I did hear a rumour it was potentially a female character.

Maybe the team are taking notes from that one guy who hacked a LoZ game so Link was a girl.

The guy did it to show his daughter that there could be strong female role models in video games. Maybe Nintendo is taking that on board my making an androgynous/ambiguous gendered character.

Either way it looks so damn pretty.

So how bout that Midna in Hyrule Warriors?

I... I really don't see why people think that the Wii U Zelda character shown was a girl. It just looks more like an effeminate male. >_>

But Hyrule Warriors looks... Interesting. I have to hold judgement on that, because I've heard that the gameplay in the Dynasty Warriors is rather repetitive...

I don't mind the effeminate design, it just seems a bit..... ULTRA feminine for Zelda standards. Like I said, Skyward Link is pretty adorable. This one just seems to take an extra leaf out of Kadaj's book and make the body form look even more lean. I like the design, it looks cool. I'm still holding judgement on the gender, though. Not that I mind if it's boy or girl.

...Zelda did some good stuff in the background. What about Tomb Raider? She's a kickass strong woman, going into ruins, jumping over spikes and stuff. And from what I've seen and read, she's less sexualized in the recent one. (Except for the many gasping when falling and such - then again, I saw that game had some pretty "epic" death images) Just cause the daughter isn't CONTROLLING a female character, doesn't mean there aren't strong female characters.

You forgot the part where the developpers said in an interview that player should need to protect her and not impersonating/playing her.... and the part where they said that she needed to besexualy aggressed so she could "grow up". It's there, but not quite, Shell or Faith could be better role model in my opinion. I think the main problem is that very few female character are impersonated (and thus the player cannot see her as an extension of himself), and are stuck in the background and (let's admit it) always rely on the actions of the player. In games like Zelda, Link the empty shell is the perfect way to impersonate a character because you can easily think "I did that to beat the boss" rather than "Link did that to beat the boss". As always you will rebutt me, but it's a way of seeing things.

Back to the subject. Man this Zelda game look amazing. I wish I could play it, but I don't intend to buy a WiiU and then I hope it doesn't rely too much on the pad screen so I can watch walkthrough on youtube.
Please don't hit me...

Just dropping in to drop this off. Aonuma is such a loveable troll~ Well now we know that Ponytail is Link, which is nice. Although for all I know, they could still make it turn out that this Link is a girl. Hah! Wouldn't that be hilarious? Not that I care either way.

That's what everyone says every time the WiiU does anything interesting (which is often). Yet folks need to make the final push into buying it.

E3 was definitely a good time for Zelda; between the Open-World Zelda (it looks like a Zelda meets Skyrim game; how can I not be pumped?) and Hyrule Warriors (between the fun of just single-handedly wiping out armies as well as being able to do it as Midna, my favorite Zelda character of all time, there's no way I'm not getting this :phoenix:), it'll be a promising couple of years for us fans :trucy: I'm still hoping though that in a direct (maybe August or September, if we're lucky) that they'll announce Majora's Mask 3DS for a soon-ish release; that would really be the icing on the cake. But I feel like we're also being a bit spoiled as is, so I can't be too selfish :phoenix:
"No one can change the past. The only thing we can do is strive to make up for our mistakes. Why must we make up for our mistakes, you ask? Because in so doing... we can find the way back to our path. And once we've found our path, we can move on from our past mistakes toward a brighter future."- Phoenix Wright

I say be selfish. It's been 14 years, give us our Majora's Mask. They gave us Wind Waker before MM, I think we deserve it! I would love to play a game with, what I consider to have, the best swimming controls in an adventure game, on a current console that's not just a port. It needs to happen!

Secretly I just want to see Goron Link's manboobs in either glorious 3D or HD. C'mon Nintendo!

Yeah, finally, those people who keep labelling Link as "Zelda" can do it without being "wrong". An option to play as a boy or a girl would be neat. As long as the girl doesn't wear ultra pink all over. I don't mind pink, it's a nice color, but I don't see why they'd need to color code the gender.

Really? MM had great swimming controls? I dunno, they felt so awkward to me...

Two new playable characters have been revealed for Hyrule Warriors. To summarize:

First there's Agitha, the bug-collecting girl from Twilight Princess. She attacks using a parasol and can summon swarms of insects to fight on her behalf.

Then there's Lana, the blue haired girl spotted in several screenshots, she's an original character created for the game. She fights using a magical spellbook, creating barriers to block and counter opponents.

Also, it's been revealed that by acquiring a set of items, you can summon down the moon from Majora's Mask which obliterates everything on the battlefield.

Looking it over, it looks like we've gotten at least one Zelda game per year-and-a-half since 2007 or so, not counting remakes or side games like Link's Crossbow Training. My guess would be that Nintendo is probably waiting for a big lull in releases to announce a remake of Majora's Mask, so it doesn't compete with other games in the series. It's pretty much all but confirmed at this point, anyway.

First off, Agitha?! Of all the one-off, sidequest-only characters... Well, stranger things have happened (such as Phoenix in UMVC3).
Second off, we can DROP THE MOON?! Hell, yes! :basil:

Welp if Agatha gets in I'm sorely holding out for a Goron character.

