Kirby, Snake, and peach have the best recoveries. Strike peach if they took out the cheap infinite teleport up thing from the first and game melee.

I must know...are there any female characters, stages, of AT's not on the dojo website yet? SPOILERS!

And I doubt "characters" will be needed.

We've gotten the complete list already.

My girlfriend and I have already unlocked all of the characters for the japanese version.

We're obviously going to do everything again from scratch with the US version, but the game is awesome so far!

Just wondering - if you select random stage, does that also include stage builder and melee stages? As I usually play fully random with friends (stages & characters), this would be good to know.

Yeah, custom and the original melee stages are included in a random pick. Today I was playing and ended up on a custom stage when picking randomly.

Okay, before you watch the video, you need to know something:

I am a Luigi Specialist with SSBM, so I was hoping for Luigi to retain his moveset to an extent. This bideo made me very happy for that reason and for his smash ball attack. Luigi can control Gravity (Zero Gravity Fireballs) AND Time (Smash Ball Attack)!

Why is it that people who can control gravity and/or time are usually sidekicks and/or villains? (I'm looking at you, Orihime and Foxy!)

Today's update details little special techniques that escaped mention in the regular manual. Veteran players of Melee will recognize a number of them, such as "Ukemi," a standard recovery move that works against any surface to cancel your momentum from a fall or knockback. Sakurai makes it a point, however, to state that there will be more emphasis on "midair recovery." Hmm.

Adding to the defensive repertoire is the "Perfect Shield," akin to Paper Mario's Action Command defense. Activating one's shield at the right moment will allow you to completely avoid an attack's effect and immediately strike back (this is probably different from an actual dodge or roll, in which you give up this special recovery time for evasion).

The most intriguing part of this update is the addition of diminishing returns. "Stale Moves" is no longer an ignominious bonus at the end of a match, it is now a very real mechanic - repeated use of the same move will do less damage and apply less force. Diminishing returns also applies to reflector specials, as reflectors can now break if put under too much stress.

On the upside, offensive maneuvers get an upgrade of sorts: changing direction mid-dash and grabbing results in a "Pivot Grab" that has a much longer reach than a normal grab, allowing you to quickly snag an unsuspecting pursuer (making this cousin to the dash grab of Melee). In addition, "Glancing Blows" have been added that deal minimal damage to opponents and don't even make them flinch; such is the price you pay for your inaccuracy.

Two other techniques have been described, the "Small Jump" and "Swimming." Performing a hop is as easy as tapping the button (or as Sakurai describes it, releasing the jump button before a character's jumping animation ends). Swimming allows a character to tread and move about in water for a time - as long as their accumulated damage will allow them to, anyways.

And last, but not least, for us couch potatoes who can't bother to get up from our game seats to march to the refrigerator, we now have the option of "Eating While Reclining." Yes, if your character flunked their Ukemi and got knocked to the ground, they can take advantage of nearby food items without having to stand up. Pig!

Except the eating and swimming ones, these were all in Melee. SOme stronger (ukemi) some a lot less strong (stale moves, which only applied to some weird stuff like Sheik's Up B. What the hell.) - and perfect shielding also reflected projectiles in Melee.

TINKER!

I just re-read your Marth post, and you forgot one of the most crucial points!

How to Unlock!

However, I can type that now instead of ranting....... okay, I'll rant after.

Spoiler: Ways to unlock certain characters (Updated)
Ness: Play five matches in Brawl.
Reflect 10 projectiles.
Get Ness to join your party in The Subspace Emissary.

Marth: Play 10 brawls.
Finish Classic mode on any difficulty level.
Get Marth to join your party in The Subspace Emissary.

With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face each character listed in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.

And since I'm too tired, I'll spare you from my rant... for now. :enguard:

It sure is easy to unlock characters this time around! No more 'play *insert very large number here* Vs. matches or play Vs. mode for 50 hours' to unlock character X this time! Which is a relief I tell you.

Personally? I'm unlocking WITHOUT Subspace Emissary.

One of the best things about unlocking characters is the 1 on 1 duels you have with them! And you only get the experience ONCE!

Why ruin it?

Same here! I can't see how you are supposed to get them to join your team anyway, so...

Like I said before, having to play 5 or 10 Vs. matches in order to unlock a character is better than having to play hundreds (or in the case of Mr. G&W - one thousand matches! :beef:).

The Vs. mode is what I'm gonna play first before I muck around with the 1P modes anyway, so in all likelyhood Marth and Ness'll be unlocked pretty quickly.

... I hope Wi-Fi Brawls count... Bah! I start with Classic then. I don't do vs. matches enough to unlock anything. (Nobody to play with me.) :sadshoe:
And I don't want to play wimpy short matches with weak computer characters. That would be cheating for me.

I just got my issue of Nintendo Power! There was a two page review for Brawl! I haven't gotten to read it yet but I did see a nice "10" in the score spot. And AJ got an 8.0. I can't wait to start reading! (But I have to...) :sadshoe:

Sad though...

But I wouldn't trust NP to be honest.

Tip: Never trust a company to give reviews of their biggest games.

Instead, IGN, Gamespot, etc., will probably get the best results.

But still.. AJ got an 8.0?

Probably cuz they brought "it" back...

It presents GS4 spoilers... but enough people should know by now, so I guess tags can be used again (instead of simply "NO POSTING!")

Spoiler: GS4
1-5's "evidence examination".

In many reviews of JFA and T&T, critics were upset that they took it away. However, they didn't REALIZE that 1-5's examination method was made AFTER T&T was completed.

Today's Update is a secret... a secret LEVEL.

Spoiler: A Level!
If you are a fan of Mario Bros., SOME of you may recognize this!

Image

In this stage, apparantly, it's INCREDIBLY hard to get a KO.

Image

See?

Anyways, the classic enemies are even better to kill opponents with though!

Image

But how to you get them? They hurt you normally!

Image

Flip them off over!

Yep! They are taken care of the same way as they were back in the original game: Hitting what's underneath them!

And what happens when they get hit?

Image

Pic speaks for itself.

And so now, we read HOW to unlock this level!

To unlock it, simply complete the 19th event in Event Mode, named... Wario Bros.
