing or else I stop paying attention to the game after a short time. It seems weird, but I happen to pay more attention and play better when there's some sort of distraction.
