Wow, That second picture of Zero Suit Samus seems kinda kinky.

Anyway, I'm glad there is some benefit from losing the armor but it wasn't exactly what I expecting. She gets some new moves and increased speed. Sweet! :larry2:

With the addition of ZS Samus as a newcomer makes me wonder, is ZS Samus merely a add-on to Samus or a full-fledged character.

Tonight's update came a bit late, but for good reason; this may be one of the most interesting updates to date.

It seems Smash Bros. has a story. In this world, trophies are brought to life only to fight. But when a fighter breaks the rules and helps another, as Mario did to Kirby, strange stuff starts going down... apparently, it may have something to do with Meta-Knight, and a weird purple creature I think may be exclusive to the game.

I'm guessing the purple guy will be equivalent to the Fighting Wire Frames here. It could also make for a Story mode.

I'm not sure if this has any merit to it, but some are claiming to see the shapes of characters' heads in the clouds in most of the pictures with sky shots. The most obvious is the picture with the Halberd in it, which has Bowser's head just to the right of it.

It may just be a coincidence, but it's still kind of odd. I think it may just be fan over-analyzation, for the most part.

I gave a big WTF when I first saw the annoucement, if Sakurai ever wanted to tease fans and make them crazy, he did a great job with todays update.

I think it's fam over-analyzation, yes. If you stare long enough at those clouds you can see anything :yuusaku:

Now that's some ominous shit, right there.

Yeah, I'd like a proper story mode. Hopefully Sakurai will pull it off perfectly, and we won't get stuck with a pretty default Adventure mode.

I also agree with the over analyzation, if we were meant to see things in the clouds, they would be far more obvious then what we are getting now.

Gah, I hope we don't have a 'full' story mode. They were made to be skipped. I mean, can you imagine going though those cut scenes though every play through?

Press Start to Skip.

Usually works well.

Honestly the concept of a story mode is pretty sweet, it gives some life to the single player mode which has always been really short in SSB series.

Mr. Sakurai already said sometime last year that the main single player mode won't be something that you can just turn on and beat in an hour. But wooooOOOoooh! Shit is lookin' COOL!

Here's a piece of interesting news floating around, though again, I'm not sure if it's completely trustworthy.

Apparently a spanish gaming magazing named "Ventendo" recently did an interview with Sakurai, where they asked him about Sonic the Hedgehog being in the game. From what I understand, Sonic is programmed into the game, but Sega has yet to send final approval of his inclusion. They have until the 26th of this month to do so, and on that day (this thursday) the Brawl website will state whether he's in or not.

Now I don't know how reliable this information is, so we'll just have to wait and see, though I thought it was worth posting, at least.

I think that is bull, Sonic and Mario are already together in the Olympic games AND Sonic has started in two different fighting games, I call BS on that rumor.

Again, I don't know how trustworthy this rumor is, so there's nothing to really get hyped about yet.

EDIT: someone on GameFAQs had a source; http://nesonline.blogspot.com. I'm still not trusting this rumor, but I'll keep an eye out for further developments.

I'm going to check something, hold on a moment.

Edit: Club Nintendo IS a spanish gaming magazine, but not Club Ventendo that the rumor talks about, maybe the website is a bit sketchy (much of that source has typos) but I'm going to check one more thing.

http://www.clubnintendomx.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=34&sid=b7c17779a791ad04113891d11a2b9fd7

This is the spanish message board of Super Smash Bros Brawl on Club Nintendo, I'm not fluent in Spanish but I'm not seeing much in terms of topics about this interview and Sonic being in the game.

Edit Again: I just read the last 5 pages of the "Sonic in Brawl" topic that started back in December of 06 and over the last two weeks no one on the Club Nintendo website has brought up the magazine or any interview or next thursday. Bogus.

My inner geek has taken ahold folks. As of today, we've got 95 more updates until December 3rd.

Now, how is that going to be filled? We already know they have a setup for Profiling a character, Final Smash, and his/her 2 Special Move updates.

So who do they have to cover?

  1. Mario
  2. Link
  3. Kirby
  4. Fox
  5. Samus
  6. Zelda
  7. Bowser
  8. DK
  9. Pit
  10. Wario
  11. Zero Suit Samus
  12. Snake
  13. Sonic/3rd Party Bonus
  14. MetaKnight
  15. Yoshi
  16. Falcon
  17. ???

Yes, I threw ??? in there, I'm quite sure we're going to have at least 17 characters profiled. ??? Could be the 3rd 3rd Party Character, Could be Sheik, could be Ness/Lucas, could even be a surprise character. Regardless there are too many reasonable possibilities.

But anyways, with 4 updates per character, that gives us 68 total updates. Fortunately we've gotten through 20 of them. So we're left with 48 more character updates. Which means that from here out about half the updates should be character based.

(The following post is a theory I have already posted in another forum)

[...]
These (ro)bots may are Hand's (or he is also a minion of a greater beeing) minions which control the game...(remember the SSB(N64) intro?) Why must I say now MATRIX and Mr. Smith?

So Mario did the "forbidden" - because he helped Kirby AFTER he was beaten which isn't allowed in the ssb world, because all "losers" are doomed in the figure zone.
[...]

So Orca almost thought the same as I... but he thought of MK's "new" world order (please play Revenge of MK when you have no idea) which could be also an important point.

I don't get why everyone thinks Mario helping Kirby is against the rules. If all the trophies just let each other "die" then who would they fight? Besides, it's only good sportsmanship if you help up your opponent after a sound defeat, in the hopes of a rematch. Perhaps bringing back your fellow trophy fighter is like shaking hands.

The rules are broken when unscrupulous fighters decide to keep their opponents as, quite literally, trophies, denying them their reason for existence and essentially "killing off" the world's inhabitants by hoarding victories. The dire consequence, of course, is an outside force that decides to take advantage of this depletion of defenders, and it sends its dark minions to invade.

But that's just my theory, I could be wrong.

They were going to replace Ness with Lucas in SSBM, but for w/e reason they kept Ness in there, so after having Ness in both SSB games there is really no reason for them to replace him with Lucas now, that will just lead to alot of happy mother fans, but even more pissed off SSB fans <.<

I think it would be a good idea to include Lucas somehow, as having a new character gives them license to change up the formula a bit (PK FIRE gets kind of annoying, ya dig).

But from a PR standpoint, it's a sticky situation. Mother 3 still hasn't seen an American release...

I'd love to see Ness in SSBB but if they put in Lucas then it would be like a clone-type character.

Maybe they should put in Jeff, Poo, or Duster or something like that for the Mother fans.

For extra characters and stages, it would have to be downloadable expansion packs. That's one way to include so many.

So today we have a new stage, Rumble Falls, based primarily on Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. It's a scrollong stage, though it only seems to go up... way up.

The screenshots reveal two key points; first, you can now climb objects like ladders and vines. Second, the stage appears to have triggers of some sort on a few of the platforms.