All the same scraping the barrel for combat characters is 80% of the reason I'd buy this game to see what they do.

Also that moon thing was revealed in Nintendo's treehouse stream.

Not sure if it'll be usable all the time, seems a scripted event to me.

Some new trailers went up on Koei-Tecmo's YouTube page:

Link battles (what I assume to be) a Dodongo.

Link using the Fire Rod.

Impa kicking ass with swordsmanship and water attacks.

Gotta say, the game is looking really nice.

There's a new trailer for Zelda. Also, the Japanese website for the game has been updated with screens and info, including Zant as a boss character.

Yes, it does have a story. I don't have time to explain it, so I'll just quote the TV Tropes page as that seems the most accurate summary I can think of:

TV Tropes wrote:
Generations ago, Hyrule almost fell into a state of chaos, when a hero in green saved the day. The hero separated the evil force into 4 separate pieces, with one piece sealed away in the Master Sword, while the 3 other pieces were sent into the depths of the space time continuum somehow in hopes this would prevent any possible return. Ever since then, a sorceress has watched equilibrium of the Triforce through a special crystal. Now, the delicate balance of the Triforce has been disrupted. Cia, the sorceress of this generation, developed feelings for a young knight trainee named Link, but those feelings turned into jealousy when she saw his close relationship with Zelda, the queen of Hyrule. Her jealousy made her succumb to the dark power that she was supposed to watch over, and her spirit was corrupted. Now, Hyrule Kingdom is once again being torn apart by the dark power unleashed by Cia.

No! Urgh, why bring in the terrible villain! Zant was terrible, late game, when his true character was exposed I couldn't take him seriously anymore and I couldn't take him seriously on new playthroughs anymore, either. At least give me the better of the humorous villains with Ghirahim. Yeah he was goofy at times, but he still managed to intimidated from beginning to end of Skyward.

Fixed.

Also I quite like those costumes (well the Zelda one at least) fits better with my image of her being a particularly elegant character which seeing her kitted out in almost a kind of armour doesn't really fit for me. Though I'm not doing to be nickle-an-dimed for the sake of a few costumes.

This trailer is for Lana. It shows off her magically powered barrier-focused style. Looks quite fun to play, though I have the feeling that her anime-inspired 'moe' mannerisms are going to turn a lot of people off. Or maybe they'll make her more popular, hard to tell these days.

Annoying? Maybe. Out of place? Definitely.

I mean I expected new villains but for protagonists I'd hoped they'd stick to existing characters. Still she looks like she could be quite fun to play as and I'm all for padding out the roster a bit.

I'm fine with new characters. After all, each game brings in new characters anyway, why should this game be any different. I think it's shaping up more to be another Zelda game somewhat in the timeline rather than a love letter to the Zelda series like I originally thought.

Urgh I hate those timelines... they add nothing to the game, nothing to the experience. It's like you know it, but does it have any effect on the gameplay or so? No, it doesn't. And the games were never supposed to really have a timeline in them to begin with, why did fans harsh so much about there needing to be one that Nintendo finally just made one up to placate them?

I'm fine with new characters. After all, each game brings in new characters anyway, why should this game be any different. I think it's shaping up more to be another Zelda game somewhat in the timeline rather than a love letter to the Zelda series like I originally thought.

Urgh I hate those timelines... they add nothing to the game, nothing to the experience. It's like you know it, but does it have any effect on the gameplay or so? No, it doesn't. And the games were never supposed to really have a timeline in them to begin with, why did fans harsh so much about there needing to be one that Nintendo finally just made one up to placate them?

C-A

I honestly blame Ocarina of Time for pushing on the idea of the fans needing that travesty of a timeline in the first place. With the game talking about Ganondorf's origins, the creation of Hyrule, the appearance of suddenly having a child and adult timeline, among other things, this game set itself up to be subjected that Zelda needs timelines. It really doesn't help that Wind Waker pretty much solidified this by saying it takes place hundreds of years after OoT.

I honestly hate the timeline as well, and from my understanding, this new game I guess is going to be messing with it or something? I really don't know, nor do I care. I play Zelda for Zelda. It's fun and I like it. I'm not going to fret over the timeline because that's not what I'm playing Zelda for.

On another note, I've been playing Skyward Sword for my first time. Started a few weeks ago. I just finished the Ancient Cistern yesterday. I have to say, it was a really neat idea for a dungeon and the boss was fun. I'm really not a fan of these motion controls too much, but at the same time, I like that every enemy is pretty much designed like a sword puzzle. I'd probably be enjoying this game much more if I wasn't so terrible at using the Wiimote, which I blame is either the bad calibration or I just can't hold my hands at the right precise angles. Still, the game has been better than I thought it would be. Is it the best Zelda ever? Probably not, but it is an enjoyable experience nonetheless.

Also, stupid Fun Fun Island heart piece. Two hours! I'd probably be really hateful here, but I did manage a huge net profit in all my failed attempts so it wasn't a complete waste.
